 Ranger animals are powerful, but the problem is their tactics reset each time you summon them. Not only that, but if you don't click the little "1 more Tactics slot available" Popup, you aren't able to reach their tactics menu. Not only that, but it seems impossible to see what abilities they actually have unless editing tactics, so you can't put them on the action bar. Is this how it's supposed to be, or am I missing something here?

Agreed. This needs to be fixed. On the PC version you can ONLY activate talents from the quick bar or the talent tree window. The quick bar is locked and only has one of the abilities, and the talent window is completely inaccessible. Plus the tactics window issue -- only accessible from the popup. Yes, this sucks, and should be addressed in a patch!

Heh. Indeed. Or general discussion. It could be working as intended for all we know. Though I kind of doubt it.

We know. That's not the issue. And your second point is only half right. You can't see all of their talents, because not all of them are populated onto the quick bar.

It only shows one power per animal. Only Howl for Wolf, Maul or whatever it's called for Bear, etc. They have 2-4 abilities in truth.
