One suggestion I'd make to you Bioware guys is, if you're not going to give us a new patch to address these issues anytime soon, at least take the 1.03 advertisement off the starting screen and the webpage. Or maybe just give a disclaimer on the download page to warn any Win7 users of the possible problems. I hate to think that people are getting lured in to downloading only to find all these problems, then coming here and concurring with all of us who've done the same.

Granted, it's kind of up to the player to read up on the forums about patches before committing to the download, but you know, most of us are impatient and "new" is usually synonymous in most people's minds with "better." Unfortunately, as we've all seen, this isn't the case here.

Sorry for going off topic...now back to posting system specs. :)

Similar issue with crashing after magic effects. 100%processor utilization whether it's 2 or 4 cores set for use for the game. Forgot to mention, zero crashes before patch 1.03 if that helps at all. Went straight from release to that patch.

Little update: I've had some CTD's while entering the chantry in Lothering. This however also happened occassionally before 1.03.

My specs are already somewhere in this thread.

I had random complete system lock ups/crashes since DAO was released and up to patch 1.02a I only got 30% through the game, at that point DAO burnt out my ATI 3870x2, may I point out that my 3870 had no issues with other more demanding games at that time.

Although I'm glade to see Bioware finally doing something about crashing issues I really didn't appreciate paying good money for a product only to end up in a minority group with an unplayable bug that gets ignored by you Bioware.

When I look at the different answers here I can't see how this should help to find the problems. There are all kinds of hardware and software and you can't see any similarities.

I ask myself if I should consider it as delaying tactics.

Since getting the game a few days ago, I've had trouble playing longer than 15-20 minutes before it crashes and says Dragon Age: Origins has stopped working. Although last night it did work for about 5 hours straight, but it's back to crashing today...

Edit: I've since set the affinity to one core only (CPU1 is that helps) and it seems to have completely cleared up all the problems...

I must add that I have experienced many crashes while simply moving my view quickly (kinda like circle strafing I guess). This occurs even when not in battle. It's like there's a sudden demand on video cache or a need for mass memory quickly and the engine just wets itself. NO OTHER GAME I PLAY has any similar problems, so I think my hardware is ok.

There is this random cracking sound I hear all the time when playing DA, it got worst when I patched to 1.03 and installed Awakening.

@MOTpoetryION High speed chirp is the scary sound (in my experience) of a hard drive slouching towards death.

gnaeeus silvanus stop playing this game now . my other gaming computer started to get the same thing a few others are having . a high pitch chirp then my system would freeze. totaly unresponsive

it happend more and more till it happened at the start screen of the game without the game running . And havent been able to get it working yet so it has already killed one of my gaming computers This has to have something to do with the poor coding in this game. like the mismanagment of memory and CPU useage. there has been many people where their multi core CPUs would be running maxed out at 100% also from just the start screen . Bioware says thats normale BS. i have never seen any game in my whole life ever come close to doing that . it seems also to be linked to their DLC and maybe their patches because its pretty bad when you have to patch your patches that is so pathetic

EVERYONE READ THIS http://social.biowar...58/index/600984

Hard drives do wear out.  IBM made quite a few, however, called Deskstars, that did so prematurely.  It happened so often that they were dubbed "Deathstars" by unhappy owners.  Hitachi now makes that Hdd brand.  They had a musical clicking noise that some people might refer to as a "chirp".   I've heard it from Maxtors as well as Deskstars over the years.

It is my opinion, based on well over thirty years of experience, that there has been no unusual usage of the storage systems on the PCs I've used here with these Bioware games.  I doubt that this software hastened the end of any Hdd's usable lifetime.

Thanks MOT, I did stop playing already because the constant crashes is unbearable now. Since its summer on my side of the planet, it is more prone to overheating now because of the constant 100% cpu usage even at the menu. Crisis didn't do that on my PC, The Witcher didn't either and Mass Effect 1 & 2 also.

Same specs as before - one additional piece of information:

Each of my four cores runs at around 50% load when the game is running (so in my case, at least, the CTD events are not caused by CPU overload) but the GPU is running around 90%.

Absolutely no crashes to date ... right up till the werewolves caves, when i move in to fight the small-ish dragon in a round chamber with traps in it ... as soon as the dragon decends .. the game freezes completely and i need to ctrl-alt-del to close it
Have tried tweaking settings lots, but its always crashing the exact same spot, when it decends and lands.. !!

Help or Suggestions appreciated :crying:
