Marriage comes from the Latin "maritatre" and even etimologicaly, it means the legal union of a man and a woman to procreate. The non-procreational part is called "connubium".

I do understand that to call "marriage" to a unions between people of the same sex is not nice to them but that is basicaly irrelevant; since the law is not made for Christians (or for whatever confession you prefeer); law and rights are given to citizens irreegardless of their orientation. If they don´t like it; fine, but think for a second how unfair would it be to deny Christians the right to vote because... they are Christians.

Well, I obviously agree 100% with you. I've stated as much already. Just providing the opposing view for information's sake.

I don't think you can "own" a word. But that's what the disagreement has devolved into...at least in California anyway. And the whole propaganda about teaching gay marriage in schools. That really tricked people....

Christians feel that marriage is a religious institution, not a secular one. It's all a matter of who owns the word "marriage". You probably think this is just stupid semantics....and it sort of is in a way. But imagine someone wanted to call that poop you take when you get home from work a "Bioware". "Dude, I just took a huge Bioware." Depending on who you are and what you feel about Bioware (sorry Bioware really, you just happened to come to mind at the moment), you might have a problem with this designation. Well, that's how the Christians feel about marriage. It's not a secular word to them, it has a religious connotation. Right or wrong, that's how they feel.

That is the problem. They do not think about it. Religion is not big on logic, reason, and thinking for yourself.

Sorry I am not trying to turn this into a "religion hatefest" but for the "big religions" that is true. Marriage as a legal institution has exsisted since before many of the religions that claim it as a "religious" thing.

Sirry ti gi diwn that route. Bottom line tho is no one is forcing any religious place of worship to marry homosexuals. Homosexuals just want the equality others allready have.

The funny thing about marriage is that, in fact, by ethimological definition, is a non-religious institution. It emerged as a right given to Roman citizens. And the religious ceremony attached was not mandatory at all.

Yet, many of them do not have a problem on schools teaching creationism. Marbellous double standard.

By the way, back on topic for a moment since I haven't actually commented on the story...

I've actually been following the story for weeks. The school is obviously pathetic. She's taking it like a champ too. Major integrity in that girl. I hope karma buts them in the butt.
