Further, since AFAIK, Bioware has never been particularly forthcoming about their patching procedures, schedules, priorites, anything -- then all that such a collection proposal would lead toward was user frustration.
The archives are all there. You can read them on the Legacy forums. They have literally always been uncommunicative after the fact comared to before releases, as far back as I have direct experience with (NWN-1).

It's a common misconception that later versions of DirectX are backward compatible. This was true until DirectX 10 was released. Since then DirectX has basically had basic backward compatibility emulation.
If your PC had DirectX 9.0c (November 2007) on it and you later upgraded, you probably don't need to worry about DirectX as upgrades usually leave the old DLL's intact while adding the new version. You also don't need to worry about it if you allowed DA:O to install DirectX 9.0c when you first installed the game.
If, however, your PC has a clean install of any version of DirectX that is later than 9.0c (and you didn't select the option to install 9.0c when you installed DA:O), its worth adding 9.0c to your system. DON'T try uninstalling your current version (thats not necessary and can cause instability) - you just want to add the 9.0c runtimes to support the game.
More info here: http://social.biowar...2604940#2605044
There are dozens of people here reporting that their systems have DirectX 11. A clean install of Win 7 gives that version and DA has problems if you don't add those DirectX 9.0c DLL's. The Win 7 DirectX compatibility just doesn't support DA fully.

This does nothing. I've installed the full developer redistributable, recent updates from the Direct X website and the Direct X version on the Dragon Age disk and the crashes persist regardless.
I'm sorry, but everything points to buggy code since disabling 3 cores fixes it for me.

I wasn't suggesting it would fix buggy code, but I was offering it as one aspect of PC setup that people need to be aware of, especially those who are having problems with DA:Origins (which runs far better on multiple cores than it does on a single core). Patch 1.03 is a different issue altogether.
For your crashes, have you looked at the Dragon Age event logs? DA crashes are detailed there so if its the game itself crashing its worth keeping an eye on the logs to see what is going on at the time it fails.

Memory: 4GB DDR2
Display: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GSO 768MB
Sound: Realtek High Definition Audio
Windows: Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium 64bit
DirectX: DirectX 11/ 9.0c
Versions: I assume you mean game versions. Origins Retail and 1.03
EDIT: Side note: The game isn't crashing. The performance is my issue. After 5-10 of playing, or during/after any combat, the game becomes unplayable. 1-2 FPS, sometimes zero FPS. I've actually almost beat the game by playing for 5-10 minutes and then quick saving. Constantly restarting the game is the only way I can play this game. Also, every other game I play works just fine...

The minimum is a 6600 GT, officially, but that was just so much Pie in the Sky Marketing BS (dreamdust).
Practically speaking, a 6800 was the real minimum Geforce, way above a tinker toy of a card like a 7400.
And modern laptops cannot be upgraded any more -- not for graphics or for CPU.
Windows XP Minimum Specifications
OS: Windows XP with SP3
CPU: Intel Core 2 Single (or equivalent) running at 1.6Ghz or greater
AMD 64 (or equivalent) running at 2.0Ghz or greater
RAM: 1 GB or more
DVD ROM (Physical copy)
20 GB HD space
Video: ATI Radeon X850 256MB or greater (either this is wrong)
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT 128MB or greater (or this one is wrong)
(Note: IMO, the practical choices for the two video cards above should be the Radeon X800 Pro, and the Geforce 6800 GS, at least, for small textures - it will take a Radeon X1650 XT (or X1800 GTO) for medium or better textures)
Video Card Rankings (DA: O):

Official Game Requirements are never covered / changed through patching. When you ignore the label on the box, there is no recourse. EA doesn't even support laptops with decent video.
About four months now, after the terrible patch 1.03 was released, and never withdrawn when it proved to be awful, we have a message from Victor that they may soon fix three bugs, out of the hundreds. Isn't that just marvelous?

