I have. I've completed Insanity with a CQC Shotgun Infiltrator and I have to say that it just isn't a strong choice. You are much better off taking the Widow over the Assault Rifles too especially with the Locust being as accurate as it is. The addition of the flashbang does seem like it might make shotgun more viable but I still think the Widow is the best option.

Give the Engineer a shot. Pretty fun and versatile. Or you can go with the standard Soldier/Infiltrator.

I have an Infiltrator with shotguns and it works great. Just have to learn to recognise there are situations where it's better to hang back, and others where it's better to push forward. Don't push all the time, it'll probably just get you killed.
With shotgun training and the new Locust, you're more like a Soldier with more interesting powers. With the Viper, Locust and shotgun of your choice, you have the tools for every situation, and it's just a matter of knowing when its best to use each.

Squad Cryo would be really useful for a CQC Infiltrator, I imagine.

Squad Cryo is every CQC class's friend.

Naah... I'm not the best sniper in games but did pretty well on my own infiltrator with the widow. You should be fine.

Eh, moving targets are a little annoying, though.
Hence, I sometimes use squadmate biotics to keep 'em steady (yes, that means using pull or throw on people with defenses). They stagger for a bit, I cap 'em in the head.

Headshot the heavy mech! Headshot it until it's dead!
I usually reserve the widow for taking out the more powerful enemies. The ringleaders. The Krogan. Baby Reapers.
But if I know I'll have access to a lot of thermal clips in the area, no one is safe from the Widow.
As for lining up a shot when you're not the best sniper, that's where the Tactical Cloak can come in handy. Gives you a few extra seconds. Unfortunately, it will do crap all for you sometimes BECAUSE OF THE AUTO AIM THAT I CAN'T TURN OFF.
Not bitter.

CQC infiltrating is fun as hell on normal. too risky on harder difficulties.

Kasumi DLC does a lot of good for this kind of build, from what I've played so far. The Locust of course is a wonderful addition to your longer ranged firepower, greatly reducing reliance on the Viper. This extends the Viper's ammo so that there is always ammo available for rapid-fire on key targets.
Kasumi herself also makes a great teammate for a CQC Infiltrator with her instant flashbang to stagger and disable targets, making it easier to get into position or make the kills. Her Shadow Strike is also awesome for close range double cloaked takedowns. Taking a position with 3 enemies is a whole lot easier with Kasumi taking one of them. Try to time it so you make your shot just as Kasumi uncloaks and gets everyone's attention. Not sure Flashbang is the right power for the Infiltrator themself though, being harder to aim and time correctly and interfering with the use of cloak, as well as needing many points to really shine.
The only problem I've found so far is that Cryo sometimes inteferes with her Shadow Strike. Not really a good enough reason for me to stop taking it though.

the locust is probably the most game-changing gun in ME2. i'm eager to use it on ALL of my subsequent playthroughs.
