Ultimately the event is a success in my eyes. I have been on the fence on whether or not this event was really a good thing. but I was also sort of being snobbish about being a member of this community. I do think some people who participated are carpetbaggers and will vanish, but I also think some will stay and become active members. The community has grown because of the Bazaar. Bioware gave away 600k in gear which is great publicity. The referall links, while one of the most sore subjects of discussion, successfully promoted Bioware. And most importantly, members of the community really have won the great prizes that were promised.

I guess i've just reached the conclusion that in order for Bioware to be able to give away 600k in free swag the Bazaar had to generate hype and publicity for Bioware and sponsors. The more I focus on BW giving away 600k of swag the harder it is for me to hold a grudge about how they had to do it. So, Thank you Bioware for the Bazaar.

This.

Also, folks, the assertion that everyone who won something were either cheaters or not "real" fans of Bioware comes off as a bit insulting. And yes, a lot of winners *are* community members. I looked through the previous auctions and recognized a lot of the winners from the forums here. But face it-- some Bioware fans just might not be interested in chatting it up in forums. Some people are just like that. Doesn't make them any less deserving.

Spend some time in the auction thread. It's full of community members cheering each other on and helping each other out. I saw bidders back-out of certain auctions in order to generously allow another community member to take the lead. It was fun to see people win, to see the rest of the community offer their goodwill and congrats, even if they had been competing against each other. Winners stuck around to help out others with clicks to their referral links.

So pardon if I get a little irked that the winners are all being labeled as exploiters, money-grubbers, and not "true members of the community."

That is all.

Spending time in the auction thread when some of us can't go there..ie: go to bid or participate..doesn't make much sense.

And asserting that there were no cheaters isn't exactly the truth..there were.  Hence removal of tokens gained the "wrong way".

What we mostly are saying here..bottom line is there has to be a better way of conducting this "bazaar".

And..anyone that doesn't have 10k tokens or more..doesn't stand a chance of bidding.   Thats just how it is.   Don't need to live in the auction thread to know that much.

I'll disagree here, I think they make great games. Their intention here to make everyone happy? I don't think so. I think thats cover story- really what it boils down to is advertising. Usually always does.

I don't consider the higher ups a part BioWare, so your point is moot.

I am not so much blaming anyone, but rather just being pissed off at all the spam flooding through the forums like some advertising site. Did you even read my post? I didn't even blame you or any other Biowarian, Chris.

I am also Australian.

Sorry but when you say "higher ups" who are you refering to? Are you refering to EA or Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk?

I know it is easy to point the finger at EA and blame them for everything Bioware does wrong but do you really think EA had that much influence over this? It is funny because in the fans eyes Bioware can do no wrong and any mistake they make is an evil plot by EA to run the company into the ground. Grow up, Bioware is still a company whos goal is to make money, sure EA might have a very slight influence over their product and production deadlines but ultimately Bioware still makes its own decisions and this farce they call an auction was one of them.

Also the Auction was quite the success, sure they pissed off a lot of fans but they also saved one hell of a lot of money on advertising.

I just hate that I posted in lots of link sharing threads here while clicking everyone's links but only got 140 tokens for my trouble over a period of an entire week. Despite actually trying to gain tokens I end up with 6090 and no chance at even making anything other than the opening bid.

Whats worse is that other than pageviews I doubt Bioware benefited much from this whole "Referral Auction."

Reading through this topic, I see that so many people have truly missed the point. This bazaar was an utter failure for fans. Why? That's simple to sum up:

1. A VAST majority of the fans on this site couldn't even PARTICIPATE. Let me reiterate that point; those spammers/cheaters/followers/trollers who accumulated so many points made it so that no one else but those who were the same could take part in this. This is what made this so called "auction" a failure. 95% of the auctions I saw were over in less than 15 seconds. 4% in less than 30 seconds. The other 1% was what everyone referred to as "sniping" as they swooped in last few seconds.

2. Reference linking in the first place created a disparity between who could legitimately participate and who could not. I am an introvert (please note, this does NOT mean I am anti-social - it simply means I prefer having a smaller circle of friends which a large amount of people do as well) and so I don't have huge numbers in terms of "digital friends". Why does this matter? Because it automatically singles me out as someone who won't be able to participate. THE ONLY WAY TO HAVE MADE ENOUGH POINTS TO PARTICIPATE IS GETTING A HUGE NUMBER OF CLICKS ON REFERRAL LINKS (capitalized for stress). Why should I not have an equal chance at participating in a FAN LOYALTY event just because I don't have the "golden" personality or "digital friends" to make me viable?

