Should I just uninstall now? Or is there some way to save them both?
I *will not* continue without my human squad.

2. Ashley and Kaiden have been my squad since Eden Prime. Aside from hating ugly characers, i do like to roleplay with them. Originally, that was the whole point of *roleplaying games*, wasn't it?
Kaiden is my romance interest, and Ashley is like my best friend. The fact that bioware gives you NO option to talk you way out of sending either of them with the salarians, and NO option of avoiding the scene alltogether kind of destroys the RP sense of the game for me. There's no way my character would ever sacrifice one of her closest friends to a suicide mission.
I don't care if you can have a squad of 10 humans in Mass Effect 2, I'm talking about 1 here. And I choose not to continue playing without my ALL 3 of my favorite characters.
You can laugh or flame all you want, but I choose to not continue playing a game that greatly cripples the fun factor for me. Why play a game if its no longer fun?

1. I dont like playing ugly characters. I'm sorry if all you macho men out there think ugly is better, but news flash. Girls do play games. And we tend not to like playing things with tentacles or blue and green skin.
I hate playing with things who have black skin. Or just dark skin in general. Maybe those guys think ugly is better, right?

And roleplaying games also have stories. And in this story you have to fight. Sometimes people die. Ashley or Kaiden is a situation where one will die.
One of them needs to go with the salarians to maintain communication with you. It wasn't thought to be suicidal. Hell, it only becomes a sacrifice when the geth dropship arrives at the nuke site, everything was effectively fine until then (if you ignore the Salarians who have died, I suppose). If that dropship had arrived 5 minutes later, both would have lived. Bad stuff happens.

Why should your favorite characters be immune to dying?

Why does losing one of those two suddenly make the game not fun?
Spoiler alert! In ME2, if you don't do things correctly, *everyone*, including you, can die. You can also fairly easily lose all but 2 members.
Bad stuff happens. Kill enough bad guys and eventually one of your team is likely to bite the dust.

the game is about aliens. I dont know why you installed it in the first place if you dont like them...
I dont mind stories about aliens. I just don't like playing them.
I was told it was a very fun RPG, and I could play as humans. Enough said. Apparently my friend convieniently left out the fact that Id lose one in the middle of the game. How could he have known? He's only one of the Edmonton devs..
And why should my favorite characters be immune to death? Well.. if i had the option to send one of the aliens along instead, I wouldnt be complaining. Wrex fans have a way to talk their way out of losing him. Human fans dont get the same choices? It's forced. There should be no forced anything in a game that was so acclaimed for its RP customization.
It's just lame imo. And it does take the fun away from me, because I enjoyed my squad. Sure if one of them had died in the first 5 minutes I wouldn't be so upset. I got attached to my squad, I have been playing them for weeks now, and I don't want to lose either of them.
So whatever. Flame away.

The aliens don't know the needed communication protocols to keep the teams organized.
The default ME2 game has Wrex dying. Sucks if you don't import a character, eh?
What exactly is forced? That *someone* dies or that one of those two dies? If you had to sacrifice 4 out of the 6 members of your squad for something, leaving you with just two, would you view that as better than having to pick between Ashley and Kaidan?

unfortunately, i didn't know about the death either till it came up and i really struggled over who to save and actually felt a real loss for who died.
i think it makes it a better game if it pulls the rug out from under you.

You still will not be able to play both of them. You will have to choose between the two saves.
The main character is human, so your not playing an alien if you take one on the team.

you can only import one into ME2, but you can edit the save files so you can use both ashley and kaidan for the rest of ME1