There is one "annoyance button" that can often get a rise out of me. When you DEFEND the poor quality of any machine equipped with nothing better than Intel's bad excuse for video, I may get sarcastic / snappish . .
So far, with the two "current" Bioware games, I've been able to resist sarcasm and snappishness toward Bioware's own people, except for their practically nonexistent moderation in the DA forum here. Several times, in spite of reporting, in spite of sending PMs to moderators, bad messagers' nastiness has persisted literally for DAYS before they finally deigned to take notice.
At first, for this forum, I could depend on Euryterid to spot and correct such crap about as soon as I saw it myself. But he seems to have chose to withdraw from moderating, possibly because of nonsensical policies coming down from the top, however, I don't know that with certainty (he has added a comment in this forum for the first time in a week or so, after I posted this comment).
At first, I could send a PM to Euripterid or to Don Moar, and something would be done reasonably soon. I've known for many months that the "Report this post" and "Report this member" buttons were sending the comments to EA, which adds a delay loop to the notice.
When PMs to both of those moderators went unhandled, I gave up on them. But I have been critical about the bad job being done (not done) now in here.

Has anyone been blowing out the dust from their Desktops? When I mean "blow" , I mean using a compressed air can on the cpu fan and the other fans that you have in your Desktop. Before, I crashed so many times but after i cleaned it out my game was back to normal, 'cept for occasional lag...
Oh and one more thing:
On a muti-core CPU, one of the cores will shoot up to 100 % on ANY game, I've tested that with games not too long ago.
So whatever you do; Do use the set core affinity, It WILL f!@k up your CPU. Instead clean it out.
(Not for laptops, only desktops!)

to much of anything or not, was seemingly lost in the overall pain that patch 1.03 inflicted
upon so many gamers.

thought it might be the card type, so I bought another card for 30
dollars, filled out everything out (Correctly, again.) And it did the
same thing. Then, the second time trying it said ''The card expired''.
When I just bought it a hour ago -.-
Now, the cards were those
quick kind of ''gift cards'' that hold prepaid money. First a visa,
then a master card.
This has went on for 3 days now, and I am
desperation for help. (I REALLY want this game.)

standards, ending up somewhat above the minimum (practical) Geforce card, so anything other than
low/medium image quality settings at medium resolutions, or medium settings at low/medium
resolutions, is likely to be beyond the point at which it should be running?

Well, I crash to desktop like crazy with my Alienware M17x. Its running Vista 64, has 4gb ram and 280M cards in SLI. Its bad enough that I just have to set the game aside. Happens at seemingly random times as well. I've tried all sorts of different drivers, running on one core, reinstalling DirectX versions, running the utility that lets the game access larger memory space, and I still get crashes. The only time I haven't crashed is when I ran the game with sound disabled for an hour. However, I decided quickly that I can't run the game like that -- it's just not worth it and kills the game experience -- so I haven't tested that out further. Unfortunately, if sound is the problem, I don't have any updated sound drivers for my Alienware M17x.
Unfortunate, but please post the data requested in the first post of this topic, being the system information from relevant sections of the launcher->configure. Another question: does it also happen with SLI disabled and thus running on only 1 video card? If you determinded it is caused by the sound, could you maybe check if it also happens with only music or only special effects/voices enabled?

Already posted many times in the forums, so I assume they already have my info. SLI or no SLI has no effect. The crashes to desktop still happen sporadically. At most, if lucky, I can play for an hour before a crash. Other times, I'll crash every 5 minutes or so. Don't have any other games currently that perform like this.

If you are using a laptop, all bets are off, no matter the Dell series it's from.

The crashing seems to take less time as I play further in the game. I am finishing crime wave and then the final battle. I just purchased Awakening and hope I don't regret it. I have read it is unplayable for many people.
My system
AMD Phenom II x4 965 Black
6 Gb Ram
750 Gb HDD
ATI Radeon HD 5750 video card (I believe 1 Gb memory)
Windows 7 Professional
Built my system 3 months back so most if not all drivers are current.

If it's a Soundmax, look into an add on card (Soundmax is quite possible the root of all evil, and Dell rarely update the drivers). I think the main options are the X-Fi Go or Notebook, but they won't work with your internal speakers (great for headphones/external speakers). An alternative would be USB speakers/headphones, as they'll also bypass your current sound chip.
