The only metal genres I can really enjoy is Death Metal and Brutal Death Metal. Almost everything else within metal has been tainted. Nowadays, we got Metalcore (****), Deathcore (listening to it is worse than torture), Nu Metal (horrendous stuff the "br00tal" kids listen too), Hardcore (probably in the same line as Nu Metal, it's "br00tal").

Death Metal is the answer.

Plenty of newer bands that still play the thing the way it should be played. Check out Teitanblood, for example. =]

I don't know much about the metal politics and whatever bs that entails, but I do know that both Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth have made some songs that I like a lot.

punk (and all of its sub-genres), ska, "Big 4" thrash, some assorted bands like Metric, Muse, Bloc Party, and The Action Design (former members of Tsunami Bomb).

Punk nowadays is nowhere near what it was in 70's.

Yet another metalhead here, mostly death metal and thrash with some black metal and traditional stuff thrown in.

I can't name a single Norwegian DM band, Soulside Journey slays but Darkthrone aren't a death metal band. And as for most Scandinavian DM coming from Sweden, the Finnish death metal scene is definitely up there with Sweden. There are a lot of bands in the Finnish scene, it's just that none of them are as well known as the Swedish heavyweights like Entombed or Dismember.

Rap: people who think they have rythm.

Techno: synthetic music made on a f**kin' computer.

Modern R'n'B: no where close to the classics of the 60's.

Deathcore: Death Metal's little failed brother.

Pop: why the **** does every pop artist sing about love?

Thrash Metal: slowly crawling up from it's ashes.

Black Metal: I just don't like Black Metal.

Metalcore: created from the union of generic metal and hardcore, it's ****.

Punk: trying to immitate what it used to be in the 70's.

Norway is probably the area where more Black Metal comes from.

Always this ridiculous hate.

Just because Cradle are so good even MTV has recoginsed it doesn´t mean they are Sh!t now.....

Cradle started with an awesome debut (Principle of Evil made Flesh) and hold that niveau up to now. Also, they got unarguably the best musicvideos any metalband has ever made, the best merchandise, the most - totally deserved - success and are great in concert as well as on CD.

Cradle is not a band, is a franchise of pseudogoth merchandise with records to pretend they are a band. Have you actually seen them live? Probably one of the worst so called Black Metal bands on stage, even worse than Arch Enemy.

Precisely MTV is the best recognition to confirm that they are mainstream and when Extreme Metal gets in there something is terribly wrong. Emperor started quite before them and even a crapy record like Prometheus is quite better than anything Cradle has ever published.

Try to see The Exploited. Probably the best punk band on a stage.

Maybe a decade ago, but nowdays, places like France have a very powerful scene with bands such as Antaeus or Death Spell Omega.

And for Carcharoth; I have actually cited 3: Blood Red Throne, Cadaver and Zyklon.

I think Mastodon actually has some of the best metal music videos. On topic, I like a good mix of your average rock (hate radio friendly hard rock), indie/alternative stuff (plus a bit of folk) when I'm in the mood, various forms of metal (I'll give anything a listen to) and some electronic (Hot Chip and the like). But really I'll listen to anything at least once :P.

So if I were to mention Haste the Day, who's going to jump down my throat first?

Personally I really enjoy Haste the Day, lol.
May like Death Metal, too, but HTD is probs one of my favorite bands.

Always Jimi Hendrix (I say his name because he is just his own genre).
Jimi is the god of music. Every song he has done is freaking gold.

I also listen to Thrash Metal, 60s - 70 rock, and some R&B.

Stitches is probably one of the best songs they've written. Along side madman and pressure the hinges.
