Does anyone here still play KotOR?

KotOR, despite it not being BioWare's sleekest or most popular game, still is my favourite.

Everyone seems to have forgotten about it, with Mass Effect and Dragon Age on the scene, which is pretty sad; it's definately a game that more than compensates for it's outdated aspects- and the plot, characters, and universe is sublime. And there is the modding community; There are lots of decent mods for KotOR out there, and there is a full-on expansion pack  made by the community which rivals the main game in it's brilliance.

Does anyone still play it? Or am I just afflicted with nostalgia?

absolutely. one thing i love about kotor is how detailed the world and npcs are. at some point, bw devs made the design choice that there should be unidentified npcs, or at least, a larger amount of npcs that go unnamed and are not interactive at all.

personally i dislike this small design choice. i think looking at kotor compared to both ME games, ME level design often feels too big and unused. KOTOR feels like every area is filled with content. i think removing the small amount of details from each and every npc makes the world itself feel empty, and subsequently, less realistic.

I do every so often. It's my all time favorite game.

I'm teaching my son to play it

The cut scenes so far make him think he is going to have to fight Revan, so he is pretty nervous about that. :)

I do, it is my favorite BioWare game! Everytime I think about it, I want to go play it again.

I would probably play it once in a while if I had my original XBox. I don't trust the backwards compatibility of the 360.

Try getting it on Steam, it sells for £7.

I was trying to play it last night, but I can only get 5 fps on this machine.

I had no idea about the fan expansion or KotOR mods. Once I get my PC up and running again, I'll give them a go.

Well I still have my XBox, but I left it at my parent's place when I moved out because I thought I wouldn't play on it that much anymore. And I continuesly forget to bring it back to my place Posted Image

I still keep my saves from the first playthrough. Working script for comics project featuring DS Male!Revan. Still hope for Team Gizka finish their job on The Sith Lords Restoration Project. Still hope someone, somewhere will come up with an idea of KotOR 3.

Definitely, one of my favourite (if not the favourite one) games ever made.

I'd play it on my PC if I could get it to stop crashing on me as often as it does.

I just played Kotor 1 fairly recently actually. Loved it.

I'm currently playing Kotor 2, which is still pretty good even though it's made by Obsidian. And there is a restored content project completed. They just didn't change quite as much as Team Gizka planned to.

If anyone is having trouble using the game with Windows 7/ Vista, like I did, there is a fix, it also works with KotOR 2.

Taken from the LucasForums

1. Insert the install disk.

2. Open up My Compute, right-click the disc drive and click Explore.

3. Find the file called setup.exe>Right-click>Properties>Click the tab labelled Compatibility>Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows XP Service Pack 2(SP2)

4. Go farther down and also select, "Run as Administrator". In order to install KotOR, you require administrator privileges for the duration of installation to start-up. Playing it without this causes failure to launch. (If you are already logged in as an admin, this option may be grayed out.)

5. Run setup.exe. Select continue, and install as you normally would.

6. Download this file.

7. Copy and Paste it into the file directory, Replace the other file.

8. Create a direct shortcut to swkotor.exe, the launcher doesn't work on Windows 7/Vista

9. Run the game as administrator, in compatibility mode for Windows XP Service Pack 2.

10. In the Character Creator and the Endar Spire level, there will be a high chance of crashes. Persist and you will get you through that, quick saves can make things a lot easier.

11. Quick Save often, and enjoy the game!

I just watched the Star Wars original trilogy and immediately wanted to play KotOR (ironically that it works that way around, huh? ). I'll need to go install it and see if it will run on my new system. Heh.

Heh, I'm doing the same... just finished off the first KOTOR again a few months back. Just got my light saber in KOTOR2, silver crystal double bladed saber for the win. Posted Image

I haven't played it in sometime but I did love the game.  Just so many games out today that have no time to play and replay them all again :P

Between KotOR 1 and 2, I easily spent more time with KotOR 2. It was a superior game, despite being horribly unfinished.
