Let me guess how it went on; the original queen died a gruesome death later on and after years of angsting Jess is slowly getting back together with Alistair again and is becoming his new queen in the end? ../../../images/forum/emoticons/ninja.png

HOW IN THE MAKER'S NAME DID YOU KNOW THAT?

Of course, she conveniently died after giving birth to a daughter, poisoned by Fergus btw. :D
Alistair and Lady Cousland are rekindling their relationship as if they were innocent like fresh fallen snow.

WTF?!  No, srsly.  WTF?!

Stopped reading it after that. So you have really read it all? Wow.

Noooo, no no, I stopped after chapter 41. I merely take a peek when the reviews tell me it's safe.

Edit: Oh, daily soap. That's what I called it once in a review. :innocent:

Because it is the oldest and most overused Cousland/Alistair plot available, that's why XD Though it was a wild guess of me at the point, but I love to be right [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/w00t.png[/smilie]

Dang, the world of fanfiction, never gets boring, I see. :D But I'm gonny bomb FF.net if they don't fix the damned traffic fail soon.

So, was the original queen really, really ****y or completely devoid of any personality beyond Unworthy Bimbo Who Married Alistair?

Lol, that is so lame and ridiculous. I can't even begin to imagine. I never did like soap operas or romance novels and from what I hear so much of DA fic is exactly that.

So far I remember she was more so the shy, nice type. So yeees.  Oh... it's not nice to rant over other people's FF, but somehow it helps to stay focused with my own one. Oh and Yuki not all DA-fics are bad, in fact some are really, really good. <3

Rylock really, really is not worthy of walking beside the 'stair.  Not Vanillastair, and certainly not Maricstair.  And they never even explain why she's with him.

*mumbles*  I wrote a little one about my Mahariel PC.  Some backstory for her.  But I can't post it for 2 days because I didn't have a ff.net account.

Yes, I know I'm a hypocrite because I rant about fanfiction and now I've written one.  *sigh*  You people are corrupting me.

Don't laugh please.

She starts out being a generic Bimbo Bannorn, completely devoid of any personality beyond being married to Alistair. And turns into the Bîtch Queen before she's killed. :o

Best of both worlds, I'd say. :P

Edit: She's actually stupid enough to believe her husband is going to love her and be faithful, which he doesn't, of course, he's boinking Lady Cousland right under her nose. Her hobby is knitting baby clothes.

I'm sorry, because I did laugh.

Alistair is totally the sort of guy to marry someone and let her believe it's for love and then continue carrying on with someone else. Why would anyone like that Alistair much less want to write 300,000 words about him?

*whspers*  Put it in the Community Creations forum....I want to read it!

So many things I want to read, but can't because long stuff is time-consuming, and the people I've already started reading are too prolific!  But a short bit, I would definitely read right now.

@klara: Really? I don't even... :blink:

Reminds me to let Lenya finally awake her next snark buddy (Shale). BR is waiting, so I shall return to write it instead only to talk about it. Sorry for the FF-ramble but since I don't play the game atm and only write is it a tempting topic...

FF.net is pissing me off again btw, I now am missing traffic for ten whole days and I'm still counting

I know! It was bad enough when last month it was down for five days but since the dragon age fandom isn't as big as some of my other ones and thus less revews when I can't see that peole are at least reading a story I tend to lose the will to update... Posted Image

I especially have that when reading a Dalish fic...it drives me nuts when the author is making a Mahariel best friends with all her companions immediately after meeting and is uber-friendly to every stranger she sees. It just feels...artifictional to me. Then again I'm a sucker for slow friendship/reletionship building so this more a general thing and not restricted to Dalish ficlets, I guess. Though it especially strikes me odd with the general distrusting Dalish PC.

Yeah, it's really hard for me to read DN fics because they are so at odds with how I RP the character. All they ever wanted to do was kill darkspawn and so even though their beloved younger brother's betrayal hurt them deeply they are glad to get away from icky politics and join the GW. They may or may not have been in love with Gorim and are so very hurt and upset when he doesn't wait for them so they must go immediately find comfort in the arms of their trusty fellow Warden who does not even remotely resemble their little brother and they they go off making Alistair king but refuse to be mistress (I would probably have to stop reading if they did because what self-respecting princess WOULD go that route?) and pine away for him forever and never, ever return to Orzammar beyond Deep Roads expeditions. Every. Single. Time.  Oh, and there may be a magical half-dwarf baby out of the union. Posted Image

I don't know why I hate Alistair/Aeducan so much. I like Alistair/Cousland and despite hating the ending for the Surana, Amell, Mahariel, Tabris, and Brosca romances they do have their good points but the Aeducan romance is like kryptonite to me...and to make matters worse I found a really good story about moments that aren't in the game that has that pairing but I have to keep reading it because they include so many little details that probably would't have occured to me but makes sense like the DN not being sure whether it's okay to trample the grass by walking on it, Ostagar not having any dwarf-size armor since she's the only dwarf there, Alistair asking Morrigan to preserve the rose...

I actually managed to not meet Gorim again til the landsmeet. After she was already involved with Alistair. What surprised me was how well that worked for ending her relationship with Alistair afterwards. I couldn't see a princess of orzamar being chacnellor to a human king, and i couldn't see her being anything but graceful letting him go. Though...thats the last time dammit, the next time it better be for keeps. She's sacrificed enough, Zev better watch out.

Alistair and Aeducan works, so nurrr. *cuddles them both protectively*

There's not "set" way to RP an Aeducan. I know that your personal canon can greatly affect how you deal with other people's vision so to speak, but it's their sandbox. The way I am approaching it in fanfic is that love is unexplainable and even if you know that it's going to end badly and/or it doesn't work all the time, you do it anyway because you just can't bring yourself *not* to. And even if it ends up to be a doofus with fussy hair and/or a cheese obsession who says really, really stupid things at the wrong time, well. Nobody's perfect.

Also my first Aeducan (and the one who is my canon Aeducan!) didn't romance Gorim!

I agree. I think this works in general though, for all origins. I was never a fan of the "They are x, so they must be y" mentality. All sorts of people come from all sorts of places and though they are influenced by their background it doesn't really dictate their personality, I think.

Oh I feel your pain, Sarah.

It's like having a Dalish in a story who is knowing everything about human culture, it's not that she/he has to ask "What is a templar" 'Why do you lock up the mages in a tower' for example...because she/he already knows it. Glad that Mahariels clan apparently also taught the Dalish PC about everything else in Ferelden. How very convenient. W00t. >.>

Seriously FF's are a world on its own and I will always fail to understand most of it.

As for the HNF/Alistair romance it can work out...at least I've played her as a 'Meeh **** you Orzammar, I go wardening with (unhardened) Alistair'- type. My Lady Aeducan simply had enough of all the ****. Though I must say that the romance felt more natural with an elf or human. Sigh.

I dunno...I guess my biggest pet peeve with fanfics is OOCness (Of any type) It takes me forever to do one because I am afraid I will slip into marysueish OOCness.

I know a lot of yall like AMWT but I really got bored about chapter 16 with it because its not finished and I was having a hard time relating to the Alistair in it. I liked Lady D's Second Chance story a lot better.

I'm not saying that there is or should be a set way, just that the thought of Alistair/Aeducan makes my head explode. We all have DA pet peeves, right? That's just mine.

Then again, I do dislike ~delicate flower with innocent shining eyes~ Aeducans... If you want to write/draw/play that it's your prerogative though, it doesn't bother me xD

No new Alistair pics, have a barefoot Aeducan beating a genlock with her shield
