That's actually very helpful. Cheer up everyone! It's not all bad; at least we're not Dwarves! No matter what we lose, we'll always have that.

Hey, feck you!

Dwarves are awesome. Suck my stone, elfboy.

David Gaider created the NPC of my dreams.

And put him in the romance of my nightmares.

Nightmare>Dream. I have never completed the Alistair romance.

So poetic.
I could almost shed a single tear.

Followed by a couple hundreds for what Gaider did with the Morrigan romance!

Oh come on, dwarves are awesome.

But Fergus is dead...or soon will be....I could be Teryna of Highever too... Nah on second thought Fergus reminds me too much of my OWN older brother, I can't hurt him. DAMN you Ejoslin I'm not listening to your logic lalalalalala not listening....

He could always refuse the throne like Bryce didn't fight Cailan for it when Maric died.

The Morrigan romance made me cry. Morrigan is my homegirl, I love her so hard. Even when she calls me "sister" on my female characters :(

Alistair to me is "first boyfriend" syndrome. He's the kind of guy you look up on facebook a few years after you break up and are all "oh, so he's King. Cool." Or, "oh, a wandering drunk. OK."

I hear that.  That has to be the saddest ending for a romance I think I have ever read since Romeo and Juliet.  At least Alistair fans can get to marry him, be his mistress or just not put him on the throne.  Though those all have their angsty moments it still beats out the pain of one last night with the swamp witch before she disappears with your demon baby forever.  I couldn't even finish the Morrigan romance knowing what was coming.  It hurt too much by the time she was in love with my PC and begging him to break it off with her.

Or in my case "Oh, that's Alistair's head impaled on a pike right next to my throne. I almost forgot about it". Image IPB

Well unlike your perspective on Alistair, I have tremendous sympathy for those whose PCs fell in love with Morrigan. It was a real heart twister.

But in the old DAO forums I was always pressing the case for someone EXACTLY like Alistair. I was a violent proponent of romanceables like him personality wise.

However I was also a big proponent of the world is horrid, but  the "PC should get some untarnished happiness before they go to their final calling" idea. I think the fact that both characters are integral to the fate of Ferelden and represented the dark world meant the romances simply couldn't have the happy endings I would have prefered for BOTH of them.

The closest I got was getting dumped in front of all my friends after Landsmeet (the heartless bastard). But that's fine with me, I have no interest in being a Coulsand queen - being a Cousland prince consort is more fun, and you get to bone Loghain's daughter.

My problem with Bioware romances is that I always fancy the one character who is not romanceable. *sigh*

I am mostly joking about Alistair, people shouldn't take it seriously.
I do sympathise with Alistair lovers. Except that most of them got a happy ending anyways.

I still wanna put Teagan on the throne. I've given it a LOT of thought and see...

1. Boot Anora out the window of the tower Al locks her in.
2. Either feed Alistair to the Archdemon (Or keep him unhardened so being king is akin to the hives)
3. Find that bottle of poison Jowan used and use it on Eamon (Or get my lil buddy Zev to assassinate him)

Leaving Teagan as the only one who can take the throne. They sure as hell won't put Isolde or her mage son on the throne...its doable? right? Right?

And imagine the benefits of being the king's mistress...Image IPB

You left out Fergus.  Teyrn of Highever would be more likely to get the throne.

Teagan for king! I sure wish there was an option to execute Anora, I don't like her much.

I think it's implied that hardened Alistair has Anora executed after he survives the Blight as when Anora thanks him for givin her a shot at the throne he says he won't execute her while he could die during the Blight as leaving Ferelden with no heir would be irresponsible. After, well...who knows, you might even get to watch.

What happy ending? Create a demon baby by pimping your comrade out or him dying?I don't know...that is not my definition of "untarnished happiness" but that is just me.

Besides, in my original post  I was just explaining that my reason for not continuing the Alistair romance beyond the first kiss was based on the fact that I knew what choices were coming (my client spoiled me).

Thus, if people knew what was coming with Morrigan, some may have chosen not to go ahead with it, some would have thought the pain was worth it. I am the sort of person who thought- no way am I going to go through that choice. Even if Alistair had not been romanceable, I'd feel crappy about the dark ritual. That is just me. And if he is with you at that final archdemon moment, he doesn't even let you take the blow.

edit: I wanted to also state that I believe it made complete sense for the story to be this way. I just was expressing why I couldn't play it as that specific character.

Still a happy ending compared to what Morrigan romancers had. At least for now.
No one spoke of "untarnished happiness" (does that even exist? Even Bambi didn't get that ending).

And for me, Morrigan is worth the pain and depression. All of it. Image IPB

Yea that "we'll see" always gives me shivers.  DAMN I wish I could see the moment myself.  Or maybe she ends up once she has had a few days to think on it and forswears the throne after he gets back from stopping the Blight.  Either way she becomes a nonthreat.  I really can't imagine she would refuse with a cooler head if the choice is give the oath or go with a no head look. Not very attractive IMO and really what DO you wear with something like that to any social function?Image IPB

No, but given that you watched your family being slaughtered and are going to DIE anyway in the calling before you are 40, I *had* maintained that the romances could have been the one part of happiness in the PC's life where it didn't have to come with guilt strings attached. You get that with Zevran and Leliana. But not with the character I was the most vocal proponent of. That is cool. He was DG's baby and his to write the way that made sense given his vision of the character story..

I do not contest Morrigan's story is more tragic.

I imagine that after the Blight, Alistair would give her another chance to swear fealty before sending her to the block.  Whether she would take it or not, who knows.

Considering that Loghain wants to have you, Alistair, and Eamon executed if he wins the LM, it would certainly have been parity to execute both her and her father on the spot.  It's really a wonder Loghain doesn't want your whole party to get the axe.  Except for Dog.  Heh, maybe Dog would end up getting revenge for all of you.

You'll live a bit longer than that - more like 50 something if you were in your 20s (according to Alistair anyway). Not that it changes the suckiness of the Alistair romance, of course.

Before you're forty? I always thought it was late-forties to mid-fifties since you're supposed to have thirty years.

Well, my perfect Alistair romance would not include "this is a dark game so everything should end in tragedy" OR "why can't I become queen if I'm not a noble, I want to get married and have babiez." No queening, no painful break-ups, no untimely dying, sounds good -- oh wait, except for going Deep Roads and fight to the death or become insane.

Well, that said, my little mage would still rather be a Grey Warden than a queen, and I always figured that goes for Alistair as well (er, rather than be king... not queen ;)

Dog was awesome.  I still think they should have let me have HIM duel Loghain at the Landsmeet.  My PCs thought that was about as serious as she was taking all that crap at that point.  Would have been the perfect snub to them all.

Oh well I think he'd make a great queen! He did say that he would put on a pretty dress and dance just for me. ^_^

But, I hated my fist play romancing Alistair. I must have done that Landsmeet 3 times before I was like "screw it, Alistair you're not gonna be king; you're mine!"

Might I point out that all of these "whiners" defeated the Archdemon and stopped the Blight.  So what is your point? Does it matter what they say after the thing is over as long as they effectively dealt with the threat?

What's wrong with needing a hug? Even Wardens need hugs every once and awhile!

Ohh, yes, that's what we all are.  Fortunately there are others to save the world in a much more macho way.

I'm an aardvark, fierce and free!
I'm an aardvark, standing bravely!
I'm an aardvark
And I'm tough and smart and strong
And always right
And that's the way I'll always be ...

Until I meet another aardvark
Who's bigger than me!
