Bioware advertised it (DA) as a different genre entirely, which almost drove me away.

If someone let's their total buying experience be dictated by a 30 second TV ad, they deserve to be "fooled".

As far as myself, I seen an ad for "DA:O", went online and about 5 minutes later I knew exactly what type of game it was because I had seen it in action. This isn't 1982. We can do our own research now.

Which is what i did. And was delighted to find the familiar Bioware experience.

You don't advertise a Honda Civic as a Pickup Truck then yell at the consumer because they were expecting to get a Pickup Truck because "They didn't do their research"

And thank you again for breaking your own arguement.

You don't buy a new car thinking it would be exactly the same as the version of it 1-2 years ago. It may have the same logo on it, but like cars, video games change. And like a car, a customer should research it before buying it. Its not rocket science, really. Any educated person would look over the tons of material available on the game before buying it. Those people who thinking they were "wronged" only have themselves to blame.

I completely agree that everyone had the ability to do research and shouldnt complain about advertisement, but check this out.

It would be pretty brilliant if the game was actually like these ads =D

I agree that would be cool. However.....and I don't mean to be offensive to anybody.....but who the hell saw that video and thought "this is what the game will be like!". Seriously? I seen all the CGI videos as fluff to hype it up. How the hell are they supposed to market it? Show the stat screens and turn based combat? People are drawn to excitement and spectacle. That's why the "ME2" launch trailer showed shooting and explosions and wasn't 2+ minutes of dialogue wheel choices.

And obviously all this confusion could be easily side stepped with literally 5 minutes of research.

From a business quality perspective the DA ads are stupid and should not be tolerated. That is where I am coming from. With background in Marketing I know that if I pulled any **** like that with a product I would get fired and the company I would be working for would get fined.

This exactly.  You don't advertise a Honda Civic as a Pickup Truck then yell at the consumer because they were expecting to get a Pickup Truck because "They didn't do their research"

This Exactly

You guys are the reason there are labels on hot coffee that say "Hot Coffee!  It might burn you because it is hot!"

Did i say whether or not people should research a product? No. Did i say whether or not people should be held responsible for their purchase? No. I did not make a statement or express an opinion either way!

All i did was state a simple fact: The Dragon Age ads were badly misleading.

Grow up moron.

That has nothing to do with the Ads though.  The ads should not exist in their current form, their intent is to mislead people.  Plain and simple.  Generate hype for a product that does not look as good as current games because in Advertising graphics are most important.

With Uncharted 2 coming out DA needed an edge, and in advertising they created a misleading CG counterpart as a form of competitive edge, which is false and misleading.

No offense guys but I have a hard time buying the argument about DA CG trailers. Every game makes CG trailers and commercials. ODST wasn't half as cool as their real life trailer. No game is as cool as its trailer. And trailers do not count as doing research, they are marketing tools to generate interest.

if you want to do even the most finite of research you absolutely have to watch and view In-Game content. this means waiting until the pre-launch gamesites start showing their vids or until after the game launches and youtube has footage. But saying a CG trailer is misleading is pretty naive imo. Trailers are designed to generate hype and interest, not to be sources of information.

Yes I am not defending the OP, I am attacking stupid business practices. You can do both I do not see why attacking the OP and defending stupid business practice goes hand in hand. The OP was flat out wrong in his assessment in an almost embarrassing way. But that is not what I am talking about in reference to the DA ads.
