But seriously, I've never used Twitter and have no intention of starting now. I tried to explain why before a forum glitch ate my paragraph. Suffice it to say it isn't my style.

Woah, tell me more about this. The bazaar is the only reason I have a twitter account, but this might make another.

It's about the worst of Social Networking - it glorifies the impersonal with followers quantity mattering; it celebrates the superfluous with its character limit, tags, and all the enhancing of everything wrong with cell phone texting; it promotes reporting the inane as important, with many just "tweeting" what they just ate or whatever STUPID, WORTHLESS, MINUSCULE thought crosses their ADD rattled brains.
Chatting via text over networks is not a bad thing, it's a great thing. Chat rooms and email are good, useful things for the most part (like everything, they can be abused, sure.) But IM and texting and now Twitter just take things to their most superficial and time-wasting ends.
This may sound hypocritical coming from a guy posting on a social network, but I honestly believe there is a world of difference between joining a site that is about something (like BSN is about BioWare and it's games) as opposed to joining a social network site that's whole existence is to solely be a social network site with limitless members bond together only by ads, marketing and lack of privacy.

I can't think of a single person/organization that I actually care enough about that I really want to hear the minutia of their everyday lives. I made an account for this contest...and once it's over, I'll be deleting it.

Hate is perhaps a charged and overwrought word -
but disliking what something is culturally and what is represents, I personally believe, is probably the most productive of disliking possibilities.
That was a tortured sentence.
The publishing world and the news media (print and tv) "dislike" the internet, and they have good reason to.
The music industry for a long, long time "disliked" the MP3 format. They and the rest of the entertainment industry "dislike" the P2P and torrent networks.
Twitter is more than a communication medium, Maria Caliban. It does nothing that other vehicles don't do (and do better) - but too many people who use it do so in ways that are detrimental to themselves and to society as a whole (IMO) -
for every Iranian green revolution, there's a hundred other things like Miley Cyrus shower pictures and lost productivity at businesses and cyber-stalking and an endless list of bads.
If absolutely nothing else, the prevalences of things like Facebook and Twitter make it REALLY hard to argue in favor of privacy rights for American citizens - a solid case could be made that significant portions of society have no problems with anyone knowing anything about them.

Woah, I can totally relate to that chick. Who doesn't spend an hour putting on makeup to lie on a makeshift bed in front of a poorly painted wall? Now I see what twitter is all about!

I actually opened my first Twitter account for the Bazaar challenges and haven't won yet, so it was probably just a futile effort.

Facebook can be poorly used, but I've found practical uses for it. I'm still scratching my head over Twitter, though. I just don't see how you can have back and forth conversations with it with two people, let alone with three or more.
