Australians FTW!

Also, what about those Scottish engineers on the engineering deck in ME2?

I suppose across all games there may be more American voice actors (we do know how to get out of hard work), but I definitely hear a lot of Canadian accents in BioWare games.  I'd say the "American" accents most people identify are actually a 50/50 mix American/Canadian.  Maybe being from a border region allows me to hear the difference.  Unless of course people want to generalize that "all you North Americans sound alike."  ;)

Um... I can name 4 non-American European accents off the top of my head: Miranda, the engineer, Chakwas and Zaeed. There are also quite a few other regions represented in the game such as Japan and with the new DLC whatever that accent was... but still, they're there.

The game is American, right? That means most characters are going to have American accents. Most people don't want to hear some European guy try to speak english. I would personally find it kind of annoying having to crank up the volume because some Dutch guy is trying to explain whats going on. No offense to Dutch people or Europeans.

1. Bioware's Canadian. But, that's just a fact to know before you're beaten to exhaustion by posters here.

2. There are already people in the game that voiced different accents (eg Dr. Michel, Dr. Chakwas, Yaroslev Tartakovsky, Miranda Lawson, Tali'Zorah, Samesh Bhatia, Donovan Hock, etc.). It's a (pseudo) progressive universe.

3. Do you think Bioware's going to include an NPC with a heavy, nigh incomprehensible accent?

4. Speaking for yourself about foreign accents.

Me too as well! It's kind of annoying to keep hearing American accents throughout games in general. I think a Dutch character could be rather entertaining?

lol, remember Sudeki? There was one character with an incredibly annoying Dutch accent, ugh! But maybe it was more noticable for me because I'm Dutch myself.

But other European accents are fine, as long as they're done well, i.e. not the kind of French or German we hear in 'Allo 'Allo.

As a Dutchman, I'd like to not hear any fellow Dutchmen and our usually awful accents.

I'd like some more Brits though.

South African.

And, uh, you guys are all forgetting Zaeed. Hello?!

South African accent would be pretty sweet! Have you played Far Cry 2 before? It's pretty awesome to hear your
rarely-spoken-outside-the-country language in a game...

I want to see more blended races. I would think that straight up caucasians would be a minority. 1 billion Chinese in the world today with 6 billion making up the rest of the population makes me wonder why there are so many white folks running around.

Actually, I think ME1 wasn't bad at that... it's hard to pin Kaidan Alenko and Udina down to a certain ethnicity, name and face-wise.

Actually, Jaroslev Tartakovsky (Jarosław Tartakowski) was Polish, owing to -ski in the end of his name. Whoever has it, is Polish to be honest.

Quarians don't speak with eastern European accents, but arabic, it ain't difficult to differ.

I had main characters on mind, another human (man or woman) from Eastern Europe. It could be fun!

If you can't handle a little accent turn on the subtitles.

You should've read my post to the end, my friend :) Not only Greece ain't from Eastern Europe, but Croatia and Serbia as well; they're Balkan States, which includes also Montenegro, Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania, Bosnia&Herzegovina and Bulgaria. That is why I was writing about SOUTHERN Europe :)

True. Only when you can't hear he's from the Netherlands, it's pleasant to listen to a Dutchman speaking English. Otherwise you'll just end up with 'steenkolenengels' (or Dunglish, as it seems to be called) and that's something you should not want.

Although many Americans seem to believe that the Dutch actually speak with a Russian accent when talking in English. So a Russian cheese/tulip/windmill/bike salesman on Illium would be kinda nice, I guess.

I think the aliens pretty much cover all the different accents. Example: the quarians sound E. European to me with some exception. The hanar sound french with some voice modulation though that might just be the voice actor. Some of the asari (liara specifically) sound slightly british, again with voice mod. Looking at the last names of the voice actors it seems like they have alot of different accents for aliens but I think the voice modulation they employ makes it difficult to tell.

I think its boring overall that u never get to hear the alien language.. its an irritating miss from bioware, and concider that the humans is one of the newest races to discover the citadel and all that then its pretty unlikely every alien starts speeking english...

Sometimes subtitles ruin the game. I can read what happens before it is shown on the screen.

I am very aware that Bioware is Canadian. I myself am Canadian. I'm talking about Mass Effect itself.
The game has a lot of American influence.
I am not negating the fact that there are no foregin accents. I am simply saying that the majority of people don't want accents they can't understand.

What you need is a Scottish vanguard style character in a traditional kilt and sporran who likes to gie folk a Scottish kiss (i.e. head-butts enemies) whilst issuing forth much profanity.

Basically your average Friday night out in Glasgow!
