I'm still debating now on what to go for...  Something nifty like one of those PC parts and shirt combos and say, give the shirt to my friend...  Or try and win one of the prize packs...

Mak, unless I win 4 challenges AND make sure to meet my token cap over the next three days AND they still have a computer around then, I have a snowballs chance in hell winning one. XD

Your tax rate will be determined by the amount of income you have.  Your tax rate should be 10% if you're a dependent and the only income you're concerned about having is from the winnings of this contest.

I know that here, the lotteries tend to pay the lottery tax for you, it's accounted for in the prize, essentially making you not having to worry about it.

So yeah. Sucks to be you.

No, if you have to pay taxes on any of the prizes you win then you'll have to be the one to pay the taxes.

In the U.S. you are responsible for your own tax liability.  No one may pay your taxes for you.

Don't forget, you also have to sign an Affidavit of Eligibility and Liability/Publicity Release. Which says that you will pay the taxes on the prize.

From what I read in the rules that only applies to prizes that are worth over $600.

that sucks that you gotta pay taxes on something we're suppose to be getting for free....but heck all the game shows do it.

true, but it's only a small part of the prizes bioware's auctioning that will count towards taxes. if you win a poster pack, books, the jade empire packs you'll fall under the tax threshold. i think even the graphics card packs fall under the limit. it's mainly computers. and if you were going to get $1000 as a refund it just means your refund is smaller. it's not a huge deal for the most part. laws like this are in effect to avoid abuse of gift giving. people wanting to avoid taxes would just call everything under the sun a gift.

Taxes are hardly a concern. Win a 2k item and have to pay 80 or so dollars in taxes? Cheap.
