I wasn't aware of any save limit. Just use "quick save" if you're on PC, but then again a Save Limit sounds awfully consoley.

All in all, ME1 is one of the best games I've ever played. No question about it.

Seriously. If you are on PC, like I am, you can only have a maximum of 50 saves per character, with the exception of the mission saves and quick saves (quick saves automatically overwrite each other anyway).

If there is a way to change the limit, please tell me! I hate having to go down to the bottom, click on the earliest save then deleting, then scrolling down to the bottom again, clicking on the earliest save... etc.

Sure it limits you to 50 save slots, but you can just overwrite you're earlier saves.

But that in turn will delete that save, where I might want to go back to
it in the future (which I have done in some cases).

No no, I understand where you are coming from, I'm someone who saves a lot as well, I do one save at the begining of each mission and then have another one that I continuosly write over during that mission.  As for going back, once I'm half way I'm not really going to go back to the begining to get something I missed, I'll just get that in another play through so I just keep going.  If I have 11 out of 12 possible party members I'm not about to go back to when I only had 3 possible party members.

I will in due time. Dragon Age: Origins is my "brainwashing" technique, since I suspect that the next and final part in the Mass Effect trilogy won't be released until 2013+ :P

lol it will actually come in 2011 or very latest 2012.

I'm getting mixed feelings :P

The majority are saying to definitely play it, but are not that descriptive and explanatory. However, the ones saying that I wouldn't benefit are the minority but are explaining why and describing the differences.

Well, I'll make a decision soon (like within today), and you can comment on it or not.

ME should be played by everyone interested in the trilogy, no matter what.  It's the begining of the story and lays the groundwork for the universe and the reaper threat.  I think everyone will agree that ME is a great game, however different people have different opinions as to if it's better then ME2 or not, in my case I feel ME is the superior game.

Some of the key differences between ME and ME2:
  • The most obvious one is inventory, ME has your typical RPG inventory but on crack, you'll find lots of armor, weapons, and weapon mods, and I mean lots.  ME2 has no real inventory, only a limited number of weapons, no weapon mods, and you can only change the armor of your main char, not your squad like you could in ME.
  • Ammo comes in as the 2nd most obvious change.  In ME you don't need to worry about thermal clips, instead you worry about your weapon overheating and wait a few seconds for it to cool down, frequency of waiting depends on weapon and mods.  Also, there are no ammo powers in ME, instead they are actual ammo mods that anyone can use and you can switch them out on the fly
  • The skill trees in ME are much bigger then they are in ME2.  Some prefer the streamlined trees of ME2 saying that the trees before were bloated and other prefer the ME style which they felt offered more customizeation.  The ME trees also included weapon skills so that the more points you put into Assualt Rifle, the more accurate you became and the more damage you did..
  • ME is more of a traditional RPG elements then ME2 does.  A great example of this is the Citadel.  In ME the Citadel is massive with lots of sidequests that don't envolve fighting, this was the area that most people who only wanted to paly a shooter got to and gave up.
  • Exploring random planets is a huge part of ME.  While fun, it suffered from the fact that every planet was pretty much the same and feelings on the MAKO are mixed, some like it and some hate it.
You really should pick up ME and give it a shot, you can sit here and ask people if you should get it but in the end none of us are you and can't make the choice for you.  If you really liked ME2 and want to know more about the story as well as have your own character to carry through the trilogy and shee how ME2 differs now that you made the choices in ME, then pick it and play it, if you aren't looking for that.  If however this is not what you are looking for, I still say you should pick it up as it's only $20, but if you just want to shoot things, then you may end up being a little dissapointed.

BW has said that they intend to have ME3 out in 2012 with something "far reaching" coming in the first 3 months of 2011, think ME2 xpac or a spinoff.

DA:O is a great game but the more traditional RPG gameplay can turn off a lot of people who are looking for something akin to ME2 so make sure you are ok with playing something that's similar to Never Winter Nights and KOTOR then ME2 mechanics wise.

I'm more fanatical in a good storyline than shooting, to be honest. I am the person that wants to carry all the way through as-well as getting to know the story a bit better. Thanks for your feedback on the differences, just by reading, I probably won't care that much.

I also prefer the more traditional RPGs (I'm a huge fan of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. I liked World of Warcraft, Freelancer, etc). And by the looks of Dragon Age: Origins via the trailers, fan-made videos and various scenes, it seems pretty good. But I'll just have to wait and see I guess. xD

Again, thank you Daeion for your time. :)

I wouldn't consider Oblivion, WoW or Freelancer to be 'traditional' RPGs (the latter is a limited Elite clone, not even an RPG). Oblivion is a sandbox RPG, a subgenre that Bethesda pretty much invented. Good, but different to the trad RPGs of yore.

If you like RPGs, I'd suggest you play the Baldur's Gate series, Planescape: Torment, Fallout 1 and 2, and TES: Morrowind (IMO a far superior game to Oblivion).

Dragon Age is a very good game, as well as a nice shot of nostalgia for such games, and deserves to be played. So keep on doing what you're doing, but don't discount the classics.

Playing ME1 after playing ME2 is what I ended up doing because I wanted to see the groundwork to the story that I was missing out on. It is most definitely worth it and a must do if you haven't yet if you are interested in the Mass Effect trilogy.

But it's not even 'groundwork', it's literally the first third of the story. To play ME2 first is like reading the Two Towers before reading the Fellowship of the Ring. It makes no sense!

Very much so... it will change a lot of the things storywise when you start (granted you aren't a space racist).

I've heard that you can save the council in ME1 (since ME2 if you don't import, it automatically assumes that they're dead). Could you then, in ME2, contact the council and tell them about the real threat and maybe they'd help you? :S

They can't help you because of your affiliation with Cerberus, but they do let you back into the Spectres.

What's the advantages of that? You are above the law in the Citadel and whatnot?

In practice, not much. You get a few extra intimidate/charm options on the Citadel (for instance, in Thane's interrogation section), and Shepard says things like "I'm a Spectre" instead of "I'm a former Spectre". However, it's good for roleplaying, and it doesn't hurt.

I am going to have to buy Mass Effect once again.

I sold my 360 due to money problems at the time, but kept my HDD for reasons likes the Mass Effect carry over save.

How gutted was I when I attached my HDD to my new 360, loaded up Mass Effect 2 and it couldn't find my old Mass Effect saves.

Hmm... Just out of curiosity, when I go to install Mass Effect 1, will it overwrite Mass Effect 2 in some way (e.g saves, or installation directory, etc)?

:'( Just went around to a few stores. Neither KMart, nor Myer nor Target had Mass Effect 1 (or 2 for that matter) nor Dragon Age: Origins :'(

I'll try Officeworks tomorrow.

EDIT: Just looked up Officeworks' website and searched for both products. It doesn't have it. Damnit!

I think it would help to play ME1. There's tons of story in the first one, the second one isn't as rich in that department.

Did you say you where in Australia mate.

If so I know that a couple of EB game stores near me all had copies of ME in both PC and xbox versions so perhaps you might want to try there instead and they where pretty cheap too (no more than $30 aus) for either version.

hope that helps.

Yeah I am in Australia and close to EB Games which do have both games, however, I have $150 worth in Coles' and Myer Group gift cards and I was hoping to use them as I would have no other use for them. :(
