I don't know what to say, playing through a male shep either in ME1 or ME2 makes me cringe so much that i cannot complete an ME2 playthrough with a male shep, i had to quit halfway and replay with a femshep which seems so much more natural as malesheps voice gets so monotoned and it tends to spoil the immersion(playing with DLC armor makes this worse).

Anybody else get this problem?

I play renegade, and I much prefer Meer over Hale. Couldn't stand Hale as renegade actually.

Only recently have I started to have this problem. I don't know if it's the voice or appearance or what, playing with FemShep is just more enjoyable.

I have quite opposite feeling towards femshep, her talking sounds so calm and allways on the same tone and it just sounds like she is really bored.

specially renegade male shepard is work of art in my opinion

Everyone has their preferances I don't mind either though the only problem I have with male shep is his smile.

I don't like Hale's voicework. I'm not saying Meer's is far superior, but imo it's better than Hale's.

Also, I have a problem playing as a female in a video game, especially ME. Not because I'm sexist, but because I see myself in whatever character I'm playing, and to see myself as a woman is.....uncomfortable...? I had no problems playing Kameo though, so maybe it's just ME.

is it because cameo forces you to play as female though?

Probably, with Kameo there was no choice and it's much less personal then ME.

Just started a female and it seems some times her pitch shifts to much for me though she does sound really good hale is a better voice actor this tonight is my first time hearing her though I never once played ME1 as a female and I owned it from launch played it like 20 times always male.

I to Don't really like playing as a Female in games only because I like playing bad guys and girls just don't look as hardcore to me.

After a few short attempts in both ME1 and 2, I just decided not to bother anymore and accept that Shepard is a woman.

It's not that I hated Meer's voice acting (in ME2 at least) - what little I got to hear of it - but it just wasn't Shepard.

I imagine I might have had the opposite preference if I had originally played through ME1 with MaleShep - although given that I was a big fan of Jennifer Hale long before ME1, perhaps not.

I think they are both fine.

Hale does a better "civilian leader", and Meer's a better military leader.

The difference is Hale's dialgue is generally an attempt to show that she is in charge, she has the good idea, she is the head honcho. She is trying to SHOW it. Meer's is more like someone who thinks he already has charge off the situation and has everyone's respect as a leader. So Hale's would probably be more iftting in ME1, Meer's more in ME2. You are John f. Sheppard, after all, savior of the universe.

I find Meer deliver's a better paragon experience. He delivers those softy lines very well imo. I love Hale's voice because she sounds like a hardass and delivers the renegade lines best. subsequently a large majority of my paragons are male and my renegades are fem.

Same here. I tried, both in ME1 as well as in ME2, but I just couldn't... For me, Shepard is female.

Nah, I have no such problems. I like Hale's voice, always did and wish to hear it more. But when it comes to male Shepard's voice then it's OK. Males don't overflow with emotions on every thing. I may not like several responses as such but that's not voice actors issue, rather the crappy dialogue writing from Bioware, but voice itself is good. Male Shep sounds more natural, relaxed.

I actually can't stand FemShep... Her voice is too.... butch... for me. It is like she is trying to be Male.

I have no problems with Male Shep..... Actually now that I'm thinking about... There were sometimes he did seem a little... "dry"? I still perfer Male Shep over FemShep.

I enjoy both VO actors myself. After all my numerous playthroughs of ME1 and ME2, I just associate the voices with the characters.

Though I don't mind Meer at all, Hale is the superior VA imo.

As much as I love Hale's Femshep, I would pay any amount of money to hear femshep lines in Bastila's voice. She is hands down my favorite Hale character.

Then don't play as a male Shepard and stop complaining.

I have the same problem, I just couldn't get into the game as male Shepard. I managed to make it through ME1 with a male shep but it felt... tedious. In ME2 I gave up somewhere before the IFF mission. It's just that every time that he opened his mouth I found myself gritting my teeth. I'd say it's all about personal taste, about which of the voices you like more...

Same here. I don't see anything wrong with either actor. And there are at least a dozen topics on this. Can we please DROP IT.

Male Shepard is the most expressionless voice acting ever seen. And the accent is terrible. I prefer the Shepard of my country by far.

It's been so long since I played KotOR that I could barely remember Hale's voice acting in that game. The first YouTube video I came across turned out to be pretty funny :):
