Speaking about dragons, How to Train Your Dragon was a much better movie than Avatar. Hell, it was freaking awesome.

More entertaining, better developed characters, not heavy handed and preachy, funny, great visuals, much more effective emotionally, cool lore with a unique take on dragons, and it doesn't drag on needlessly trying to showcase all those fancy graphics.

Welcome to the world of overhype. Set your standards lower and you wont be dissapointed.

As for avatar, it was a bliss for the eye but the story was just a rehash of dance with the wolves and everyone know it but all i can say is PPL LOVED IT ANYWAY. Seriously, ppl dont care if you use the same thing over and over as long as it has new colors they are fine with it. Best exemple are MMO where its nothing but grind after grind and fighting slightly different boss for slightly better item so you can fight slightly different boss but stronger boss and so on. Eccck anyway enough with this, i already spent enough time arguing this topic on the movie forum that i frequent.

dude watch the trailer. Nothing in it told you anything about the plot. You watched it because of the awesome CGI trailer, now your complaining about a storyline and plot?

this is an eye candy, popcorn, action flick. WHO THE FU<.<CK cares about plot.

Its like playing modern warefare 2 and expecting to meet a hot girl online. ITS NOT WHAT YOU CAME FOR

Wasn't disappointed with Avatar, as I KNEW what it was about, and enjoyed it for what it was. I drew the parallels between it and Dances With Wolves pretty early on, but that wasn't enough for me to go all ANGRY BITTER CRITIC on its a**. I got my money's worth out of it. When you can enjoy a movie like that despite its flaws, you win.

ME2, to me, was amazing... except for a few plot points that felt contrived to me, but other than that, the combat, story, dialogue, and overall presentation impressed. Again, it had a few faults, but I still loved it. Still a fan of the trilogy (unless ME3 is a disaster.

i think you got me wrong lol. I loved avatar, hell i even watched it on the internet then decided to go watch it in 3d at the theater, but i accept the fact that storywise it was pure crap and i knew storywise it was gonna be crap before seeing it.

ME2 is - some flaws aside - overall my favourite game ever (in 20+ years of gaming) and Avatar is my favourite movie of the last few years (got the Blu-ray on pre-order and awaiting it eagerly). So... No? :)

If Avatar didn't have such amazing graphics (I say graphics because they were all CG) then it would not be good. It was very predictable and kind of skipped around at the beginning glossing over huge areas. It almost needed to be longer. I know that's stupid and I know how it was already almost too long.

The sci-fi parts at the beginning were the best of any movie I have seen but after about 8 minutes it went from amazing to okay.

I still watched it 4 times. It is weirdly addicting. Kinda like Borderlands (just not as good). Don't know why it is so good, it just is.

I enjoy the game, just wish they didn't nerf it so much.  I always enjoyed all the features that ME had.  All sorts of weapons and armors to choose from and such.

Avatar, I really loved that move.  Great experience watching it in 3d at the theaters.

I see your point but the people that you speak of arn't dumb enough to look past all the flaws I loved avatar but your right it was patheticly predictable mass effect 2 was amazing too me all the things I had done making some kind off comeback but all the plot holes lack of rpg elements are what kept it back they just like it cause their looking on the bright side and ignoring the flaws and thats great you're just focusing on the flaws and thats ok theres nothing really wrong here its just how some look at these it opinion (sorry if I spelt stuff wrong and the puncuation)

Have you looked at Hollywood lately? The funny thing is that if behaved like those actors want us to, we couldn't pay to see their movies and make them rich. And they never put their money where their mouth is, because they are the ones "raising awareness."

The coolest thing about Avatar is probably the light attack VTOL aircraft.

Of course I've looked at it. It's Hollywood. Don't think you're so clever cause you know what goes-down-in-hollywood. It's a town of performers and such, this is no secret. Stop giving a crap if they've got an agenda or not, because they are fricken performers and entertainers. Divert your attention to the senate and washington if you want to impress anyone with knowledge of relevant politics.

I don't know how Avatar is remotely comparable to Mass Effect, really. That's like comparing Titanic and Master and Commander because they both took place on a ship.

Yup... Avatar is pretty much anti military and then stretches itself into even being anti human. I like being human!

Also, go and watch Aliens again. Thanks James Cameron =P

In my opinion Avatar is the best movie i've seen in several years, a simple but envolving story that has a beggining, middle and a decent end, wich is far more than i can say for most movies out there. The design of the world is amazingly done.
ME2 however should have been better than what it is, it's a good game but it should have been a great game.

Yep, this was my reaction.
I'm A Human (watch it, we'll have none of that)
I like being Human
and I am assured that a film preaching human evil and savagery is not a positive contribution to the film industry.
What would be positive is a ME film. when ME3 is finished, take all the story of the trilogy and make a film.

Avatar = meh. Great way to blow a billion bucks, I guess.

Not a big fan of the lame lefty anti-military, anti-business, pro-tree hugging garbage the commies in Hollywood have been puking out forever.

Yep Exactly, hey it's even anti-human.
James Cameron is to me like Turians, they are anti-human and thats bad, but hey what with the other stuff they do they're not all that bad.

... Is this the thread where I lie and say I absolutely abhor both Avatar and ME2 to fit in??? XD

But I loved Avatar... The world and people we're so colorful and intriguing... Plus I loved the emphasis on the connectedness on every living thing. As a horse rider and as a Native American by blood and through teaching, that concept really speaks to me... I'm not going to lie, I was teary eyed when Neytiri lost her banshee... Furthermore, I'd like to point out the fact that pochantos didn't stab people in the face, so your argument of Avatar being like pochantaos is invalid. =P

And I absolutely loved ME2... They improved a lot from the first game, like adding diversity to the side-level missions. Plus I loved the detail of the game. The fact you could build more meaningful and deep relationships with the characters was awesome. Plus it's a game that makes you think about your actions, instead of the perpetual and usual running and gunning. While there were some minor flaws, I thought ME2 was absolutely amazing.

Of course I'm bound to hear tons of rebuttal for my opinion, aren't I?

I was very dissapointed with ME2 when it came to plot telling, face customization and half the suicide mission.

Avatar on the other hand was anti human. But it was still a good film.

Nope. Hated Avatar (with reservations), loved ME2 (again, with reservations). Even one character of ME2 - I'm thinking Mordin Solus - had more complexity and moral ambiguity than the whole of Avatar added together. The film talked down to the whole movie-going audience.

...they're both quite pretty, though.

You can't deny that Avatar was a very well put together movie. It was truly an epic experience but fell extremely short on its plot. It also suffered from the same problem a lot of movies are now suffering from. It is hard to describe but they feel so Anti-Human. I loved District 9 but even that was somewhat Anti-Human.

Mass Effect 2's plot was a lot better. I think it fell a little short at the end. The journey there however, was an unforgettable experience.

too many films are getting anti human. I don't get it who are the film creators trying to impress? Non-Humans?

But seriously who would like to watch a film that spends 90% of the film is spend excuse my slang but 'slagging off' humans. The only reason Avatar is famous is a collection of four words. James Cameron Good Graphics. James Cameron is a good director but Avatar not his best by any measure. And as for the Special Effects, i have to admit they are good, but that does not indicate a good film. they spend several hundred million dollars on SE when they should've been working on a decent storyline. When it came to the Oscars I was very pleased to see other films (predominantly HurtLocker) Kicking it's blue spear-chucking arse.
