Oh my god, I should have known... he doesn't have a thread, he has an ENTIRE ARMY! x'D Don't mind if I do~ *click*

Though admittedly I was leaning more towards the Zev romance in terms of the concept; I'm a huge sucker for romances where one or both parties struggle with their feelings before finally coming out in the open. Alistair's the first one I went with though. It's straightforward for the most part, but incredibly sweet, with a huge twist towards the end. I honestly found it far more fulfilling than Zev's in the end. *refer to first post*

Oh, if you like bittersweet romance I'd recommend reading "A Midwinter's Thaw" on SIB. It's an Alistair/Cousland story with a twist and a ton of extras that settles on the Loghain redeemer ending (yes, Alistair leaves Ferelden!) and is set 8 years after the Blight. The thought of sparing Loghain has grown on me just because of this story.

Oh, and for the ultimate Alistair sexiness try THIS.

Welcome to the Alistair fangirldom. ^^

Oh, I love both romances. They're both good stories. I feel bad for neglecting Leliana though!

Seriously, give Sten the butterfly sword. He's good for a laugh, big tough Sten with purty butterflies. If you want to take on the deep roads by yourself as a mage, download the skill book mod, and the Armageddon spells. Um, by the time my party members got to the enemy, it was already dead. So, I figured I was making them feel insignificant, so I left them at camp. Seriously I just wanted to see if I could do it. Being that overpowered is just not fun for long though. And I wouldn't dream of doing the armageddon spells since the new patch was released. Can you say, crash city?!
I guess we both lack a life! My characters just recently started uploading again, but they didn't for a while. OMG Alistair is the hottest video game character ever. But I do also like Bann Teagan, he is pretty hot too. But Alistair, oh wow. (Just trying to stay on topic, here.) Errr, what was the topic again?

I adore the BannHammer.  He is the only non-party NPC I wish were actually romanceable.  Oh wait, him and Kylon.  Kylon is the only smart man in Denerim once Teagan left to go to Redcliffe after giving Loghain what forImage IPB

I just can't stand to be his mistress. As a person, I wouldn't be able to stand by while he married someone else and I just got her sloppy seconds. Not as the "Hero of Ferelden."  I generally don't make him king unless I am a human noble or intend to sacrifice one of us. I just think he is happier as a grey warden. So my city elf goes to rebuild the wardens with him at her side. It just really sucks I just feel like the lack of ANYTHING from your romance partner in Awakening has really ruined things for me. We went to rebuild the wardens together, so where the hell is Alistair? There is 0 explanation. I could deal with him not being there if it would just tell me in a codex or something where he went.
I honestly don't usually play as elves, I just have trouble identifying with them. The one in my pic here is my favorite, and one of the few that I have stuck with through the end. It is true however that the city elf is just better written than the Dalish one.
I actually just ordered the calling and the stolen throne, and am eager to read them. I have heard many good things. The story with Urna (I think that was her name anyway) in Awakening has gotten me curious.

I agree; I would never be someone's mistress.

Absolutely not for me.

I prefer the run away together ending with Alistair with my non-hn. But I will no longer play Awakening with any other than my noble. Seriously, I really liked Awakening my first playthrough, I was queen and I was mostly satisfied with how it went. What killed it for me is when I romanced Alistair, refused the swamp witch's offer, and Alistair died to protect me, and there was not mention of it at all in Awakening, and then I get the ending that I returned to his side and we ran off? Did I die and go to heaven with him or something? So not only did they fail to support the ultimate sacrifice ending for your pc, they also failed to support it if Alistair died. So this begs the question: Why even have the darn endings if you aren't going to support them in future releases?!

The only answer for this that I can think  of *fingers crossed* is by not supporting the US ending with Alistair dying was a way to perhaps allow him be in future games and DLC. This is the only thing I can think of and I am okay with it. I just feel that Alistair's character was intended to play a large role in the grand scheme of DA and really hope to see him in future games - and not just a 40 second cameo (sweet but it will not do).

LOL NO way!!  The mistress gets ALL the fun of the romance with Alistair, his love, nice prezzies and his love...okay the love thing is big enough I can't say it enough.  Any wife Alistair would take would be respected and perhaps he would even have some affection but I wouldn't be getting HER sloppy seconds she would be getting MINE (if thats how you want to look on it).  The Mistress would be the one he would prefer to be with not the wife. The wife would just be the "Do my duty to the throne" one.  (Which is what Alistair fears would happen if you stay on as his lover when he is king).  You just have to ensure all parties going in understand the arrangement and be discreet.

And no I am NOT a proponent of cheating NOR have I ever been someone's mistress but royalty doesn't get to choose who they marry. Often marriages are chosen by their father or advisors. The king doesn't have to marry whomever the advisors suggest but really they would pick the most advantageous alliance they can for their country and provided they aren't trying to make their own power play on the throne through the queen.

You have to see it from a midieval mindset in order to understand the role a mistress would play in a royal household.  Look at Henry, one of his mistresses gave him his first son who he actually acknowleged and announced as a potential heir (Until the sweating sickness killed the poor lad at about 17).

That's a question of perspective. While I agree it's not an easy choice to make I don't think the mistress will be the one on the side. A political marriage is not about sharing your life but making public appearances and providing heirs. And that's it. As long as there are no heirs the queen will have the short end of the stick, the moment children are involved it might get a little more complicated (knowing Alistair he would not ignore them) but I don't think the DA endings are set up for heirs anway.

What I wanted to say, in political marriages husband and wife could lead entirely seperate lives, I believe.

