YES. Screw the haters, I'd love Kahlee Sanders in ME3. She plays an integral role in the novels, after all, it's only fair we get to meet her. Also Gillian Grayson, she sounds like an interesting character. And Kai Leng, I'd love to take him down.

And despite what many would believe, some of the more minor characters (e.g. Emily Wong, Parasini) help breath life into the games.

I would also love to have some of the minor characters come back especially Khalisa al jilani, maybe she mentions my actions in Arrival then i have another reason to hit her again.

Shiala, Emily Wong, Veetor, Kal'reegar, Parasini,Gavorn and Aria should all come back.

Since Kahlee is officially with Anderson now, it seems likely we'll meet her. The games haven't been shy about referencing the events of the first two novels as canon, after all (pressing Anderson for the story about him and Saren eventually gets you a brief summary of Revelation, and asking Tali about the incident that caused animosity between the flotilla and Cerberus will be answered with a clear reference to Ascension, including a mention of a "biotic child," which is to say Gillian). My question is, how will the events with Anderson post-ME2 be different if he was made Councilor, or if Shepard destroyed the Collector Base rather than giving it to the Illusive Man?

It is amazing how the same threads keep popping up. Now I'm feeling all nostalgic. I've stated my opinion elsewhere, but I think I can be more specific now. While I never really liked Kahlee, she was a better character in Mass Effect: Revelation than later. In that novel, she was the geek who got in over her head, and she filled that role well. She was smart; she was cautious; she was shrewd. She was thoughtful with her decisions. The reader got the impression that she really struggled with the decision to go UA. She didn't give Anderson all the infomation she had at first because she didn't trust him. She seemed introspective, even claiming she wasn't a good person at one point. While I can't say I liked her character, I still thought she had potential. Either way, she fulfilled her role in the novel and was an effective supporting character to Anderson and Saren.

In Mass Effect: Ascension, along with her promotion to protagonist, she seemed to undergo a personality change. She was no longer cagey and introspective. She struck me as a wholly self-absorbed character who lived in her own little world. She was easily lead around by Jiro. She couldn't come up with a better solution to Grayson taking Gillian than going with him. She has shown no compunction, twice, with abandoning her charges to run off and do something else. Not to mention the fact that, given how hard she has tried to hide her parentage, she was very blasé about using her father's name to get her job back.

I also find vexing her effect on those around her, especially the men. I hate characters who have an inordinate number of members of the opposite sex become obsessed with them. Anderson is willing to shirk his duty whenever she becomes involved. Considering that devotion to duty has is one of Anderson's core character traits, it means Kahlee literally makes him act out of character. While it was a plot point in the first book, it was a bit much in the third. He literally threw everything he had worked for his entire life for someone whom he had helped, who had rejected him and to whom he had not spoken in decades. Personally, I find it to be very bad writing. It is like the author can't convince us the character is great, so they show other characters fawning or obsessing over them to show their greatness. I was actually getting a little sick of all the worship Shepard got in Mass Effect 2. Show us; don't tell us.

While those are the reasons I don't like Kahlee, the main reason Kahlee is a bad character is the is totally passive. At the start of the first novel, she was the catalyst that put things in motion. Since then, she has done nothing but react to the actions of others. That is not a strong character. That is not a good protagonist. She has not contributed anything to the events other than her presence.

As for Kahlee getting a cameo in Mass Effect 3, I really don't really care. I don't like the character, but there are other characters I don't like who'll probably be in the game, so what's one more. Overall, though, I just want her to go away at this point.

Excellent analysis, Mr0TYuH.

I remember liking her character (or at least sympathizing with her) after the first novel, but have gradually grown to dislike her over the course of the series, and particularly after Retribution. Your post nicely articulates the reasons why.

Although I'm not sure it's just Kahlee's character development that has gone downhill - for example, one could argue that the awesomeness of Anderson has been diminished somewhat by his actions in the third novel. Same goes for TIM.

Thank you, and I agree with your assessment of other characters.

Personally, my vote for worst character assassination goes to Cerberus, although that isn't so much character assassination as overexposure. Cerberus was really mysterous and interesting in Mass Effect--the top secret division of the Alliance Military that went rogue. Since then, they have featured prominently in every novel, comic and game. Now they are no longer mysterous, and they are a lot less fascinating.

Add the fact they are an antagonistic organization that needs to be repeatedly thwarted by the protagonists, and you have a common problem with many villains: they become much less threatening. I wish Cerberus had stayed in the shadows.

Of course, that's only my opinion.

I wish they hadn't taken every time Cerberus is mentioned in the novels to remind us of how much they hate aliens, seems comical.

I think a team mate is to much (unless it is only for a quest involving her). I would prefer to see her as a deep side character (like anderson). Besides Kahlee, i would love to see side characters come back, and just populate the mass effect world. i would prefer a face to face interaction for my past actions instead of an email. but Kahlee needs to appear in ME3
