I'd prefer Shepard's sassy little black dress than some immersion breaking twitch of watching her knees intermittently poke through a gown.
And super technically, if an event is formal, but not white-tie formal, a cocktail length dress is still appropriate, even if Shep was the only one ( at least according to Emily Post....who knows what guides exist in the future

My only gripe with the dress is that FemShep's animations are not lady-like. From walking to standing. Especially in some conversations where she sits down and spreads her legs SO WIDE.
Well your in the military or at the very least, very ex-military for how many years? 12 or so?, hard to lose that stride and the old habits. You spend 98% of your time walking around in flats and combat boots, and suddenly your wearing heels. Can totally go with the "awkward sheppard."
Dress was nice, designed to catch target's eye, of course nothing goes according to plan and target not shaking your hand etc meant kasumi had to improvise. I'm sure her orginal plan had something to deal with sheppard convicing him to go his private quarters etc. Voice record him, knock his ass out, find DNA, break into vault, life is good.
Either way, While I wish they had replaced the default walk, I kindof understand why they didn't, sheppard is used to covert-ops missions, nor formal dinners or balls. Etiher sheppard would remind me of someone who doesn't even want to be there in the first place because they feel silly or vulnerable not wearing armor and especially for this primary reason - out of their element.

I think it'd be out of character if she didn't walk like a man.
My Shepard grew up on the streets in a gang, then went straight into the military. There's not a lot of room for female gender stratification training when you're surrounded by a bunch of men.
In ME2 though, she's working with some very sexual feminine women. I mean, look at Ashley and Liara vs Miranda and Samara. So story wise, I imagine there's this unconscious urge to show she's got some sexy boobs, not sweaty balls.

I agree I thought the animations suited the situation perfectly. Shepard's a military grunt that shoots things not a spy or an actor.

Dude femsheps animations do not fit right at all and she doesn't only sound like a bull ****** she sounds like a very average and boring bull ******. Terrible v.o.I think it'd be out of character if she didn't walk like a man.
Dress is fine though. Why should she fit in with the crowd? She brought a frickin gold statue of Saren as a gift to the host. No way she isn't going to stand out anyways. Besides there'd be a point here if she got caught but she didn't.
That said it doesn't fit the setting very well on the ship, but also works great with Samara's loyalty mission. Except for the fact that the animations are still just off.
And it's not just that she looks like a man. It's that she's EXACTLY the same as male shep and the animations don't always look right on him either because they're overdone. Holy f*cking uncanny valley batman. That is all.

You know that fems in real life military have skirts as "dress unis" right, and not all of them lack style just 'cause in military??? AND, Samara and Miranda run, leap and fight (and meditate) in heeled boots for God's sake, so get a grip - I'm asking for consistency and "fitting in" - undercover is all about remaining unobtrusive, blending in, being unnoticed. What part of that does the LBD cover (pun intended!)???? Same dress, longer with above the elbow gloves or something. Or, the same long tunic and pants that the men wore would have been fine too, and allowed femShep to blend in with, not stand out from, the crowd......
to be honest, I like to see those military gals running in combat with heels on then. Whoever thought of that should be shot for the sake of miranda and Samara's feet. But hey, i'm not female, but i know enough you can't fight very well in heels. I would love to see women in real life attempt to fight in real life. The girls i know have a hard enough time even going faster than a walk in them.
Probably horrible movie reference but XXX (orginal one) When Vin notes the waittress is walking around in heels and called BS on that.......... and if i recall he said she would have blisters by the end of the day? and your having these two fighting in combat for how long?
I don't give an crap about mirada and Samara is kindof ok character, she is decently well written, but stuff like that is absurd.
In the end, miranda and Samara wearing heels was to give them a sexy look for guys, not anything else. Only reason why they are wearing heels more than likely.
Either way, I just don't picture sheppard wearing heels anyway.

All ManShep gets is a retexture of the Cerberus uniform so most ManShep players are the ones feeling shafted on this.
I demand a little black dress for ManShep.
