What I hate most about Twitter... that's an easy one. I hate that it exists? :P

But seriously, I've never used Twitter and have no intention of starting now. I tried to explain why before a forum glitch ate my paragraph. Suffice it to say it isn't my style.

If you are looking for sexy pictures of teenage girls in love with themselves, it's great.

I did, until I saw Conan suddenly make someone a celebrity with it

Woah, tell me more about this.  The bazaar is the only reason I have a twitter account, but this might make another.

I just don't really see the point of twitter. Just seems like facebook, livejournals, etc just get things across better.

Oh well, bioware got me using it for a little while.

I don't use twitter, so no possibility of +500 tokens for me. I never got used to the idea of just tweeting thoughts out.

Twitter is emblematic of so much that is wrong in pop culture.

It's about the worst of Social Networking - it glorifies the impersonal with followers quantity mattering; it celebrates the superfluous with its character limit, tags, and all the enhancing of everything wrong with cell phone texting; it promotes reporting the inane as important, with many just "tweeting" what they just ate or whatever STUPID, WORTHLESS, MINUSCULE thought crosses their ADD rattled brains.

Chatting via text over networks is not a bad thing, it's a great thing. Chat rooms and email are good, useful things for the most part (like everything, they can be abused, sure.) But IM and texting and now Twitter just take things to their most superficial and time-wasting ends.

This may sound hypocritical coming from a guy posting on a social network, but I honestly believe there is a world of difference between joining a site that is about something (like BSN is about BioWare and it's games) as opposed to joining a social network site that's whole existence is to solely be a social network site with limitless members bond together only by ads, marketing and lack of privacy.

I don't like that it's basically facebook without the hassle of getting in touch with people you haven't talked to in years.

I can't think of a single person/organization that I actually care enough about that I really want to hear the minutia of their everyday lives. I made an account for this contest...and once it's over, I'll be deleting it.

I think it rather pointless and small-minded to hate a communication medium.

Didn't you mention not being fond of phone communication in a status update way back when? :P I think this is all hyperbole anyway. I doubt most of the folks in this thread *hate* Twitter with seething all consuming rage. That's how I interpret true hatred anyway. Stating that I disliked Twitter would have been more appropriate but that wasn't as fun at the time. ~Shrug~

Hate is perhaps a charged and overwrought word -
but disliking what something is culturally and what is represents, I personally believe, is probably the most productive of disliking possibilities.

That was a tortured sentence.

The publishing world and the news media (print and tv) "dislike" the internet, and they have good reason to.
The music industry for a long, long time "disliked" the MP3 format.  They and the rest of the entertainment industry "dislike" the P2P and torrent networks.

Twitter is more than a communication medium, Maria Caliban.  It does nothing that other vehicles don't do (and do better) - but too many people who use it do so in ways that are detrimental to themselves and to society as a whole (IMO) -

for every Iranian green revolution, there's a hundred other things like Miley Cyrus shower pictures and lost productivity at businesses and cyber-stalking and an endless list of bads.

If absolutely nothing else, the prevalences of things like Facebook and Twitter make it REALLY hard to argue in favor of privacy rights for American citizens - a solid case could be made that significant portions of society have no problems with anyone knowing anything about them.

Twitter is a communication tool. And like all tools, it is what you use it for.

Woah, I can totally relate to that chick.  Who doesn't spend an hour putting on makeup to lie on a makeshift bed in front of a poorly painted wall?  Now I see what twitter is all about!

The fact that it's millions of losers who are posting (I refuse to use "tweet" as a verb) worthless crap that no one cares about.  The only thing worse is the celebrities who each are seen as a modern day Gandhi.

I actually opened my first Twitter account for the Bazaar challenges and haven't won yet, so it was probably just a futile effort.

Please click, it's my only hope.   http://social.bioware.com/brc/1005891

Perhaps. I personally don't widely share the information available via Facebook, which I primarily use to keep in touch with family and friends who live 2000+ miles away. I'm definitely not interested in gettin ga bunch of anonymous 'strangers' to follow my day to day discussions and such. Facebook also allows me to share the latest pictures of my kids with grandparents (the aforementioned distant family), and let them pick which ones they would like hard copies of. It also allows me to play computer games with friends (yes, indeed, I'm one of those 'mindless drooling Zynga game players') without the hassle of having to arrange for a huge block of time at regular intervals.

Facebook can be poorly used, but I've found practical uses for it. I'm still scratching my head over Twitter, though. I just don't see how you can have back and forth conversations with it with two people, let alone with three or more.
