there will be a big space battle at the end as the heroic alliance defeats and drives back the vile reaper menace using superior numbers and stronger tactics.

I also think the geth/quarrians will be the ones who will defeat the reapers by building a giant super reaper/Geth ship thing.

The Reapers will be rewritten.

OK, maybe not, but there's no way a purely military victory is in any way plausible. Maybe we'll get an epic space battle - I hope we will - but this will only part of the picture. The Reapers have been doing this for at least 37 million years, they're so far advanced in tech no one has managed to decipher their technology yet - apart from the Protheans, who built a mass portal and who were considerably more advanced than Citadel civilization.

At this point, I can't imagine how it will be done. I can only hope Bioware won't draw a too blatant deux ex machina out of the hat.

Depends on who the head writer is. If it's Mac Walters again, expect a comic-book ending a la uploading a virus to the Reaper mothership or something similar. If Drew K comes back, or already worked out the ending well in advance, then it will be more interesting.

Sadly Mac Walters will remain as ME 3 lead writer because Drew K. is Lead writer for SW ToR MMO and i seriously doubt that Bioware will withdraw him from that project back to ME 3 just because Walters screwed up entire series.

If you ask me, the real genius behind Mass Effect was Chris L'etoile, but he quit Bioware completely. Too bad. From reading his blog I think he clearly has the most keen and interesting insight into what Mass Effect was and what it could have been.

Wonder why he quit.

The only way i can see the game getting resolved in some kind of confrontation is that if there somebody else out there, some ancient enemy to the Reapers, like the Vorlons to the shadows.

There enough clues on the UNC planets - The leviathan of Dis and that planet where some volus millionaire found a being of light meant to fight against the machine devils and soforth.

that would be the absolute worst way to end the series

in all honesty I probably wouldn't buy another Bioware game if their writing fails that horribly

I'm leaning towards the "army" idea.

There will be a couple of binary choices, you can side with the Geth or the Quarians (but they'll force you to choose one or the other), Citadel races or Terminus systems, etc etc.

There might be something like Batarians vs Turians, Alliance vs Cerberus. Rachni vs Krogan (intense rivalry, Krogans refuse to work with them), and so on and so forth.

As far as tech, the Turians have Thanix guns, the Batarians have reverse engineered tech from the Leviathan of Dis and that big array of mirrors (presumably some big space laser weapon), the Geth and Quarians have been doing R&D of their own,

The Reapers will attack at the start, and begin overwhelming systems one at a time. The SR2 with Shepard will have to go around and gather support, as well as launch some daring commando raids to find some superweapon that will help your army in the fight.

50$ says Shepard uploads a virus into the Reaper Mothership/Queen that temporarily disables the shields of all the other Reapers, and then the united fleets launch a simultaneous attack on them all around the galaxy, destroying them.

There are those "deep anomalies" in the gas giant Ploba and the brown dwarf Mnemosyne, Ploba's was mentioned in ME1, and seeing how Klendagon's Great Rift got a greater meaning in ME2, perhaps they play some part in the story.

Only way I see out of this is if all space traveling races works togheter, and that meens there criminals to. That and maybee some harvested edited Reaper technology and plot holes.

Or we could just replicate that mass accelerator weapon that killed the derelict Reaper.

Either that or build a couple of thousand over sized Thanix cannons.

And do what with it? Kill a single Reaper? Impressive.

I would say we should avoid repeating past civilizations' tactics that clearly failed.

Its actually possible to kill the reapers. The key to the reaper's previous eradication and harvesting efforts was their ability to isolate different planets by locking the Mass Relays and controlling communication using the Citadel.

Moreover, the Thanex cannon technology is now pretty widely available. It is possible that with a combined fleet of Citadel races, the geth and Rachni that the sentient races of the galaxy could defeat the Reapers. Not to mention the advanced technology acquired as you destroy or keep the collector base.

I think everyone is overestimating the strength of the reapers. For millennia they have depended on deception, stealth, and divide and conquer tactics to wipe out organics. Destroy the citadel, take control of the mass relays and isolate every star system in the galaxy. Then wipe them out one by one. Even with all those advantages it took the reapers hundreds of years to wipe out the protheans, who were completely unprepared and disorganized by the loss of the citadel. Shepard foiled that plan. Now he just has to prepare all the organics in the galaxy for the Reapers. The Reapers will have to face a prepared and united foe, for the first time in a long time (maybe the first time ever).

