So, I was thinking, would it help to play Mass Effect 1 after all? (Since i've played Mass Effect 2).

Since I've already completed ME2 two times, should I start again with ME1  then import those characters into an ME2 game and play with that?

Help, as in, getting the benefits of playing ME2 when you import an ME1 save, as-well as actualling knowing what to say when the people in ME2 remind you past events which you made a decision for (whether it be good or bad, i'm not to know) :P

Well hey, I got ME2 first for my birthday and I couldn't resist. So, would it be worth it? (Note that I still don't know a lot of what had happened in ME1)

I feel sorry for the people who played ME2 before ME1.

An advice. Brainwash yourself. Try to forget all you remember from ME1. Create a custom Shepard. Go through ME1. Carry your Shep to ME2. Finish ME2, with all DLC from Cerberus+Kasumi.

Yeah, Mass Effect 1 is totally worth it. Puts Cerberus in a whole new light - you'll play ME2 completely differently. I think. I wouldn't know personally, I played ME1 when it came out.

Consider these facts:

1) ME1 has its own good storyline and some minor events happen that aren't/vaguely mentioned in ME2.

2) ME1 is different from ME2 in some ways ( some examples: like gameplay, armor, and upgrading).

3) By playing ME1, it changes some of the storyline in ME2.

Not to mention that ME1 is cheap and you get the chance to drive the MAKO (you may or may not like it)

Hope this helps

I've played through me1 so many times I cant even count. It's really an awesome game ...for it's time. Right now, compared to me2, it's really dated imo. The combat system is nothing like me2's and the textures are really bad. Aside from that, if you havent played it yet, I still recommend picking it up and giving it a run through. Just dont be put off my the horrible combat, you will get used to it.

Is the combat similar? For example, are there thermal clips you have to constantly pick up, etc? Any ammo/biotic powers? And is there a function for real-pause (similar to when you press Shift in combat in ME2)?

Ammo is infinite and it overheats if overused a lot. There are no ammo powers instead you get ammo modifications (works differently). Biotic powers are there of course and same for the pause.

Okay thanks. Also, does ME1 have that stupid save limit of 50 that is present in ME2?

I wasn't aware of any save limit. Just use "quick save" if you're on PC, but then again a Save Limit sounds awfully consoley.

All in all, ME1 is one of the best games I've ever played. No question about it.

Seriously. If you are on PC, like I am, you can only have a maximum of 50 saves per character, with the exception of the mission saves and quick saves (quick saves automatically overwrite each other anyway).

If there is a way to change the limit, please tell me! I hate having to go down to the bottom, click on the earliest save then deleting, then scrolling down to the bottom again, clicking on the earliest save... etc.

Playing ME1 is worth it for the story, but I'm guessing you'll hate the combat if you're coming from ME2. I played ME1 first, so it didn't bother me then, but going back now it's kind of a pain. Just be ready for that, it's still worth it.

The textures are not bad at all, maybe you need to upgrade your pc or something. The only texture that is bad is the face from garrus, nothing else

Given that it's only $20 on Steam, Why wouldn't you buy it?

Well yes, although i feel ME2 is overall the better game, get it, its still a very good game. Just don't expect the mechanics to be similar to ME2.

I'm unsure what is here down under (Australia). I have a $150 K-Mart gift card, hoping that they'd have Mass Effect in stock in their games section.

It pains me that some people have played ME2 without playing ME1 first.

Well, the first Star Wars movie I saw was Return of the Jedi. And I still had a blast watching the previous two.

Mass Effect 1 was my favorite game ever for a long time. Now I'm on this long debate with myself about which is better, ME1 or 2. I love them both. Just... as much as I love ME2, especially for all the great characters, there was nothing like that first feeling of arrival at the Citadel in ME1... Also, the final mission in ME1 is awesome and I actually think feels more dynamic than the final mission in ME2.... But I'm moving away from the thread subject.

If you really enjoyed playing ME2, than I think there are good chances you'll like to play ME1 and build a new character... You'll probably love your next playthrough of ME2 even more because of that, and that alone is worth the experience.

If there is any real worth in playing ME1 remains to be seen in ME3. Not much if any choices in ME1 affects ME2 but might have an impact in ME3.

ME1 however has a good story and some interesting sub-stories that you can follow - Biotics is way more powerfull in ME1 then ME2 but overall combat is better in ME2. All the same i would advice you to play ME1 - it's not a bad game after all :)
