Plus I'd feel like a jackass strutting around the Normandy in a ballgown and tiara.

I bet a longer dress would have had more clipping issues since it seems like its easier for the game's designers to model something form-fitting than flowing (judging by the hairstyles and clothes in general).

I'd prefer Shepard's sassy little black dress than some immersion breaking twitch of watching her knees intermittently poke through a gown.

And super technically, if an event is formal, but not white-tie formal, a cocktail length dress is still appropriate, even if Shep was the only one ( at least according to Emily Post....who knows what guides exist in the future :P).

It isn't just about the dress, it's about "fitting in and respect". She was the only one at the formal party in a short dress that showed so much skin. She looked like an "out of my comfort zone, unsure, awkard" human, instead of a "kick ass, confident, I can handle anything, Commander". Again, anything to dress it up would have been more appropriate (gloves, mini-jacket, shawl, etc). I'm no fashionista, but I know how to "fit in", especially if I'm out to case a joint for God's sake. Blending in is everything in that scenario. It's like going to church in jeans and a flannel shirt - sure, people do it, but it's still tacky, don't you think??? AND, people stare and talk about that person, so how can you "sneak around"????? Shepherd has state of the art armor, guns, tech and ship - why did she go to a party in that??? (and don't tell me it's because Kasumi got it for her, Kasumi has better taste, or she wouldn't be a master thief). And yeah, out of the entire controversial DLC, that stupid dress bothered me the most. My femShep felt and looked awkard, mannish, clumsy and suspicious. No wonder Hock didn't shake my hand......

Seriously, go re-watch spy and merc vids where the fems DO wear formal dresses:long & short, slits versus non, leather vs other, gloved and ungloved, etc - and look GREAT (Angelina Jolie, Jamie Lee Curtis, Demi Moore, Hallie Berry, J-Lo, etc). If she had bigger boobs, she could have borrowed Samara's black and gold outfit, and still looked better than she did in the stupid black dress & cheap shoes.....

Males like skin. Males are main target audience. Bioware shows skin. Males like. Males buy. Bioware makes $$$. Males happy. Bioware happy.

Sometimes the simplest answer is the real one.

Skilled Seeker - Agree with you, sad but true about "Males buy". Surprised Christina Norman agreed, wonder if she even knew???. Said before, say again - grateful not a thong or bikini that some have actually put in writing they would have loved to have seen. Also sad I paid for DLC I was embarrassed in, and now have to have stupid LBD in my inventory...........

And shamelessly I must admit that I like the outfit too and wouldn't want it any longer because of erm clipping issues :P

My only gripe with the dress is that FemShep's animations are not lady-like. From walking to standing. Especially in some conversations where she sits down and spreads her legs SO WIDE.

Well your in the military or at the very least, very ex-military for how many years? 12 or so?, hard to lose that stride and the old habits. You spend 98% of your time walking around in flats and combat boots, and suddenly your wearing heels. Can totally go with the "awkward sheppard."

Dress was nice, designed to catch target's eye, of course nothing goes according to plan and target not shaking your hand etc meant kasumi had to improvise. I'm sure her orginal plan had something to deal with sheppard convicing him to go his private quarters etc. Voice record him, knock his ass out, find DNA, break into vault, life is good.

Either way, While I wish they had replaced the default walk, I kindof understand why they didn't, sheppard is used to covert-ops missions, nor formal dinners or balls. Etiher sheppard would remind me of someone who doesn't even want to be there in the first place because they feel silly or vulnerable not wearing armor and especially for this primary reason - out of their element.

I loved the dress. It was basically exactly what I've always wanted to see her wear. A little black dress to show some femininity. It's far more modest then a lot of you people are saying it is. It's a couple of inches above the knee and yeah she's showing her arms and a bit of cleavage. Also, don't compare her to the plain Jane NPC's. Then femShep walking like a man in it was just icing on the cake. I was dreading she'd walk slow and sexy the entire time. I wanted to see some femininity, not turn her into some sexy spy agent type person.

I think it'd be out of character if she didn't walk like a man.

My Shepard grew up on the streets in a gang, then went straight into the military. There's not a lot of room for female gender stratification training when you're surrounded by a bunch of men.

In ME2 though, she's working with some very sexual feminine women. I mean, look at Ashley and Liara vs Miranda and Samara. So story wise, I imagine there's this unconscious urge to show she's got some sexy boobs, not sweaty balls.

