I imagine some of them will stick around. In my game Miranda quit Cerberus, where else would she go? Jacob will probably stay as well. I see Samara returning to the code and leaving, and I doubt Thane will be around unless there's a way to cure him (which I hope there is). Just some random ideas.

This make sense as ME is a game, but looking just to the history, most of the character have no reasons to leave the Normandy, no reason at all. Tali, Garrus and Miranda, for example.

Ah, but they could make up a lame ass excuse for any of them.  That's easy...they did it for the ME1 characters.

Besides, these ME2 characters have their own lives to get back to after helping with the suicide mission (which is all they signed on for, save Miranda).  They can't follow Shepard around like a lost puppy.  That's selfish of Shepard to expect that of them :P

I'd be surprised if Miranda isn't back as a squad mate, but the rest?  Doubtful.  They'll have a cameo.

True. I guess most will (if alive) will "just" have a cameo.
I think the only ones that will reappear as squaddie will be: Miranda, Garrus, Tali. Perhaps Grunt and Jack (but that is just my feeling xD)

For all of the people wanting returns of squadmates from ME2 into ME3, it just doesn't make sense, at least not with a HUGE leap-of-faith in a total change of past events.

Because it's possible for any and all squadmates to die in the suicide mission, there will have to be scenerios where you import a game with any and all of them dead.  If a large chunk of the squadmates in ME3 are from ME2, and they play important roles in ME3, that would be cutting out WAY too much of the game, too much wasted voice acting, etc.

TL;DR, ME2 squadmates should return in ME3, but they will be minor, not squadmates (1 or 2 at MOST)

So you are thinking we will have Kaidan/Ashley and Liara plus new squadmates for ME3?

This is facetious, yes?  "Sorry Shepard, I understand that you are going to go defeat horrible creatures out to destroy all life as we know it, including mine, but I got stuff to do.  Ciao."

We'll just have an entire squad made up of Steve Blum as he is the returning favorite from Origins

Yeah, looks like BioWare dig themselves a deep bear trap with this talimance fan service. But they'll have to detach from it one day. Or do you expect them to continue to make games about Tali indefinitely?

I'm mocking the reply most ME1 squad mate haters gave to posters like myself when we were upset after hearing that our favorite ME1 squad mates wouldn't be returning in ME2.

'They helped you but have other things to do and can't follow you around for the rest of their lives so stop being selfish!!'

Don't worry, Steve Blum will be playing Liara too.

this depends entirely on how you play. all run throughs will lose at least one character (or none if your that good!) So logically they will be replaced by older characters or newer ones.

I don't think the normandy will be blown up again (I hope)

characters that may leave normandy are:

Legion (back to his people)

Grunt (has obligations to other krogan to mate etc...)

Thane(Is an assasin and is dying anyway)

Zaeed (Probably hates you depends on walkthrough or he betrays you in some way)

those who stay:

Garrus

Miranda

Tali

Jacob (maybe)

Mordin

It's very possible for them to return. Bioware doesn't have to make billions of lines of dialogue for them, make loyalty missions, that kind of stuff. They just have to make some basic dialogue, rework them for the new system and you have them back. Hell, they could make them have the Zaeed/Kasumi style of dialogue on ME2 for ME3 if they wanted.

I really believe they are gonna give a basic 6 men squad and the rest will be returning characters. And I highly think in some mission you're gonna have "special guests" as squad mates with you. Like a mission in Tuchanka where you have Wrex (or his brother) and maybe Grunt, or on Earth you have Ash/Kaidan, Citadel you have Koyalt (do it Bioware! lol), etc. It would be cool.

I doubt Legion would leave. I'm not sure if I missed something but, why would Legion join up with Shepard after a 2 year search and then just leave? I think in ME3 he'll play some sort of ambassador role to make peace with the Quarians. Of course this is all just my opinion.

I could see why Zaeed and Thane would leave, but Grunt? Meh, who knows you may be right, he does have a big role to play on Tuchanka for sure. But I doubt he'll be leaving, after all Shepard is the battlemaster of all battlemasters in his eyes.

What about Jack? Do you guys think she would leave or stay?

Dear god no. Temporary characters are the bane of JRPGs and I have no desire to see that repeated in ME3.

If you're with me, you're with me to stay damnit.

Well...characters that temporary are alright.  I didn't really have strong feelings about him in the 15 seconds he was in the group.

This.

okay this is probably really going to make alot of people hate me, like the talimancers (hey i love tali too, but bioware is sadistic).

The way i see it there is a 70% chance that all team members (who are alive of course) will be returning. However whether they are an NPC or recruitable team member will differ by person, and hopefully decisions you make. For example, if Tali is exiled then where will she go, honestly? but if not, she may show up on the admiralty board, as was hinted at in conversation with her, leaving her as an NPC. While with someone like Garrus, where is he going? Im about 90% sure he will return as a teammember, barring the 30% which i will discuss in a moment. Downloaded characters will likely be left out, i dont see them coming back, unless you pay Zaeed some more money, but who would do that?

Now for that last 30%, the part that will ****** you off. After mass effect 1 i realized that bioware truly does like seeing the people that play their games squirm with pain. They took away all love interest possiblities, because they could. What is to stop them from doing this in ME3? But, this is about 90% of the team, so say goodbye to: Tali, Garrus, Jacob, Miranda, Thane, Ashley/Kaiden, and Liara. As i stated later they could be NPC's, but because BioWare is just fun this way, i give a 30% chance that they flip a 180 from killing YOU at the beginning of the game, and instead just kill ALL OF YOUR TEAMMATES. Oh yes, i know many of you are putting my name on a dartboard for saying that (talimancers), but i dont see why they wouldnt, they definately set alot of the characters up. Tali (if romanced) made it very, VERY clear that she could die if you two...you know. Thane says he is dying (his death is about a 90% between games). And they can probably add random reasons for the others to die (garrus gets infected from injuries and dies, samara dies of old age, i shoot legion out the airlock, etc. etc.).

And M(SPOILERS), and Jory, and Daveth, and (Guy from KOTOR), and Human Noble mother/guard, and Tamlen, and other chick I can't remember, and your cousin, and Jowan, and Gorim, and Leske

Hey I think Jade Empire might have averted this trend :bandit:
