Marriage comes from the Latin "maritatre" and even etimologicaly, it means the legal union of a man and a woman to procreate. The non-procreational part is called "connubium".
I do understand that to call "marriage" to a unions between people of the same sex is not nice to them but that is basicaly irrelevant; since the law is not made for Christians (or for whatever confession you prefeer); law and rights are given to citizens irreegardless of their orientation. If they don´t like it; fine, but think for a second how unfair would it be to deny Christians the right to vote because... they are Christians.
Well, I obviously agree 100% with you. I've stated as much already. Just providing the opposing view for information's sake.
I don't think you can "own" a word. But that's what the disagreement has devolved into...at least in California anyway. And the whole propaganda about teaching gay marriage in schools. That really tricked people....
