I only listen to video game music, movie soundtracks, classical and jazz.

Any music with lyrics in it sucks in my opinion.

Worst music by far is rap.

Have you listened to the Sonic Clag´s re-visited soundtrack from Doom?

I don't listen to music for the lyrical aspect.  Frankly, I could care less what sort of "message" the artist is trying to communicate.

I view that good vocals add depth to appropriate musiks, so they function more as another instrument to me.

Ooh. That's a pretty bold slap to thousands of years in musical history.

It's just my personal preference.  I think music itself is a form of communication that speaks directly to your emotions.  Lyrics aren't necessary and they distract from this.

Well, I don't have xenophobic nature. I can listen to music from every genre, this doesn't mean any music, tho. I was raised on calssics like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd and so on. Later on I had a time of fascination with metal and industrial... now I can say I'm mostly into alternative. I like fresh things like Micachu and the Shapes, but I'm not afraid of poppy kitch like Natalie Portman's Shaved Head or Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Still, I listen to some rock (Coheed and Cambria, Placebo, Radiohead, The White Stripes, The Dead Weather, Muse, Tool...) sometimes I have mood for something totaly different, like The Dresden Dolls (that band of Amanda Palmer's, Neil Gaiman's girlfriend) or Speech Debelle (a young R'n'B artist from London, won Mercury Prize last year).

Discovering new things is so much fun!

Cradle is not a band, is a franchise of pseudogoth merchandise with records to pretend they are a band. Have you actually seen them live? Probably one of the worst so called Black Metal bands on stage, even worse than Arch Enemy.

Yes I have, though, unfortunately, only once yet. And know what? I thought it was great. The friend who was with me on the concert thought the same, btw, and up to then he had hated Cradle.....

Precisely MTV is the best recognition to confirm that they are mainstream and when Extreme Metal gets in there something is terribly wrong. Emperor started quite before them and even a crapy record like Prometheus is quite better than anything Cradle has ever published.

Cradle are not mainstream, and besides, only mindless idiots stop listening to good music because the "mainstream" recognizes their greatness. If you need to hate every successful band just to be cool, I´m sorry for you. I know what I like, and if so many others like them too, that they have commercial success, just the better. Gives them more money for records, concerts, stageshow etc...

That doesn´t mean I hate unsuccessful bands, but I don´t see why having only 50 fans is a sign of a great band. Sometimes, having no success simply means the band can´t play.
(Not always, unfortunately, and plenty of bands show you can have success without good music, but still....)

Cradle is not mainstream? WTF!? Learn what metal is, then you'll understand why Statulos and I, both feel that Cradle is mainstream. And just like he said, I agree. Cradle is closer to a fanchise, than a metal band.

I know what metal is - probably better than you. According to your posts, you seem to think

Metal = norwegian music with less than 50 fans, crappy recordings, and intolerance towards everything else.

Cradle is not "TRVE" or "KVLT" black metal, but they don´t claim to be either, they´re extreme metal with their own style.

Oh, and Mainstream means everyone knows them. Reality is different, though.

Listen, I hate norwegian Metal, basically because many norwegian band plays the same, boring Black Metal ****. Besides, I'm not intolerant to everything, just against almost everything.

But seriously, Cradle isen't even Black Metal, their more of a twist between Black/Gothic/Extreme. Cradle is not pure Black Metal.

Fans of metal need not be intolerant of everything else, but I would be greatly pleased if they would kindly exercise some judgement when applying the "metal" label to tripe like CoF. If you're going to argue genres, I'd say that CoF aren't black metal at all (gothic metal perhaps?), and the Norwegians making the "crappy recordings" of real black metal would most likely be insulted by your association of CoF with their music.

Cradle of Filth? Yeah, I know them, and I'm not into metal very much. So... yeah, I think I would put mr. Dani and his Merry Team to the mainstream.

Ok, sorry for misunderstanding you then.

But seriously, you say it yourself: Cradle aren´t Black Metal. I totally agree. And the band themselves do,btw. Actually, according to some interviews, they get pretty pissed if people put them in the black metal corner.

BUT they are still Metal. There is more Metal than Black and Death.
