1. I dont like playing ugly characters. I'm sorry if all you macho men out there think ugly is better, but news flash. Girls do play games. And we tend not to like playing things with tentacles or blue and green skin.

Please don't generalize. I'm a girl and I had Liara in my squad at almost all times after saving her. Different strokes for different people. Sex has nothing to do with it. An all human squad is YOUR preference.

Stop hating the humans just because they aren't aliens.

Hey, we're not hating on the humans, we're hating on the OP. Admittedly I said I didn't like them at all, however I'm hardly saying 'they aren't the aliens', I was saying I thought that their characters were bland. I romanced Kaidan in the first game, but looking back on it, he was kind of whiny, and he wasn't attractive at all.

I personally think that the aliens make better squadmates as well as - Garrus and Wrex were perfect for your team, as they had combat and tech/biotic skills respectively. They would good backup in any situation. Kaidan and Ashley were not REALLY a good team unless you played an Engineer, I think.

Ashely for another example is not racist however she is mistrusting of aliens. That doesn't make her a racist just because she had said a vague political reference in the game about how the council would put their kind first which does tend to happen in politics more often then most realize.

Ohh... here's where we disagree. Ashley was a xenophobic bible-thumper, end of. She said she was uncomfortable with aliens being on the ship, but the aliens weren't the council, were they? Two of your alien squadmates don't even belong to races that are on the council, but she still distrusted them all. I spoke to her a couple of times to try and get a feel for the character, but it always ended up in me telling her to watch her tongue due to her racism. Then she shot Wrex, so I blew her up. I had that situation under control, damn it! :(

I don't disagree with the council thing. I think they would have backstabbed Shepard in the back if they had the slightest inkling s/he was endangering the three of them.

Not Jacob? Racist! :P

I romanced Garrus, but would have gone for Wrex if there was the option.

Please she wasn't a bible thumper at all, and I am an Agnostic who is slowly turning in to an Atheist. She practices it in her own way she tell you that, if you picked the are you a funide option. She is not a Xenophob she only  mistrust Wrex because he was a merc, and Garrus was of the same race that attacked Humans in the first contact war, BUT she does warm up to them and  she worked with the Slarains just fine as well.Hell, I'd mistrust the people I just met  as well, since I am not familiar with them untill I got too know them.....

Hey, horses for courses. I personally did not think he was attractive - he looked a bit greasy to me, maybe it was just me.

She sort of was? I am also Agnostic, except leaning towards religion. I suppose I didn't listen to her dialogue properly, because I was more blinded by the fact that she was distrustful of her teammates. You have to remember that Ashley was going to be fighting beside these aliens whether she liked it or not, and rather than grin and bear it, she had the audacity to complain that these aliens were going to backstab them. (Maybe I diverted from the point a little, but I'm just playing Devil's Advocate now, because I honestly can't remember or find any of her dialogue.)

Ashley was religious but she didn't push it on you. However from playing ME 1 I could not stand her prejudice against Aliens. There is one specific line on the Citadel that makes me cringe every time. Normally I killed Kaiden in this situation but Ashley is one of my least favorite characters in video games. Recently I've been going back to ME 1 so I could have more saves with a living Kaiden.

She's not racist and she isn't a bible thumper. She has a serious lack of trust for aliens she doesn't know. She doesn't have a problem with garrus, tali, or wrex. (she does have one with liara, because liara will hit on you). The only reason she kills wrex, is to protect shepard.

Holding true to her character, when shep first invites aliens on board, she naturally has a problem with them. And given her history, its completely understandable. However moving past that initial conversation, she never says anything bad about them ever. Her conversations with them in the elevators are very pleseant.

Oh god, you're sitting there arguing and you don't even remember her dialogue. Remember, no one likes arguing for the sake of arguing.

I'm done here, have a hug on the house.

I disagree with Ashley on her views on God and her reasoning for believing. It does not really matter, she's a good person although too distrustful of aliens.

I don't judge a character based on how they act in the first place, because it a little known fact that Characters can change over the telling of a story, game ect. No she wasn't a Bible thumper just because she talked about god doesn't make her one as a matter a fact... . . I never remembered her saying the Salarins were going to backstab you during the mission. However, I do remember her saying that about the Council.....

You can't call Ashley a bible thumper. All she said is that she believes in God and heaven. It's perfectly possible to do that without even subscribing to any religion, including Christianity (which is the only time "bible thumper" is appropriate). Since she isn't forcing it on anyone I don't really care.

She doesn't ever really give her reasoning to beleiving in God. You're getting that mixed up for her comments on how anyone can "not beleive in something."

Hey, this is a debate, not an argument. Debates are fun.

I gotta say, you have me here, because I switched out Ashley and Kaidan when I got other characters. I didn't ever find out what she was like outside of dialogue on the ship, but I'll admit that I only truly dislike her because she killed Wrex. It might have been to protect Shepard, but I would rather have gone down trying to talk Wrex out of it, because in this, he was the friend that had been there all that time for Shep, and Ashley was the one whining about the aliens on board. If her elevator conversations are true, then doesn't that make her really quite two-faced? Saying that she doesn't trust the aliens, and suddenly she's friends with them?

You're quite obviously a fan of Ashley, so I won't continue. Horses for courses, really, so I don't have much right to tell you that Ashley is a bad character, etc. You paid much more attention to her than I did.

That's how I interpreted it. And seeing as how we don't know her religion, it appeared to me to be her reasoning for believing in something - that something appearing to be God (an entity who itself has many varied definitions, some people view God as the universe). Either way, I disagreed with that statement about how anyone can "not believe in something." It doesn't really bother me because she is in no one forcing it on anyone.

I suppose that whole thing is up for interpretation. But because of that, I wouldn't hold it against her. You could look at it either way.

It's ironic how Kaidan was beaten and harassed by a turian for... however long he was at BAaT yet has no negative feelings against aliens - turians in particular.

Ashley said she never did serve with aliens before but she doesn't exactly hate them, just isn't quick to trust them with her life.

Granted I like both characters.

Ok, you seem to be civil about it. I really don't have a problem with people not liking her character. The great thing about BioWare games is the wide variety of character they create. Its nice to have the option to like some characters and to even dislike others. I just have a problem with people who think she's a racist nutjob.

Feel free to dislike Ashley, but make sure you're actually talking about ashley and not getting her confused with some bizarro version you've created in your head. (that wasn't really directed at you in particular)

Like I said, I would have prefered to have gone down trying to talk Wrex down than have someone else shoot him. Wrex was my best friend in that game, damn it! We went everywhere together. If his stupid AI got him stuck behind a door, I'd go back and retrieve him, even though he'd glitch right back next to me. It's the sort of dedication those crazy Tali fans have, yanno? Haha. I ended up restarting the game soon after Virmire and got Wrex's family armor. I liked him too much to lose him.

Also, this thread really did get offtopic, didn't it? The point still stands, though - OP shouldn't be playing Mass Effect.

If Wrex was really your best friend, she wouldn't have shot him. He'd have backed down by then.

Has a point. If you do his family armor mission, he always backs down IIRC.
