Male Shepard is the most expressionless voice acting ever seen...

I take it you haven't played Just Cause 2? :) Great open world action game, but it has hands down the worst voice acting I've heard in several years - good thing the cut scenes are short (and rather irrelevant).

Just Cause 2 will make every other game's voice acting seem fantastic, fact.

Yeah that's the point isn't it? Male and Female Shepherd have better voiceovers than most games.

Im not saying meers vice is bad or anything, its just that his voice is... expressionless most of the time.

I done four playthroughs, all with femshep and I still dont have any inclination to do maleshep at all.

A big part to that is the voice acting of Jennifer Hale. She stood out leaps and bounds in ME and after watching a few youtube clips of MaleShep again I know this is the case for ME2.

I play Paragade alot and I can't stand Hale as a renegade. I can stand Meers Paragon bcause it's not that bad, but he is fantastic as a renegade, Halo not so much.

Don't kill me but. I have to disagree. I started with a manshep and always use the same manshep, so when i used a femshep i found that her voice is odd instead of the blokes, and i found the femshep's voice quite flat, monotone and boring. Honestly i do.

hmmm tempting but we wont kill you  :P

Not everyone is going to like playing femshep.  In fact the vast majority of ME2 players will play as male.   However from the forum users it seems femshep is quite popular.   One of my friends has a poll here:

http://social.biowar...168/polls/2829/

Of course a sample of 1000 people isnt going to give reliable results, but it makes things a little more interesting dont you think.   Oh and there is an associated thread with it which goes in depth onto a lot of the points this thread is begginging to touch on.   You can find it here:  http://social.biowar...3/index/1491217

I'm not saying femsheps are bad, i just disagree that they have non-monotone voices the majority of the time.

I love Mark Meer, his renegade lines are hilarious. He makes Shepard sound like a cheesy action hero, and it works for me.

My thoughts exactly, my only male Shepard so far didn't get further than Freedom's Progress :D

They couldn't actually afford Mark Meer so they replaced him with an old Speak & Spell someone had left lying around the office.

True story.

Meer's voice is incredibly fitting to the default head, and very fitting as a Paragon. He's also a damned good Renegade, too.

imo, of course.

I feel the opposite to the OP. Hale seems too overdramatic to me as if she's trying to sound like a badass. With Meer it's just there naturally.

I like the maleshep, on top of that, I prefer him. Actually, I like both of them, but Renegade MaleShep has some comical relief in some cases, while Hale is rather cruel. Actually, this is a good thing in my opinion, they both add a different flavor to the same character.

Hale delivers, simply put. The male saves the galaxy/world thing is getting kind of old. It's very refreshing to see a woman in a strong role.

Another problem with meers voice is i cannot see the shepard i created when he speaks... meaning when shepard opens his mouth, the vanderloo shepard pops in my head... gets even worse if i am wearing a helmet.

hale is terrible as a rebegade sheperd and okay as paragon where as meer is good as a paragon and flat out awesome as renegade...and I agree that a lot of hales reneagde lines make her seem cruel and realy unlikable where as meer does have more comedic timing to some of his renegade lines...overall hale is good but meer is much better...

It doesn't feel natural because you got used to the FemShep

For me it doesn't feel natural for Shepard being a woman 'cos I got used to the male Shepard

When i first started ME1, I start as male Shepard like my usual RPG playstyle. then started 2nd playthrough as renegade female Shepard. Male Shepard sounds decent, though there's some moments that made me cringe too.

I didn't like how female Shepard sounds at first but she grew on to me. The more I played her, the more I started to like her.

I played both Shepards in both games equally before settling femShep as my canon. (I'm male btw)

Unlike other players, I don't immerse myself into Shepard because s/he actually has a personality that I can forge. S/he's like a person that I knew beside me instead of myself. Which is ironic since I can't play a female character in Dragon Age because I'm the one that reads the line I chose for my character so male as always.
