Changing gamertag affecting profile character data

I was just wondering if changing my xbox live gamertag should affect data on my characters, like levels, equipment, and etc.  Even though the site updates recent achievements earned, it still says that my character is level 3, only shows his starting equipment, and it also says that he was last updated on 2/12. 

I just recently started playing the game again (about a week ago) and atm he is level 7 and just finished everything in Lothering, but aside from my character portrait and achievements, my player profile page will only display my old gamertag and old character data from 2/12, and won't update equipment, levels, xp, kills, etc.

Is the only fix to change my gamertag back to my old one, which I misspelled and don't want to use, or might the problem resolve itself over time?  If anything, I just want my character portrait to show my character in something other than the leather armor he began the game with.