3. What really makes me upset is that Bioware said this was specifically for loyal fans and to show their appreciation. I want to break this one down into two parts: a) IF Bioware was lying and this was simply a promotion for cheap advertising, then they should have stated that. I feel lied to as a loyal customer and fan for well over a decade. B) IF Bioware wasn't lying, then they truly threw their logic out the window when they decided to implement the Bazaar in this fashion and allow people, who may or may not have ever purchased legally or simply torrented their games, where they could win and cause someone who has supported them so long not to even have a chance to take part in this.

As was discussed the first day of the bazaar, when people saw how the unfair disparity was already arising, there were a multitude of ways that Bioware could have structured this bazaar in the best interest of the fans. They did not do so. Instead, I feel cheated and left out.

I will be perfectly honest: I would have had a much better disposition toward this event if I could have simply participated a few times. Instead I knew this was going to be a bull**** event the moment the bazaar started and the first auction shot up to 10000 points in less than 6 seconds.

I agree I thought all this time of enjoying biowares games and coming to this site would be nice, I've been a member of both the Social, and the Neverwinter nights forums. I don't post much simply because I don't have much to say, but I've always thought that when i saw a title produced by bioware I'd likely stand a pretty good chance of picking it up. This contest should have been about giving something back to fans. Instead it turned into a cheap advertising-fest. I would have prefered this contest never saw the light of day.

Also, another thought that someone else mentioned is that if this event was for the fans, Bioware should allow those of us who didn't win anything (at all) to convert our unused points into points for purchasing DLC. That would be an extremely decent way to apologize to some of their fans for this atrocity. The points could be converted at a reasonable rate and cap at 8000 points or so it wouldn't be "bank breaking". I see that option as a very decent way of saying thank you to their fans.

I can sympathize with the angry people(especially the ones that didn't find out about the Bazaar until multiple days after the token gathering started), but I, for one, greatly appreciate the opportunity I was given to win games from this company. Sure I may be a little biased because I did get something, but I personally don't have the available cashflow to afford every big game that comes out so something like this was a great opportunity for me.

I can understand how the loads of spam flooding basically every thread was more than a little annoying, especially for those not able to participate for the reasons of either too little points or being in an area where winning was not allowed, but hopefully the forum will calm down and some actually decent new members will come from this.

1. Bioware POSSIBLY saved money on ads for this, though I don't think they intended that as the main purpose of the contest.

2. I'm sure Bioware didn't intend to offend those who are offended, as this was supposed to be a celebration. With the community previously divided over the US versus international promotion, I'm sure Bioware didn't mean to further divide the community of US fans against them too. That would be stupid.

3. I'm sure Bioware will organize future contests that include everyone and in possibly a different format to make everyone happy again, and everyone will forget about this one, so forgive and forget. Even if it's biased towards some individuals, it was free, and there's no need to blow this out of proportion.

And before you say anything, no I didn't win anything. While I understand what many others feel when losing a contest that it leaves an empty feeling inside that you tried and it was almost within reach, but it just wasn't enough, I don't think it's necessarily anyone's direct or intentional fault. It's a free contest, and much about contests require luck, so can we have less complaining?

Oh, and those who won something need not apply to this thread; you can't ENTIRELY honestly say you know exactly what they're talking about, as some people have put much effort, but slightly less than you, into it. Some people have made pretty creative responses to challenges, but didn't win; some people posted on lots of forums or social networking, but didn't get lots of clicks. Some also have more friends than others on Facebook or Twitter. Everyone requires the same amount of effort to make a post, so you shouldn't really bash them for "not enough effort." I think some of them are upset over that categorization. You should instead congratulate the winners, and thank everyone else for their effort.

And I agree, some people should have kept the link posting in the original threads as Chris requested. The thread hijacking some of them had been doing was a bit irritating.

I hope Bioware makes it up for those who were left out, such as those internationally and (if what I hear is correct) those in certain US states.
