Well, good thing I was going to remake and replay my HNF!! Although, she was going to be a warrior....30 cunning would be kind of a waste.
I always play warriors, so I've never had that high a level of cunning at that point in the game, although I'm usually pretty high by the time I finish the mage's circle. Not early enough to get Ostagar options, though....

I guess I look at it from more of a kismet perspective. In my view, he was meant to be king. The fact that Maric tried to keep him out of the succession makes that more tragic because it makes it more difficult for him, but that's just what Flemeth prophesied about Maric- he would hurt the ones he loves. Plus, don't you want a good man to lead? As long as he is able to do what needs to be done, everyone is better off when the one in charge is compassionate.
I speak from a very individualistic point of view. I've always been pretty much against the concept of sacrificing personal happieness and life's dreams/innerself for a "greater good". Neither of my cannon characters, for various reasons, really cared about what was best for Ferelden, especially at the cost of the man they loved. Truly good hearted, compasionate leaders do not have long life spans in the jungle that is realworld politics. They either become something bitter and resentful, get assasinated or removed.
When I play with Alistair, his bloodline, nor Eamon's ambitions amount to squat in terms of what his destiny should be. His destiny should be his own to carve, of his own making, born of his deepest desires in his heart. He should make his way through life as Alistair. Not Maric's bastard, not the last of the Therins, not as an expedient political solution to a national crisis.
Note, this is my own personal reasoning and perspective, not an attempt to establish an SOP in playing with the most awesome Alistair. Not saying your view is wrong, either. It is a medieval fantasy after all. In those times, there was almost a magical, spiritual quality believed to be possesed by noble bloodlines, people really felt it was almost a religous duty to preserve them.
But the anarchist in me says "Meh, **** ferelden, I'll give em Anora, since I don't bow to any authority but my own, and I got the lightning bolts/pointy objects to clarify this point should anyone object.

Even though he gives way better speeches as king than Anora does as queen, I much think I prefer unkinged Alistair. It seems more natural, as well as a happier fate for him. Even hardened, he really never gave me warm fuzzy feelings about crowning him, even when he took the throne.
And being who he is, I dread to think what the burden of ruling will do to him when he comes face to face with some of the highly unpleasant things he must do as a leader. Heavy is the head that wears the crown, and his is not a head I wish to see bowed down with heavy heart and conscience.
My feeling about this is that he'd probably end up equally, or more, unhappy if he's not king, and seeing Anora make choices he wouldn't make himself, knowing he could have prevented them. That feeling of duty isn't going to go away because he isn't king. To me, his strong realization that every decision he might make would have an impact on real people is one of his strongest positives as king, for all it makes him dread such choices. He can wish he wasn't Maric's son, he can pretend the same, but it doesn't make it so.

The slide says that he leaves Denerim frequently, and leaves governance in your hands, but it doesn't say that he isn't doing king sort of things while he's gone. He may prefer a hands on approach to diplomacy, both with the nobility and other countries. If he was just going for a pint, he wouldn't have to leave Denerim.Thor Rand Al wrote...

Hrm. No, that does trigger as hardened Alistair. And it sort of directly conflicts with the previous statement of learning to art of governance and all that. *sighs* Is it too much to ask for a little consistancy?
Edit: Hrm, reviewing it again, I think the point is to let the PC continue to have a fairly large role, and show Alistair's willingness to trust the PC's judgement. *frowns*
That's why I was shocked when I read that, cause one minute he's learning how to govern n the very next card he's leaving it to me. Weird but ok, hey I see it as this, it's his way of paying me back for making him King lol. He did ask me to stay, even said I owed him. Damn you Alistair n you making me feel guilty lmao.

Just a FYI though No Helmet Hack and Dexterity Light Armor mods will conflict since they both edit the BITM files. I believe No Helmet Hack will still work on any item that isn't being modified by by Dexterity Light Armor though. So, say Alistair's massive helmet should still hide.
How does the dex thing work? The description was pretty sparce. Does it alter ALL armors for all characters so will my warriors be required to have ungodly dex to put on their armor? or does it go by class (like the AW thing?)

Yup. I was saying earlier that as long as he and the PC are friendly, it's basically continuing the relationship they had during the Blight. I'm okay with it. Still going from 'learning governance and being fair/even-handed' to 'most of the decisions are yours' seems a tad bit contradictory.

I figure that when he's there, he makes the decisions, with advice from his chancellor or wife, but when he isn't, he trusts you to make decisions in his absence. Anything else doesn't jive with the 'good governance' thing.
