Howdy folks, this is my first time posting on these here threads, so forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong place.

I recently decided to replay Mass Effect 1 and finally download those patches. Upon installing them with the Bring Down the Sky pack, my settings changed. I put the graphics back to how they previously were, but for some reason, I'm not seeing certain textures e.g. Nihlus's markings and MaleShep's beard.

The audio has suffered a problem as well. The sound seems far off at times, like when driving the Mako. When I shoot the turret, it sounds like it's being shot from a distance, and it's nearly impossible to hear the rocket explode.

All these settings were fine before I downloaded the patches and DLC. Does anyone know what's going on and how I might fix it?

Thanks in advance.

I'm having the exact same problem, only my sound problems are a bit more severe. My weapons firing Sound Effects are nearly mute and there's a constant buzzing in the background. Plus as mentioned the graphics have gone down in quality even though I have everything set to max. Can anyone please help? Would really appreciated, else I'll be forced to uninstall the whole game then reinstall without the patch :(

Same problem here. When I played ME back in the day it worked fine. When I went to replay it with my new rig it had a few audio stutters. Once patched the audio stutters got worse, the graphics settings had changed (and now look funky in some areas), and even though I am at minimum specs for ME2, that game runs great on my PC at 1280x1024 while ME runs fair to poor at 1024x768! Very strange...

The only way I got the audio to run well in a reliable fashion in Mass Effect was to change soundcards. It has a miserable sound subsystem. With a RealTek soundchip, I had sound cutting off all the time and occasionally stuttering. With a Creative soundcard it improved but the sound would occasionally get confused as to its position; ambient noises would be incredibly loud and everything else quiet and so on. When I used the newer Creative driver on Windows 7 all these problems went away. I can't really offer any help on this matter; it's a black art.

As for the graphics, did you try deleting all your config files (BioWare/Mass Effect/Config) in Documents?
