Hello all,
I *think* I've already improved my frame rate/details by excludig DAO from QuicKeys, Spell Catcher, and Default Folder (all things which reach their ugly mitts into other apps), but I was wondering: would it be worth it to install Win7 and try it under that?
Environment: MacBook Pro 17@2.5ghz (Early 2008)/1920x1200 Glossy/512MB VRAM/1000GB/6GB/MacOS X 10.6.3.
Also, which is faster/more responsive? Could anyone rank them?
Win7 Bootcamp
Mac Native
Win7 Parallels
That's the order I would expect them to be in, but one never knows.
-- Thanks, Verne
P.S. I've just read on this forum that you only need one license to play on the Mac and PC - I inadvertantly bought the Deluxe Mac version (www.direct2drive.com) *and* the PC Deluxe version (www.ea.com) after buying the PS3 version. Should I apply for a refund for EA?

I think that you have the rankings correct on the speed of various versions. Running the PC version under Win7 is going to be a huge boost. I don't think that you can return digital download software anywhere, and definitely not with EA. But you should be able to sell it. And it is not a used copy as you have the unused codes for Stone Prisoner and Warden's Keep.

Win 7 bootcamp if you can stomach the rebooting runs great on my current gen white macbook (with 4gRAM) those specs you posted however make me think it will run even more beautifully on your comp. There's definitely a difference in speed as well as playable quality settings (i.e. I have lower texture settings on the Mac side than I do PC so that I don't get strobe light/silent movie playability)
as far as returning I would point out that we don't know if this one license thing is "working as intended" or just a happy glitch that could stop at any time... ya know once they actually pay any attention to Mac users. So going to EA likely won't be fruitful, especially since you bought the different versions from different retailers. I'd go with Welnic's advice and sell your PC copy if you can. Then just get the download version from EA with your Mac key.

Whew ... boy does it run under WIn7 Boot Camp.
It seems to have the same choppiness on the Mac at 1024x600 with Frame Buffer effects off as it does under Boot Camp at full 1920x1200 with Frame Buffer effects turned on.
I didn't expect that kind of performance from a two year old machine! ... and this with a terrabyte drive that only cranks at 5200 RPM.

I've been using bootcamp for a while, had XP then Vista.ilkelma wrote...

Just wondering what this comment refers to...
Whenever I boot into Windows I get a wall of text talking about unrecognised partions. I didn't get this under XP. I understand that it's related to the formatting of the HDD and the differences between Mac and Windows.
Does this happen for everyone?
And... is there anyway of getting rid of it?
I'm not concerned so much with a technical explanation, I understand it well enough, more with any way to get rid of the warnings.
Thanks.
