It seems to me that the two origins most likely to understand the need for Alistair's duty to be king are the Dalish and the HNs and maybe the DNs, only HNFs have the opportunity to become queen as well and still marry their love.

Oh, definitely the DN would. They may or may not have wanted the throne themselves but as a princess they would have been raised knowing that that duty might fall to them.
And of course mine never did manage to really grasp that he DIDN'T want the throne that was basically being giftwrapped for him...Posted Image

Hey I have a question, I saw this on another thread and well is this true cause I have never seen it.

I think the funniest line is yours, when you play a human noble, when Logain and company come to Arl Eamon's estate. You can say to Howe, after he speaks, "Ohhh, look the Regeant has a talking ass."

And if it is true how do I go about getting that lol

There's just so much potential for tragedy and sorrow and angst that it makes the romance that much more poignant to me.  :crying:

It's true, in my previous DEF game she went to rebuild the Wardens so she could maintain some freedom.  When I re-did her game, I made her chancellor, but probably my first instinct was better.  She stayed with Alistair, though.  I figure you can base yourself in and around Denerim without being in court every day.  The Warden HQ isn't there anymore, but certainly the Wardens should have a presence there.

lol I don't think anyone in this thread is reading my fic, so I'll give away part of the ending (there's always the sequel I plan to write, right?  ;)).  She lets him go, knowing he needs to marry someone else, and moves on to rebuild the Wardens alone because being a Grey Warden is all she has left - the only clan she has remaining, even if her closest clanmate can't be with her anymore.  And she hopes that by leaving him behind, he'll find a way to move on and love whoever he marries, so that at least he can be happy.

I imagine she spends as little time at the Vigil as she can get away with and instead spends most of her time patrolling the countryside and recruiting - both to occupy herself and for the sense of freedom.

So, Dalish ladies, what are your character's personalities like? I have a hard time coming up with a personality for my dalish.

How much time do you have? I think alone the random character facts about my Mahariel were two sites in open office. Though I'm writing a story with her ...so yeah, naturally I have her more fleshed out than the rest of all my chars together.

I say maybe mostly because of how dirty dwarven politics can be, so it kind of depends on how your play your PC in that sense - whether she went with playing rough and dirty to get what you want, or whether she was more "pure of heart"....I really can't think of the term I want to use there, but hopefully you get what I mean.

Reading the description I realized that what's going on in that picture is that Mahariel is saying goodbye to Alistair so he can go be king.  :crying:

But, I think you can see it in a more positive way, that she inspires him.

It seems to me that the two origins most likely to understand the need for Alistair's duty to be king are the Dalish and the HNs and maybe the DNs, only HNFs have the opportunity to become queen as well and still marry their love.  The Dalish have to "settle" with mistress, or if their honor forbids that, then they have to let him go.  CEFs and DCFs seem more likely to take the practical view on things so the mistrss option might not be so bad, and I could see a mage grasping any freedom they could get.  But the Dalish knew freedom, would probably think court is stifling...

There's just so much potential for tragedy and sorrow and angst that it makes the romance that much more poignant to me.  :crying:

Ohhh, I think my dalish is going to put Alistair on the throne and do the US, because she doesn't want to ask him to do a dark ritual and doesn't trust Morrigan with a child (especially the love of her life's child). She is going to leave him at the gates. It's going to be tragic...and awesome.

My current Dalish is making Alistair King, the explanation requires some metagaming but her view of the city elves changes between Zev and seeing the Alienage at the landsmeet. No way she can allow Anora to rule after her father allowed those elves sold into slavery...Alistair would improve their lot in life I think. She's going to stay as chancellor as well. Her father wanted the Dalish more involved with the humans, and after some time in their world, she's more willing to take that step, giving her people a voice. If Alistair should get married, well, they'll burn that bridge when they come to it.

For now...he's not married, so their relationship is just as honorable as anyone elses. I think she'd let him go if he did though.

You mean whether or not she was willing to play politics or Bhelen did, as he puts it, do her a favor because she was clearly born into the wrong family?

Thinking about it for my fic, I think my Dalish and Morrigan are something of kindred spirits - both raised in the wild and not used to human ways.  I imagine them hunting together, in a friendly competition sort of way, and while they're very different in terms of personality and morality, they have this common bond that unites them.

If she could have done the ritual herself, she wouldn't have had a huge problem with it, not after Morrigan reassures her that she means them no harm and that the child will be neither harmed or be a danger to Ferelden in the future.  What paused her was asking Alistair to do it when she knows that he would balk at sleeping with someone else and knowing how much he despises Morrigan.  So she brings the matter to him and lets him decide.  Were it up to my Dalish girl, she would find a way to take the final blow herself, but she knows that there's no way to be sure that Alistair won't sacrifice himself to spare her.  So Morrigan's ritual it is.

Tamlen does have blond hair - my bet (unless the artist said differently) would be that it's him, given that it's light armor that he's wearing, which most people don't put on Alistair....

All you proud Dalish women, I guess I should admire you.  ;)  My DEF did not give Alistair up and this one won't, either, if it comes to that.  I have considered doing a Warden ending with her, but I just don't think I can do it.  It is a happy ending, but not much of a story.

This fanart is quite different, but I like it.  Dragon Age theme in Art Nouveau style

Essentially, yeah.  My grasp on words is starting to slip, between the migraine and the Tylenol PM I took a little while ago.  :P

No not the hair it's the armor that makes me think Cammen. Alistair doesn't generally wear light armor. Well not in my games anyway.

It doesn't surprise me, though the choice of armor does.  People usually draw Al in his trademark splintmail or heavy/massive armor of some sort.  lol Or in the buff, or in Chasind robes...

OK serious question. That pic Addai posted inspired me to make a redhead Cousland. But I totally SUCK at makeup for redheads. I try for hours and am never happy with the outcome. Any pointers?
