Have been Magnum Opus for about 11 years of my online life, although in the early years I bounced around between that, "Beelzebubba" and "Nebuchednezzar"... I dropped that last one after seeing "Neb" in the BG series. Beelzebubba was supposed to be my "evil hick" persona, but that never really panned out.

MO is mostly a tongue-in-cheek reference to myself. If someone's Magnum Opus is a person's greatest creation... well... that ain't me in any aspect. :) I later realized that the initials for this handle coincided with my own middle and surname initials, so I felt a little smug about that for a second or two.

Mostly, though, it just kinda stuck. It's the name I used during my most active online phase, so it's the one I use.

Edit: Oh, almost forgot:  I also had a more recent stint as "Mithter Thibbs".  I kinda like that one, and even considered using it on a full time basis, but... have been MO for too long, I think.

To be honest, mine was invented over the course of about 4 minutes while trying to come up with a family name for a character in a book I was writing. It has no special meaning at all, but I like it and have taken to using it in many places. It actually spawned a couple of languages in my head to go with it. The name I was using before this was inspired by the Moose Shadow avatar in some Hoyle computer game. True story.

I was downloading the character creator, and on firefox in the bottom right corner it read "1 active download remaining". So Active_Download it was, first thing to come to mind.

Unfortunately, mine is little more than a piece of unconscious hackwork. I thought it was original when I signed up, but later I realized that "Amberyl" was an obscure character from a Dragonlance book (whose only crowning achievement in her otherwise tragically insignificant existence was to have an affair with uber-mage Raistlin Majere), and that "Ravenclaw" was obviously cribbed from the Harry Potter books. Still makes for an awesome combination though. And anyway, "Amber" was more or less my nickname IRL, so "Amberyl" can be considered its fantasy-world counterpart.

I have used this user name for quite some number of years now, on numerous sites although actually remember which site I used it on first. I love the Sharpe books and I thought that putting 'Leftenant' at the front made me sound incredibly British(which I am). However, I can't for the life of me remember why I abbreviated it to 'Leftnt', in the end I grew quite fond of the stupid abbreviation and have used it ever since.

Most people on Xbox Live still think it is my last name.

Wow, dramatic story around Mordaedil's name

I fancy picking old Norse names (using fjolvar on the old Bioware forums), most of them aren't very pretty but I like Nattfare. Have been told though that it means something like afraid of the night in Norweigan or Danish (might not have meant that back then though).

Neither dramatic nor epic I'm afraid. Still I don't want to take away Mordaedil's glory anyway, that would be impolite.:innocent:

The forums said my original name was taken. So in short...IDK. Seems a little out of place though.

Scoia derives from the Scoia'tael of The Witcher series, It's got a nice ring to it. It became my favourite stock fantasy name. Red is just a nickname I picked up in life and one I'm rather fond of.

lv12medic stands for "level 12 medic" and its been my forum/gaming tag for quite awhile. I got it from the Star Wars tabletop RPG, the first version that Wizards of the Coast which had a +20 heal check or whatever the heal skill's name was. also, practically everytime I play any tabletop RPG with friends, I'm usually the healer. So I'm now the designated RPG medic.

Ralsar and Ilsabet have been the name of my RPG characters ever since we first discovered D&D as children.

EDIT: Oh and how I came up with them... dunno guess they sounded good to me when I was little.

Back when I was much younger I read a book or series of books that I can't remember the title of. One of the villians was called Stagmar and being creative kid I was the stole that name to use for all my online stuff (though I did right a 200 page story about a man named Blizzard from an ice planet who used a sword named Deepercut also from those same books so I was creative, just not with names). I have since moved onto a slightly more creative name on everything but the Bioware site, but decided to carry the name over to here.

"Soteria" is the name of my mage in WoW and my current main character. When I registered on the DA boards and had to use a name, I just picked that one. Not realizing it was case-sensitive, I didn't capitalize the 's.' I'd actually kinda like to change my display name to something less specific, though. After all, Soteria is the name of one of my characters, and now I feel stuck posting with this avatar.

The name itself does have a meaning. It's a Greek word I picked up from a class in college a few years ago.

It was in the recesses of the early 90's where I needed an online handle. I wanted it to start with C and be something I havent seen before. Ciller (Sil - er) was born and has been my handle ever since. All other ciller's out there are impostors.

It is not wise to have ones first and middle name as any sort of identifier of yourself online.  Not wise.

Whenever I see Ciller I can't help but think of the actor Cillian Murphy, who played the villain Scarecrow in Batman Begins. He has this gaunt, fragile and mildly creepy look about him, heh. Sorry. :P

Mine came from how I first started playing RPG. I hate playing any other class but fighters so druid, mage, cleric, theif all went take a hike. And back then most RPG has swords as the principal weapon for fighters, sure you can a harberd here, a flail there ...etc... but most of the time sword stands out as the most powerful and most varied.

Made this screen name back then, and stuck with it until now just for nostalgia shake. Also its variant save me the headache when I can not come up with a name for my PC (which usually the case). So fighter - mightysword. ranger - mightybow. Mage-mightymind. Druid - mightytree and so on.
