Spoiler alert!!!!!!!!

Wow.  I wasn't expecting this reaction!

So I launch Alistair onto the throne thinking my loyal PC would cozy up next to him, and she got shafted!!!!!!  I know there was a choice for her to announce that she would rule beside him, but... that wasn't her style.  So anticlimatic!

Seriously.  When Alistair decides that he needs to find a fertile wife to join him at the throne that is it forever?  How sad!  I can't stand it!  Posted Image

Yeah, a hug would be just shy of perfect right about now.

While I'm sure Leliana is a fine lady to romance, my PC doesn't fancy her.  I doubt she does that adorable little squinty expression right before she lays down a kiss, either.  No, it is no use... my heart is permanently broken.

Thanks, guys.

I knew there was a reason I didn't fully like him...

But seriously, that's freaking depressing!!! I'm sorries... You should play Mass Effect... Everyone and anyone loves you unconditionally... But you have my hugs and support.

How nice! That is just what the doctor ordered. Thank you.

I'm still seriously disturbed. I was so in love with the storyline that I didn't even consider that a betrayal was in the future. I hate Alistair. Let him beg for heals from Wynne... he's not getting one scrap of my poulstices. In fact, let his NEW breedable wife push him to a safe corner to avoid getting flanked while taking arrows in the back. I'm done!

Thanks for the rec for Mass Effect. Maybe I'm too sensitive (aka mental) to play this sophisticated of a game. Maybe I should retreat to the solace of The Sims 3 or something.

Thanks, everyone.

Question though. Did you "harden" him or no? Because if you did, you can convince him to remain by his side as his mistress. And I can almost swaer that if you are a female Cousland, you can be Queen with him (never tried it. Probably never will yuck).

Anyways, welcome to the club. The only virtual woman I practically and for all intents and purposes fell in love with, decided to leave with my PC's baby. And to make thigns worse, my PC had to feel her sadness via the ring she gave him....

Awww. *Hugs Phoenix*

If it's any consolation, my one and only male PC evah is romancing Morrigan now. Poor sod. He's no idea what's in store for him.

My femWardens have it so much easier. Zevran will never leave them.

Hug's all around lol

Seriously though Dragonairess, Alistair won't ask you to marry him if your HNF (which blows btw), you have to do that at the Landsmeet. I'm not sure what the line is after the Landsmeet to become his mistress but if he's hardened he will have you. I've never done it myself but I have read where if he's hardened he will accept the mistress part.

But if your a HNF why be a mistress when you can be his Queen :)

I had the same reaction on my first playthrough as a CEF. It sucks. *hugs* You could do what I did.
I made a HNF and then let him do the Ultimate Sacrifice. Then I proceeded to make another CEF and start a romance with him only to dump him for Zevran. And finally, I made another HNF and married him.Now we're even. lol

Edit: I was mainly trying to unlock the achievements but I figured I might as well use Alistair as payback in those playthroughs.

Is that really better?  Seems kinda sad for the SAVIOR OF FERELDAN to become his "chick on the side."

To me it's not that's why I added at the bottom if your a HNF why be a mistress when you can be his Queen.  I'll never allow my pc to be his mistress.  That's why I've yet been able to play another origin all the way through and start romancing Alistair.  Ya I could make Anora Queen and run away with Alistair but I can't seem to do that either lol.

One would think that being a hero entitles you to be considered as a noble.

Haha really.  The baddest woman in Fereldan gets reduced to being a booty call?!?

I gotta find a vid of that convo!

The time my PC got dumped it was indeed depressing and sad. At the same time, it was kind of good. Tons of room for roleplaying there. After being a really crappy leader for a while and almost getting herself and everyone else killed a few times, she decided he was right, Fereldan did need an heir. It was still sad, but in a 'we did the right thing' kind of way.

Can't say I've done that again, though. ;) It was probably my most virtuous playthrough, although my PC still asked Alistair to do the ritual.

Yeah, the dumping scene is not nice and it's not any better when you go for the mistress ending (if you even can because hardening is another thing that you probably would do naturally if it wasn't such one crappy stupid line). I tried and felt very strange.

I never liked the Landsmeet and it's aftermath because it feels so damn inconsistent.

One little thing blown up to elephantastic proportions to reason a break-up, something that doesn't matter at all if you declare yourself queen or make Anora queen, something that sounds utterly stupid if you are a mage, elf or dwarf.

I always do this biiig hand-waving gesture and tell myself it's bad storytelling due to game mechanics and not really consistent charaterization.

Be wary if you choose to romance plot relevant characters. I heard Zevran's romance is very satisfying. Switch romance on, don't accidentally break up, live happily ever after.

Alas I'm a drama queen, I'll stay with Alistair and swoon over his good sides ... and the darkness underneath. Hrhrhr. Come to the dark side Alistair, we have cookies ... and lots of ale. ;-)

Edit: errant_knight is right, spare Loghain while in full romance with Alistair and roleplay afterwards a heartbroken, furious PC on her way through Fort Drakon with an unwilling and annoying Loghain in tow - still hoping Alistair may come back. Awesome.

I went wtf myself when it happened in-game to me as well. I thought I'd done everything right, but apparently you can't be merciful towards Loghain, that will kill the relationship, but would he say that straight out? nah, he'd rather adress the procreation issue ;-)

However, if you max out your coercion skills, and kill Loghain you don't have to harden Alistair if you want to either become queen or his mistress.

*spoiler*

The line at the Landsmeet, if you still want to live happily ever after with the sod, is, after the fight, to say something along the lines of "[persuade] Alistair will be king with me as queen beside him", with maxed coercion. When he comes to you afterwards, just ask him whether he's mad and he won't be and Bob, or rather Eamonn's your uncle. For an even happier ever after, take Morrigan's offer.

I'm on my third playthough w this tactic now, so it wasn't just a fluke. Right now I want to see how I can make Anora queen and have him Warden his heart out for ever happily after. Whilst I amuse myself w Zev on the side...

Except if you want a "happy ever after" and make him king, harden him (Unless you made him king for the power trip) cause soft Alistair doesn't want to be on the throne.  Hardened Al will accept the throne and do a much better job at being king.  Hell when the option came through to sieze at happiness on my first HNF I just grabbed it, even knowing it was going to be hard to produce an heir.  Alistair isn't going to propose.  WHEN in the game does the boy take the initiative for his own happiness at all? Its up to the player to do everything cause the game doesn't know you want to marry him.  Shows how immersive the game is when players who get dumped then get "revenge" in subsequent playthroughs by feeding him to the Archdemon (and other tortures lol).
Reading on the forums I have since learned its not just hard but nigh impossible for him (as a king they are going to want heirs to take the throne when he dies which isn't that far away timeline wise) to have children with a Warden wife.  *Shrug* I think there is the option to say "Good thing we started early" or maybe "It's not necessary".  Al can always make Teagan's or Eamon's future kids an heir.

Every time one of these threads comes up I always feel like I missed out by not making Alistair king on my first playthrough. He said to give the throne to Anora, so I did. By the time I got around to forcing the dump, I knew all about it and it only made me feel for him and not my PC. I managed to work up a nice, self-righteous lather afterwards but when I talked to him again I just wished I could reach into the computer and give him a hug. Stupid, sexy Alistair sad-face.

Now if he's romanced I prefer to remain his "bit on the side" (even if my PC is a HNF). When he's hardened, he's a better option as ruler than Anora but my PC's don't really want to be queen. And everything from post-Landsmeet Origins through Awakening indicates that he's just as committed to to a mistress as he is a queen (according to the DAA epilogues, maybe even moreso).