Edit:  I've been ninjaed.

sylvanaerie - YES, I agree with you. I think Bann Teagan is extremely hot. I really wanted to see Alistair get jealous when I flirted with Teagan in the Redcliffe Chantry; only wish we could flirt with him even more. I always make certain not to give Kaitlyn any money so Teagan does not end up marring her at my epilogue. I want to keep him single in the future, just in case

Alistair is my first <3 but Teagan would be my 2nd.

I think Alistair took the flirting as it was intended, as courtly flirtation.  Even Teagan doesn't take it seriously unless you take it to the highest level of SQUEEE which I HAVE to because its all I get in the game and he realizes he has overstepped the bounds of propriety.  Your reassurance its quite alright and you just took it in an amusing way seems to make him feel better...but then you get that one little wistful snippet of dialog outside the wiindmill later...

Oh man Teagan makes me melt.  Alistair wasn't my first Image IPB in DA:O.  I fell hard for Teagan that first cut scene right after you leave Flemeth's hut.  My first playthrough I thought Alistair looked kinda goofy and unattractive but spending just an hour or so talking to him in camp and that voice and his sweetness and roooowwwr yea...I fell hard for Alistair too.

@CalJones

I like that one better too.  The Kaitlyn epilogue bugged on me one time when I wanted a happy ending for Teagan and gave her the 5g for the sword.  BIggest waste of money in game I have ever spent.  Bevin's ending MUCH superior.

I always set him up with Kaitlyn.

Teagan is the total package. Smart, sexy, a bit of a rebel bad boy (Just look at how he stands up to Loghain AND later when Eamon TOLD him to stay at Redcliffe WHO do we see looking up at the Fort Drakon tower when the AD was slain?) polished, ready to defend those he cares about (though he admits he is not the best warrior) so add humility to that growing list of traits. Responsible, mature and experienced enough to be counted on to have your back when the chips are down but young and healthy enough to be fun when you can relax.

Of course it is. This is why I stated that it was not for me - not that it is not a good choice for others.

Historically speaking, Royal marriages while initially may have been political in nature often included unparalleled love and devotion from both parties. From a public/formal standpoint a King's mistress would have received the King's affections but little else, save some small estate provisions depending on the relationship and if there were any bastard children involved. His wife and Queen will always take  precedence in any formal circumstance over a mistress (except for the very rare instance such as Henry VIII). I myself would never marry Alistair unless it were out of love; wanting to rule along side to him out of love as a partnership and not out of a desire for power.

I approve of this message! I am a whole-hearted supporter of the mistress ending, even for my Couslands. Let some other woman bear the brunt of heir expectations and state events, I say.

Besides the wedding, the game has made very few distinctions between queen and mistress (a mistress even gets a better Awakening epilogue, although I suspect that is an oversight). I also think the post-Landsmeet discussion ends more satisfactorily for a mistress than it does for a queen.  He ends the convo with the queen on a note of resignation, while the mistress gets awesome assertiveness and a bit of sexiness.

Tell him that you'll save everyone that can be saved, and he'll say "You're brave as well as beautiful. The Maker smiled upon me indeed when he sent you to Redcliffe" and then indicate that he wishes the two of you could have met in less zombie-tastic times.

I think the whole mistress/wife debate is kind of moot if your character loves Alistair. If you are the HNF and in love with him, your marriage is not political. It is the only case where Alistair gets to marry for love. As far as duy and expectations for your Cousland, it depends on how you RP her. My Cousland is very much a take charge kind of girl. She has beenr aised to rule. To abandon it and not do it would be something she couldn't do. For her, marriage is the ONLY option. She gets to marry, like Alistair, for love, she gets to help Alistair figure out ruling, and then live happily ever after.

And I say happily ever after b/c that story line is the one my long fanfic is about and I get to control what happens, damnit.

@Bratt

When flirting withTeagan take it to its Nth degree I will try to paraphrase forgive me if its not full And as I recall the mage one (My favorite) best I will use her as an example but the dialog is close.

Teagan: What of you, my lady are you married?

PC: I'm a mage

Teagan: mages can marry or so I am told

PC: They can, if the man is brave enough

Teagan: I can think of many reasons a man would be so brave (I love the way his voice drops on that last word like OMG I can't believe I jsut said that!) But forgive me my lady I am too bold. This is not the time for such banter.

PC: (There are several responses but I usually choose) Not at all you are not bold enough.

Teagan: You are too kind my lady...among many other things.

Then later after you finish talking to that harpy Isolde and Teagan makes the plan to go in ahead of you and have you infiltrate in the tunnel he says something like "Eamon is the important one get him out, the rest of us are expendable.

If you choose the option "I dont' believe that I will save you all" (or something to that effect, its the first line of choice at that point for the PC)

He responds with "You are brave as well as beautiful. The Maker smiled on me indeed when he sent you to Redcliffe. (Then in a tiny wistful voice after) "If only things had been...."

Then that damn Leliana always interrupts *SIGH*

I don't agree with the mistress part therefore my question is why marry him to Anora when he can be king by himself? Or the "mistress ending" is referring to the fact that he might be required to get married, as a king, in the future?

Hehe. As far as dealing with the Awakening slide, it is very, very easy to RP it out. I do not believe my Cousland is gone for good when that happens. As far as people saying the mistress slide is better, I disagree. Unless you are leaving for your Calling, and the slide does not seem to intimate that to me in anyway, Alistair taking off with you is *bad*. Like, all that time and effort to put him on the throne and he just takes off on a whim? I'da slapped that boy silly if he did that.

Both. I prefer to make him solo king but he'll need to find a wife, eventually. Especially if Eamon is calling the shots.