I agree I thought the animations suited the situation perfectly. Shepard's a military grunt that shoots things not a spy or an actor.

You know that fems in real life military have skirts as "dress unis" right, and not all of them lack style just 'cause in military??? AND, Samara and Miranda run, leap and fight (and meditate) in heeled boots for God's sake, so get a grip - I'm asking for consistency and "fitting in" - undercover is all about remaining unobtrusive, blending in, being unnoticed. What part of that does the LBD cover (pun intended!)???? Same dress, longer with above the elbow gloves or something. Or, the same long tunic and pants that the men wore would have been fine too, and allowed femShep to blend in with, not stand out from, the crowd......

I don't approve since it looks out of place compared to all of the dresses/gowns we've seen other ME characters ware. The only solution to this issue is to have a "casual clothes" shop in the Citadel for ME:3. =p

I think it'd be out of character if she didn't walk like a man.

Dude femsheps animations do not fit right at all and she doesn't only sound like a bull ****** she sounds like a  very average and boring bull ******. Terrible v.o.

Dress is fine though. Why should she fit in with the crowd? She brought a frickin gold statue of Saren as a gift to the host. No way she isn't going to stand out anyways. Besides there'd be a point here if she got caught but she didn't.

That said it doesn't fit the setting very well on the ship, but also works great with Samara's loyalty mission. Except for the fact that the animations are still just off.

And it's not just that she looks like a man. It's that she's EXACTLY the same as male shep and the animations don't always look right on him either because they're overdone. Holy f*cking uncanny valley batman. That is all.

I loved it. About time femshep lets her hair down and parties the night away.

to be honest, I like to see those military gals running in combat with heels on then. Whoever thought of that should be shot for the sake of miranda and Samara's feet. But hey, i'm not female, but i know enough you can't fight very well in heels. I would love to see women in real life attempt to fight in real life. The girls i know have a hard enough time even going faster than a walk in them.

Probably horrible movie reference but XXX (orginal one) When Vin notes the waittress is walking around in heels and called BS on that.......... and if i recall he said she would have blisters by the end of the day? and your having these two fighting in combat for how long?

I don't give an crap about mirada and Samara is kindof ok character, she is decently well written, but stuff like that is absurd.

In the end, miranda and Samara wearing heels was to give them a sexy look for guys, not anything else. Only reason why they are wearing heels more than likely.

Either way, I just don't picture sheppard wearing heels anyway.

Gotta say, went to "ME saves" website and downloaded some seriously cool duds for femShep (and maleShep). They look awesome (and were free!). Did Samara's LM (loyalty mission) in one of the outfits, wish I could've switched outfits for Kasumi's LM. Now, there are a few 'weird" outfits included, I'll be honest (like what the batarians wore in obtaining Mordin), but having the ability to look cool, while blending in, did wonders for my gameplay, so I ignored those weird ones!! Kudos to Strudelman!!! Played for the 5th time in some seriously cool duds...........

It is funny watching her use biotic charge in that dress though... that alone is worth it.

I liked the dress. It compliments my FemShep accordingly. Now about those skimpy armored dresses from Dragon Age... if they were in ME2...

Win.

Still hate that LBD - Piece of "charity hand me down tacky crap". Seriously, compared to the downloaded long "Asari" style "classy" dresses (from totally covered femShep to skin showing through in just the right places), there is no comparison. So, anybody get that I really HATE the LBD????? (Even after 5 playthroughs, and reading posts - I haven't changed my mind). Sad isn't it, that's the only thing I really disliked about the game, 2nd only to not be able to save through the Hammerhead missions (you gotta finish the mission, can't save at any point during). Ok, moving on (not really!)..............

OK- just updating, since I now have played over 15 times. Downloaded purple striped and green striped dress, versus black leather and can tolerate it a bit more. The black and purple dress uniform to wear around the Normandy is awesome (all free TexMod downloads), and so is the "science" one. Yep, I just admitted it, took the "Fashionista" achievement way too seriously!!!. But, wanted to go on record as writing...having the ability to change eye color, hairstyle and outfits, made me play the game 17 times, AND got 5 other folks to buy and play the game as FemSheps, based on screenshots of my totally kicked up and rockin' FemShep - Just gonna end with that............
