I stopped reading new fics when I started to work on my own fic. I do so much research and I'm so concerned with background information, details and plot consistency that I somehow notice too much when a fic seems to lack something. It's no fun anymore.Merilsell wrote...
So avoiding is my tactic since I started writing it...partly it makes me sad because I have missed good playthtrough ficlets like 'Merciful blood' or 'From the dirt' because of that. Well more to read for me once I'm finished with mine, I suppose.
The only ongoing ficlets I follow right now are Lady D's 'Sundered Order' ,The mistress Dalish thingie "I can handle it' (partly weird but still good) ,Surely's "Undertow" , Cousland after blight 'The night is full of stars'- FF and lurking into "The last Warden" which is a playthrough FF but due to the absense of the other Warden is different to read. Although even with those wonderful fics I struggle to catch up atm, le sigh.
The Night is Full of Stars must be one of the most disappointing fics I have every read. I hate it with a passion!
I especially have that when reading a Dalish fic...it drives me nuts when the author is making a Mahariel best friends with all her companions immediately after meeting and is uber-friendly to every stranger she sees. It just feels...artifictional to me. Then again I'm a sucker for slow friendship/reletionship building so this more a general thing and not restricted to Dalish ficlets, I guess. Though it especially strikes me odd with the general distrusting Dalish PC.
But I understand your reason, because I handle it similar. It's hard for me getting into new fics for this very reason.
Oh, the night is full of stars have I read until chapter 59 then I got bored and stopped. I was planning to catch up someday, but somehow the author isn't stopping to spawn chapters out, so having to read 40 chapter just to catch up makes me think meeh. I'm really too lazy for that currently...better spend the time needed on my ficlet or outside with my friends.
geez the thing is 90 chapters plus long? Is she writing about every single star???

was having breakfast at Ryan's with my teenager planning our day. First to Office max to pick up some art supplies (when it opens) and maybe get some new printer ink. so I just got back...for a few minutes anyway.LadyDamodred wrote...

Yukistair is mega cute. Is that gold armor he's wearing? I like how it looks with his complexion.

It's funny, I can't even bring myself to use my own morph. I tried but I just couldn't keep the scruff.

Yes, i used the upgrade wand on the heavy chainmail armor. It gives his skin a nice golden glow.

I kid you not. She had some interesting plot points but she never focused on them. Like the Wardens interrogating her at Weishaupt about how they survived the AD or Fergus Cousland being a bad guy.
But really 20 chapters of smut and now 10 chapters of fluff make me want to
For 99 chapters covering 10 post-blight years the plot very extremely thin. Nothing to say of the characterization that can be summarized with: People are doing this because I need them to do it, not because it makes sense.
Sorry, as I said, I hate this fic with a passion ... and it has 450 reviews, most of them are like OMAGAWDURSOAWESOME.

I kid you not. She had some interesting plot points but she lost them along the way. Like the Wardens interrogating her at Weishaupt or Fergus Cousland being a bad guy. But really 20 chapters of smut and now 10 chapters of fluff makes me want to.

Tell us how you really feel
I just can't even imagine sitting down to read a 99 chapter fanfic at all, much less writing one. 20 chapters of smut? How do you even accomplish that?

I'm sorry. I've been waiting for so long to rant about this and now that the opportunity arose I couldn't let it pass.yukidama wrote...

Edit:
I want to atone by offering you Klarabellistair - who is possibly the identical twin of Yuki-stair.

Edit 2: Sneaking in corrections. No one will ever know because no one reads quotes.

Haha, it's ok. I've gone on similar rants before. I haven't read fic in years but I understand the feeling. Especially if you're in fandoms where the source material has a large cast with a lot of characters that have no personality or characterization at all. I've gotten into arguements with people trying to say that "X character who shows up for all of 5 minutes and does nothing is totally this way and that way. I play him in a LiveJournal roleplaying game, I should know!" All these people basically made their own mary sues and inserted the character's appearance. More often than not these people wrote fic too, I can't even imagine what a disaster those were.

I have to thank you guys for mentioning this fic, because seeing the sheer over-bloatedness of it made me decide to take a more critical eye to my next chapter, which was verging on self-indulgent and desperately needed to be pruned. Yay for perspective!
Syl, no! Don't stop writing! Creativity is good, and your stories are really nice. Although, pictures of Ser Pounce-a-landers are always awesome.
