Years ago gamers got tons of maps/missions for free.

Would you please point me towards these mythical tons of free stuff? Seriously, point me towards these tons of free (developer-, not fan-made) missions/maps/items - because... I don't really remember tons of free stuff for my older games - like MoO2, SimCity 2000, Civilisation II (and later), Baldur's Gate (1 & 2), Planescape: Torment, Command & Conquer 1 & 2, Age of Empires 1 & 2... please, find me free stuff.

Oh please, cut your smug reaction.

First off, the Unreal games got you tons of free maps from the developers.
New maps for FarCry, Quake, Soldier of Fortune and different other FPS games would be released with the designated patches. Free, and from the developers themselves.

The RTS games you so happily mention didn't have those since most of the time a map editor was included.
RTS maps are a whole other experience than FPS maps obviously.

Seriously? Comparing a new squad mate who's integreted into the game to a simple Multiplayer map?

I think you meant;
Seriously? Comparing a lazy $7 squad mate to free new Multiplayer 20+ map packs?

If I simply said 'Capitalism' would the argument about 'Premium DLC's be over?

Because as long as they can convince people to purchase them they have more than enough right to do so;

Arguing that the Kasumi DLC is something you're entitled to for having bought the game is wrong. We got a complete story from the game, and as far as I know she doesn't alter the fundamental story arc of the game, she's just a fun new character and mission pack to play in (Correct me if I'm wrong).

Would you cry bloody murder if they had advertised the game as 'Shepard's Dirty Baker's-Dozen' and never released a thirteenth character? lol of course not, figures of speech needn't be literal.

The whole DLC **** comes from the Xbox360 console and they put that crap on pc too, in the past every content whas free and now you need to pay for it. <_<

I will be paying for the Kasumi DLC, the only reasons I haven't already is because I didn't realise that not all DLC was available through the Cerberus Network, which is annoying because I paid for a Collectors Edition to get all the DLC included, not to get a shiny case. However that is my own fault for misinterpreting the description of the CN ticket.

"Cerberus Network Membership Card - Once enrolled you will have access to exclusive in-game content and updates via an in-game feed."

Sadly, my eyes must of skipped right over the word EXCLUSIVE in there in my excitement over finding out I could already pre-order my copy of the game at such an early date. The other reason I haven't bought it yet is that I'm in my third year at university and thus I'm studying full time for my MEng degree and so I don't have enough money to go "meh, it's just a tenner."

Also for the people who argue that no quality DLC has ever been free, erm, Counter Strike, one of the most successful and popular multiplayer games of all time was released as free content with Half-Life, the Last Stand in Dawn of War II was released as part of a patch and Team Fortress was originally a mod as well. Yes, two of those are now sold as retail games, but that was only because they were so successful the developers realised they could make money out of them.

Well for a lot of us, we didn't know it was crap until after we got it.

Not that i'm saying the Kasumi DLC was crap, far from it. Just painfully short for $7. I learned my lesson and will wait and see for all ME2's future DLC because 30-45 minutes of gameplay for $7 isn't a very good value.

Well lesson learnt then. I too have felt the sting of DLCs that didnt live quite up to my expectations. Hell forget DLCs i got games which if i knew what it was like i would never have bought in the first place.

Though i dont think Kasumi falls short. I think its excellent and worth the price; not just for the gameplay but the extra character i can take everywhere + guns etc.. But meh, we got our own opinions.

I'll be damned if I pay for this extra DLC. The whole point of the cerberus network was to offer a reasonable way to make players pay for DLC if they got the game used, instead of squeezing every penny out of the customer whenever a new DLC comes out. This game is great but I hate the fact that pirates get all this free and we're paying for DLC not on the... DLC CERBERUS NETWORK that is supposed to equalize the playing feild. Close but no cigar EA/Bioware. More EA than Bioware these days it seems...

Yeah you got free dlc btw, bioware said the network gives free dlc, they never said it would give you all dlc free, your fault if you expected more.
