I have no trouble playing either. After completing my 4th playthrough (Paragon Male, Paragon Female, Renegade Male, Renegade Female), I found myself equally satisfied with the performances.

In ME1, I thought Hale definitely was the better Shep in every instance, but Meer stepped his game up this time. I'd say Hale makes a better Paragon while Meer makes a better Renegade.

No, I actually prefer male Shep to female Shep a bit more. I haven't even played ME2 with my femShep yet.

It depends on your preferences. Some like Meer's flat delivery. Some like Hale's emotional one. Others don't give a crap.

I enjoy both VO actors myself. After all my numerous playthroughs of ME1 and ME2, I just associate the voices with the characters.
Though I don't mind Meer at all, Hale is the superior VA imo.

I enjoy both of them, but I find Meer a better VA. He does a better career soldier imo.

And god, Hale's ultimate line in the Thane Romance made me cringe so hard. Cheesy, and the delivery was horrible.

Meer does the intimate moments very well, in my opinion. (Jack and Tali at least) Oh, another dialogue I have to support Meer in is when you're doing Mordin's loyalty mission and are forcing the paragon views down his throat. Some of the lines there have some of the best delivery I think I've seen. ("Look at the dead woman Mordin, it doesn't look like you saved her." The undercurrents of anger and disgust in Meer's voice are perfect)

For me it doesn't feel natural for Shepard being a woman 'cos I got used to the male Shepard

Ha, you're probably right anyway.

At least neither VO is as bad as the majority of Just Cause 2 which is mediocore for a game that scale. But seriously, no games VO is as bad as House of the dead 2. My god that was a god awful travesty, seriously go look it up on youtube.

Meer's delivery can be very flat, but it always seemed to fit Shepard for me. I tried running through ME2 as a Fem!Shep and had to quit before finishing Freedom's Progress because her voice is.. I just couldn't picture it coming from a Marine. Army, maybe.
That, and I couldn't manage to make an attractive fem!Shep. :(

I have been able to muster enough to play both ME1 and ME2 as MaleShep, but I STRONGLY prefer to play as FemShep, as a male I find it particularly enticing to watch her sweet ass all game long... Her voice is pretty good too...

I have to agree with those who said Meer's voice fits the default John Shepard. It does. And incredibly so!

Not gonna read this entire thread, but my experience is -

I played ME1 for the first time as default Male Shepard. I associate his voice with the default model. Therefore when I play as a non-default Shepard, as soon as he speaks I find it hard to take him seriously.

The voice just doesn't fit the character. Does anyone know what I mean?

With femshep I dont generally have that problem. However when ME3 comes around, my first playthrough, the one I care about the most, will be the default male Shepard as always.

TBH I really like some of Meer's renegade dialog. As someone mentioned, he has a slightly more comedic edge to his delivery which works well for a lot of the renegade dialog.

IMO they could both use a bit of work when talking to love interests. When you romance someone, Meer tends to sound rather wooden, whereas Hale tends to lay it on a little thick.

Still enjoy both performances though.

Almost everybody agrees that Hale is a better voice actor. At least by the majority all around the internet. But it depends on the person still. You play who you like better.

Male Shepard sounds better when it comes to Renegade lines, while Female Shepard sounds better with Paragon lines I thought. I don't get the hate that Meer gets to be honest, he sounds just fine to me.

Male Shep all 3 toons. Tried FemShep once in Me1 and 2 but didn't think it was that great. Not horrible just not for me.

A little game known as biohazard in Japan, or Resident Evil as it's known in the west, had terrible voice acting, I'm talking about the first one btw, not the newer ones.

I hated Meer's VA at first, but as I've been going through my playthrough as male Shep, I find it growing on me, honestly.

I still prefer Hale, but Meer is ok too.

I much prefer FemShep. While I usually end up loving all of Hale's work (the amount of times I've gone "wow that voice was awesome" and looked the actor up on wikipedia only to see Hale's name is.. well, let's just say it's happened a damn lot), I doubt I like FemShep better just because it's Hale.

Whether I play paragon or renegade, I feel most lines are amazing. It took me a while to get used to her though, since on the contrary to most people here, I found her to be very "military" sounding. It's fitting, and Meer goes in that direction as well, but I just wasn't ready to get that kind of tone out the mouth of my character when I created her in ME1. This part obviously has nothing to do with which Shep I like better since I was surprised at both voices, it's just me showing I don't agree with the sentiments some are showing here that FemShep sounds too "civilian" and "emotional".

Here's a thing though. When I did Tali's loyalty mission, paragon path there at the end... I honestly cried with my FemShep delivering those lines. It sounded so insanely good, I can't imagine how it must feel to hear somebody talk about you that way. Whereas the same scene with MaleShep sounds pretty flat. It works, but it's certainly no tear jerker for me.

Of course, all my opinions might be biased a bit since I'm female and thus automatically identify more easily with a female voice, I guess.

As much as I love Hale's Femshep, I would pay any amount of money to hear femshep lines in Bastila's voice. She is hands down my favorite Hale character.

It's been so long since I played KotOR that I could barely remember Hale's voice acting in that game. The first YouTube video I came across turned out to be pretty funny :):

Damn that video bring back so many memories *sigh* I wish they would make KOTOR 3 instead of this **** TOR..

Damn I use to think those graphics were decent? damn it's been a LONG time since I played that game...

I dislike femshep's voice. The voice actor is good, but I much prefer Meer's voice acting. Plus I am a guy.

Haha good one:lol:

Personally I prefer Mark Meer. Not that Jennifer Hale is bad but I can't picture her as a badass commando soldier. I was dissapointed when I first heard that she was gonna give the voice for Femshep back when ME1 was in development. Because that meant that I wouldn't be able to flirt with Bastila again:(

I don't know how anybody could prefer the FemShep voice actor. She sounds like she is trying to force too much emotion into half her lines.

I play both and like both.

However in ME2 FemShep's voice got a little too sultry and breathy no matter who she was talking to...

Played both. Hale is a good VA but her voice in the ME games always sounds so full of forced masculinity and "toughness". It's one thing to try to "take charge" as a gal protagonist, but her voice just goes from one extreme(overly girly in most games with female characters), to ridiculously masculine and rough(Hale in ME) I can't stand it.

Meer isn't a VA god by any definition, but he sounds so much more natural to me than Hale.

Just this guy's opinion.
