I have just purchased the Katsumi DLC and installed... I think...

First off I get an error message:

Communication with the Mass Effect 2 server was interupted or timed out. Please try again .

Has an OK bar to click so i click.
Next a new window pops up and I get :

Unable to authorize the listed DLC. Please log into the Cerberus network with the account used to purchase DLC Katsumi.

What have I done wrong?
This has happened also when I redemed the Dr Pepper visor code. I just got fed up with that and never got that fixed.

I also have Dragon Age Origins. Could this be conflicting?

The Firewalker DLC seemed to work but I do not remember as all I did was download that but did not play that yet.

You should read other threads in this section before posting really posting about the same problem they have, anyway, heres how to fix this.

This issue is caused by false lines written in the hosts file.

In order to fix this, you need to delete some lines in the hosts file. Heres a step by step guide.

1. Go to Start Menu and open up Computer, once there, open up your hard drive. which currently has windows installed on it. (For most people, that will be C:)

2. If Windows was installed on the hard drive you selected, you will see a folder named Windows, open that up.

3. Now look for the System32 folder, open that up. Now look for the drivers folder and open that. Then at last, the etc folder. The directory should now be something like C:Windows/System32/drivers/etc

4. Inside you will see the hosts file. Open up Notepad which is located in accesories (right click and select Run as Administator if on Vista or Win7)

5. Go to File on Notebook and select Open, now go to the same place shown at No.3. Make sure you have Notepad set to look for all files, you can change this by clicking on the arrow next to Text Documents (*.txt) in the bottom right corner and making that All.

6. Once in that Directory, now you can open up the hosts file with Notepad, once you have done this you now need to delete every line in that file which has the word EA in it and also starts with 127.

7. Save the file and then quit notepad and everything else that I have told you to open in this guide.

You should now be able to use Cerberus.

Happy gaming!

Deleted 1 line and saved. Restarted and did not effect anything. I still get the same errors as posted here.

My host file had more than 1 line with EA and the 127 in it so maybe you forgot to delete some lines.

Didn't have any of those entries in my hosts file. Started having the error randomly at about the same time as I registered ME Galaxy on my iPhone though. Not sure if there's a tie-in.

My hosts file itself has every line is just comments.

Mine ended up that I just needed to log back in for some stupid reason though.  Perhaps that could solve someone else's issue?

I'm having the same problem. I don't know why exactly either but I reinstalled this on my new PC because I lost my saves on my old PC. I see the promos in my registered game promotions and I just registered ME2 as well. I remember that I was one of the few that had no problems on launch day but now this is really disheartening as I want to replay it to be ready for ME3. I also have the same problem as Raptor, there are no such lines in my host file. Just comments.

I've tried relogging and resetting my internet connection with no luck whatsoever.

Are you using any form of wireless networking? Have you ensured you have your firewalls configured to allow communications onthe appropriate ports? Have you checked your AV settings to make sure nothing is being reported as a false positive? Are you on a cut-rate ISP who doesnt have the bandwidth to deal with their customer base?

Literally hundreds of reasons why this could be happening.

An actual answer would be nice. Played ME2 couple weeks ago just fine, come back from out of town to get the same error. Same ISP, same system, same everything.

This is not an Official Support site. This is Gamer to Gamer Self-Help, and we can't know any more about the server problems than you do.

Official Help is on the EA site.
