My RL name is Christakis but many registration mechanisms object to the first 6 letters of that name, so I changed it to use a K.

Well it all started as my Warcraft III account name... which it still is. And it's also my name for... well, everything.

Hmm. I've recounted this a couple of times on the Bioware O-T forum, but here goes again:

Many years ago, I was driving though North-central Saskatchewan, on my way home (or perhaps back, I can never remember) and was listening to the radio. All I could get at the time was the CBC. They had a radio play, the specifics of which also escape me, and one of the characters in the play represented a company called "Origami Digital," which I thought was one of the coolest names I'd ever heard. When it came time to sign up on the Bioware forum, I naturally got it backwards, and called myself DigitalOrigami.

dubsaves is short for onlydubwillsaveyou - refers to dub reggae like Lee "Scratch" Perry and dub as in a electronic dance track without the vocals, a dub mix of a track

Originally wanted my online handle to be Crusader, obviously this name is almost never available and I hate having numbers at the end of my name so I messed with the spelling and thus it came to be my name.

I sympathize with ya. My memory is also subpar. Image IPB

My name is a tribute of sorts to a brother of mine by the name of Tony. Not sure how it helped him get into the right mindset but anytime we were in a hostle situation he would say "wake the children!'

Wow, dramatic story around Mordaedil's name
Thanks. B)

I fancy picking old Norse names (using fjolvar on the old Bioware forums), most of them aren't very pretty but I like Nattfare. Have been told though that it means something like afraid of the night in Norweigan or Danish (might not have meant that back then though).
Nattfare means "Night Danger" or "danger at night". "Natt" is night and "fare" is danger.
Nattfare wrote...

Neither dramatic nor epic I'm afraid. Still I don't want to take away Mordaedil's glory anyway, that would be impolite.:innocent:
Oh please, if you could produce something interesting and fun to read, by all means, don't be afraid to take the spotlight.

I don't know if you noticed, but most peoples stories about how they got their username kinda suck. :P

And technically, my story is true, even though it is technically the same story that Dennis Carpenter told, I decided to tell it from a more "on-top" perspective, sort of a history of how the name came to be "discovered".

It's technically not 'me' in the story, but it is infact my name itself.

It is not wise to have ones first and middle name as any sort of identifier of yourself online.  Not wise.

Hmm i believe this to be wise advice ha, I'll make sure to follow it in the future. I just need to find myself a good solid gaming handle :/

My name has a long history by now. It all started in 2000 with the coming of C&C Tiberium Sun Firestorm. I started playing it online and found a group of interesting people playing the game and started talking with them and playing games with them. At some point i asked if i was allowed to join their clan. The clan was called DaJoint. I was allowed in and had to choose a nick to sign up in the clan and it had to start with Joint. (kinda like a tag) Before i joined that clan i also played with the nick VWmaniak since i was a fan of beetles and buggy's. So when i had to choose my nick i Decided in the end on JointVW. That nickname now is about 9 years old. In that time i used a few other nicknames but still mostly used JointVW.

Well Geej is a shortened version of my full name that I picked up as a nickname back in 96 the agent part got stuck on after a paticular gag went down well.

Stuck the two together the first time I saw the question for a forum/game name and used it ever since.

Well... it Should be Slots, but EA and some other places either had it taken (Rarely happens) or it was too short. Had a couple of places think it was linked to gambling (reasonable but not where I got it from). So I rearranged the letters, droped an S and stuck on a K and an I.

When I first started with a gaming handle playing TFC it was originally -=Empty_Slot=- to emulate the save spaces in Fallout 2. I soon realized it was too long and really damn obnoxious (I was 12-13 when I came up with it. Surprised I didn't stick X's anywhere.) I shortened it to Slots shortly after and have been using it since then.

I picked up this rather unoriginal nickname decades ago (when i thought it would sound cool<_<), mainly for forum use. Never felt like changing since then, for my forums are endless and my memory is lacking. Hard enough to remember every password.

Another long time nick of mine would be 'Held der Arbeit', but only people who understand german (and preferably also know a bit of the history of the former communist eastern part) would get the joke.
So for international forums i'll stick with this one

Figured it could be danger as it is "fara" in Swedish, fara also means go/travel though.

Thanks for clearing up the fare part Mordaedil, I appreciate it. =]

Well mine actually used to be my wow account name before i got out of that soul sucking pit of despair. :P

As ive had a bioware account for quite a while i used the name cause it was easy to remember.

Though now i kinda wish id come up with a new one considering the amount of time ive been spending here, as this ones quite uninspired.

Yeah, I believe it's either danish or norwegian, since "fara" doesn't change to "fare" at any point in swedish.

The first time I needed to join a gaming board, every name I could think of was already taken. In desperation, I used the name I'd invented for an obscure character - Proleric, the dungeon builder in Enigma Island who fell foul of the evil cult. Life imitates art, I guess.Image IPB

Mine's kinda boring. I have some fluffy snowball christmas tree decorations that I'd hang from the ceiling at Christmas. It became an in-joke with my friends that they were actually amoebas. And I couldn't think of a fantasy-RPG character name when signing up for the bioboards...
