Wonder why they didn't make the new classes retro-active into Origins?

You must realize that NWN was based on D&D tabletop rules, which were already designed that way. Dragon Age on the other hand was built in-house from scratch.

So...?

No. If they had wanted to put those
abilities into Origins, they would have done so; since they didn't, it's
evident that they wanted them to only be available in Awakening.

And that's the problem.

These 2 circular non-responses feel like this:

-- BW used to make expansions backwards compatible
-- They made a new rule set for Dragon Age
-- This new rule set apparently doesn't allow for expansions to be backwards compatible
-- Many complain; we do want expansions to be backwards compatible

-- Defenders "answer" is:  "Yeah, but they didn't make it that way!"

No $h!t !!!

Edit:  BTW, that 'rule set' explanation sounds bogus too.  Can't be logical.  Tweak some numbers.  "Problem" fixed.

I don't think anyone has said that the ruleset doesn't allow for it; all we've said is that Bioware didn't want to make the new abilities and level 20+ specializations available in Origins.

It's a problem because people expected Bioware to do things the way they have in the past, not because the abilities are specifically overpowered for Origins.

I do think it would help the replay value of Origins were it (properly and intelligently) backwards compatible...

I beat Origins 6 times in Nov... got burnt out, came back recently with Awakenings.

Started new characters... I'm now on my 2nd full play-through (Origins > Awakenings) and after this, I seriously don't know I have it in me to play another time.

HOWEVER, if I could, say for example, play a Keeper in the OC...  that would be appealing to me.

I suppose I could try a mod, but it would also need to lower the requirements of the expansion classes too.  Even though I usually hit lvl 23/24, that still isn't enough time to apply the classes in the OC.