In all honesty, I don't think Shepard will be the one to figure it out, only the one to implement the plan.

I think this whole thing will come full circle.

The Prothean's will be the ones to stop the Reaper invasion.

There were 12 left, at the end of the last invasion.
And we know that for some reason, in most stories, 12 is a mystical number, so it is unlikely that number was chosen at random.
12 Olympian gods
12 Lords of Kobol
12 Titans
12 Cylon models
12 apostles
12 lords a leaping...
12 Prothean survivors of the Conduit project

Vigil thought there would be no food or water to great those 12, when they got to the Citadel.
But we know this to be incorrect.
The Citadel is a trap that was built by the Reapers, and has existed since the first extinction.
It has atmosphere, water, and protein vats (Bailey recently informed us of the protein vats run by the keepers), The water is fresh, and is constantly purified (according to the grounds keeper), And we know there to be areas that are inaccessible to anyone, and only barely glimpsed by 'duct rats'. If I were one of the 12 remaining Protheans, I would send a few cryo chambers through the conduit, knowing that the Citadel will never run out of power, and once my business was done, reprogramming the keepers not to respond to the Reapers signal, seeding the universe with life, maybe even making modifications (Ekindlers), and setting a trap, I would go back to sleep and wait.

If you worked with Chorbin, scanning the Keepers (ME1) he sends you an email, stating that he compared some of the wreckage of Sovereign to the scans of the keepers and determined that they are related. Chorbin also tells you there is a signal telling the keepers 'NOW', something is supposed to happen. I think the Keepers are programmed to awaken the 12 sleeping Protheans.

Why have Harbinger and the other reapers not launched an attack?
50,000 years ago the reapers poured from every mass relay, shutting them down, isolating entire star clusters, and seizing control of the Citadel. Thanks to the '12' having reprogrammed the keepers, the reapers have not taken the Citiadel, but why have they not used the other mass relays, as they did before? I do not believe they have full control of the system. The Citadel is the master relay, and without that, the reapers are reduced to gate users, not gate masters.

I think the Protheans set a trap, at the appropriate time, they will open the Citadel relay, and allow the Reapers to begin the invasion, but before they can exit the wormhole, they will convert the gate, from wormhole to Mass Effect singularity, crushing all the reapers within.

Now I don't know exactly why, but my 'gut' tells me that they will need someone to activate the master relay. Maybe the last of the Protheans has reached the limit of what can be done, even with a sleep chamber, to prolong his/their existence, and they need someone other than a keeper to open the relay. I believe it was said that the keepers have evolved, in some way, beyond their basic programming, so while they may still wake the last prothean(s), they might not do it's bidding beyond that. The prothean will need to reach out, using their relays to touch the one mind left in the galaxy capable of responding to their call for assistance, Shepard.

And in order to save the galaxy, Shepard, is going to have to take the Citadel, by force, since no one will believe her when she tells them they need to open the Citadel relay to stop the Reapers, and with her Geth, Rachni, and Krogan allies in tow, the council and the Alliance will think Shepard has turned into Saren and gone rogue (particularly if TIM makes another Shepard to stop her).

Just my extrapolation, on what has gone before, and certainly BIOWARE will probably go another way, but somehow, it would be a fiting end to the story.

well lets not forget the idea that there will be new species of aliens apearing in ME3 just like they did in ME2 but one very possible thing is the return of the Protheans!! possibly, these new species may hold a very high role to defeating the reapers.

well you never know... just becouse we may kill a large amount of the reapers dosent mean thats all of them, im sure there are others out there which may need finishing off if there is a ME4

but lets stick to the topic... if shepard did kill the reapers in ME3 how would he do it??

I suspect in some ways it will be anti-climactic.  Think about this.  Is there a reason why they need to hibernate?  A reason why their original plan was to sneak in through a mass relay in the Citadel?  Perhaps they need some source of energy in order to survive the trip in from dark space?  Space is bigger than I think some people give it credit.  Even at the speed of light, any guess as to how it takes a thing to get into the galaxy from dark space?

I think it might be less about killing all reapers and more about finding ways to foil any plans they have to make it successfully back into the galaxy.  For those that do get within the galaxy, I think something like the weapon that "killed" the derelict reaper will be necessary.

In short, I don't know if the game will be about an all-out war with all those reapers, but only a handful at most, with some kind of new common enemy (indoctrinated by reapers) attempting to pave the way.
