So my main team right now is Miranda and Kasumi and I was just wondering which of the two SMG's is better for them to use.

since they never even use the entire clip, the only advantage the tempest has over the locust is forfeit, so you should give them the locust.

I think the Tempest, they don't have problem with accuracy

Its impossible to determine whether the locust is an upgrade over the tempest until we see some hard DPS numbers. The locust may very well have different modifiers compared to the other SMGs.

Knowing for certain which gun is better for your squad might prove difficult since the AI is such a big factor it's hard to test DPS when it comes to your squad.

My guess would be the Tempest might have a slight advantage since your squadmates are already very accurate with it and since they tend to use weapons with higher ammo reserves and higher rates of fire more frequently.

It's possible the Locust might be a little better; but since your allies are already freakishly accurate with the Tempest I'd guess that neither gun would be substantially more deadly in their hands than the other. That being the case I'd say its largely an aesthetic choice.

As you cannot acquire the Tempest early in the game the Locust will win without question for quite a while. Once you finally acquire the Tempest then it is a matter of DPS, which has not been confirmed yet. One thing that might matter is the effective range, so if the Locust can deal damage at medium range then it will win strictly for the ease of use. Either paired with the Hand Cannon (no ammo issues) should be fine though.

I think squadmates have the same stupidly freakish godlike accuracy that the enemies all have. Pretty sure I've seen them use the Tempest against enemies on the other side of the room on full auto and not miss a shot.

Things seem to go down quicker with the Locust. I don't have to shoot every single mook anymore since the squad can take down a few by themselves at range now.

For the Locust Mass Effect Wikia is reporting:

Base Damage: 25

Base DPS: 136

20/260 Clip

Also from ME Wikia The Tempest is at:

Base Damage: 14

Base DPS: 148

50/450 Clip

The Locust has no vertical recoil and is more accurate at longer ranges than the Tempest. Of course this is for Shep. Squad mates automatically adjust for the vertical recoil so the theory that Tempest will give them a higher rate of fire makes sense for me to give them the Tempest.

Your allies do not empty the entire clip/magazine at once though so the Locust may be superior despite having a smaller capacity.

True; but the squad AI seems to fire weapons with larger clips and magazines more frequently.

The deciding factor would seem to be whether the Locust's accuracy improves your allies effective range with their SMG.   Your allies compensate for recoil remarkably well; but they (and the player for that matter) can't compensate for a weapon's bullet spread.   For example Grunt is more effective with the Eviscerator shotgun than he is with the Claymore since the Claymore's more extreme bullet spread greatly limits its range.

The best way to test this would be to set an ally with a Tempest and an ally with a Locust next to eachother behind the same piece of cover and wait for some distant enemies to move into attack range.   If the Locust using squad member starts firing first then it would mean allies have better range with it; which would make it the better choice.  Alternatively if they start firing at about the same time then the Tempest's slight edge in DPS would make it the better choice.

If you're doing this experiment you might also observe which ally is firing more frequently as that would also factor in to your allies effectiveness.   I'll give it a try later tonight.

on a hunch, i'd go with the locust. the DLC sniper is better, so i'm just guessing that the DLC SMG will be better.

i like the tempest cause it seems like my squad is a little more aggresive in putting rounds downrange using that. that helps keep enemies suppressed especially w/ inc rounds.

all in all, less damage but more volume. quantity over quality for squaddies. on shep i definitely prefer the locust

I haven't gotten picked up the Tempest yet on my current play through so I can't do a definitive test; but it feels like my squad is a tad less effective with the Locust than they are with the Tempest, although they're definitely more effective than they are with the Shuriken.
