If someone is tainted and survives they ALWAYS become a ghoul? Or can you get a blight sickness/exposure and just recover? What did they do to those who got sick in the Alienage? Did they kill them?
In this instance is the taint always ghoul-time or fatal? no middle ground?

According to Duncan, there is no recovery. He tells you in the Dalish origin that he's remarkably surprised that you're even alive, and that Tamlen has absolutely no chance having been tainted for three days.
Also, in the DA Tome of Knowledge, Duncan's excerpt mentions him slaughtering an entire town because they were tainted. I think that those who are tainted either die, or they become ghouls.
ETA: Even when the Dalish PC recovers from the blight sickness, Duncan tells you that it is still in your blood and that you are stil sick. That is why going through the Joining and obtaining immunity from the taint is the only way you will ultimately survive, or else you will become sick and spread the taint to your clan.

I know what you mean. It's just for information purposes. I think the player died in climax (makes me think he died a little death *cough*) part about the companions is very interesting, especially the ones for not warm.
Particularly where Leliana kills herself if you sacrifice yourself.

I think that's how it works, syl, as far as becoming tainted. And which elves? The ones the Tevinters were "helping"? I think whatever they had was a fabricated plague designed solely to cover up the slave trade.
Spoilers b/c I know you're reading it: In The Calling, Maric wonders if Rowan caught the blight sickness while in the Deep Roads and that's what caused her to waste away and die.

I'm sorry, because I did laugh.
Alistair is totally the sort of guy to marry someone and let her believe it's for love and then continue carrying on with someone else. Why would anyone like that Alistair much less want to write 300,000 words about him?
I don't agree with that at all, sorry. I think that's completely contrary to his character.

Yeah, basically they seem to have 'PC stays with Wardens' 'PC dies' 'PC stays in Denerim' and 'PC goes travelling' options. None of my PCs ever decided to go travelling and the ones that returned to their clan, went back to the Circle, returned to Highever, or returned to Orzammar didn't appreciate hearing that they apparently got lost on the way there.klarabella wrote...

Thanks for posting that. I tend to refuse to believe anything the epilogue says about the PC, though, because the PC could choose to do so many things and there are so few epilogue slides to take those choices into account.klarabella wrote...
Just wanted to throw in a link for the writers here. It's the ruler, romance and companion (excluding Morrigan) epilogue slides:

I copied them from the toolset the other day. Hope the pdf is readable.

They can recover. They won't become GW nor Ghoul in that case. But most die, some become ghouls and even less survive.

No. We're talking about the concentration of the taint, and in a short span of time, and not just the quantity of blood. The reason Archdemon blood is used is because it's the easiest way to get the concentration required, but it's not the *only* way. Regardless, just drinking the blood of a normal, run-of-the-mill darkspawn isn't usually going to cut it -- that's why magical means are usually required.Baher of Glory wrote...
An entire canteen or - perhaps more medieval - an entire pumpkin calabash is certainly A LOT, right?
Note that simply recovering from the taint (which is possible -- Dog did it, after all -- though it's rare) is not enough. You must have both the quick concentration of the taint AND the recovery. I use the word "recovery" loosely, however. As the poster above me mentions, even Grey Wardens don't become immune to the taint. They still suffer from it in the long run.

I agree that the templars would hunt Dalish mages, too, but I missed what prompted this discussion?tmp7704 wrote...
Well, in two game installments we have the Dalish keeper (Zathrian) who creates the werewolf curse (which would end up much more widespread if it wasn't for Lady of the Forest herself) and the apprenrice of the keeper (Velanna) who do goes of on human killing rampage, to the point where she nearly completely cuts off large human area from trade. This is pretty high percentage of known Dalish mages that do cause humans considerable issues, one way or another.Sarah1281 wrote...
The Dalish, by and large, want nothing to do with humans and stay away from them. Sure there are mages like Velanna who go rogue but that's no different than, say, Jowan running from the Circle. Whilel the mages stay with the Clan (or even freaking lead it as the Keeper) they aren't off violently killing humans.
And yes, this is no different from Jowan and such (well Jowan wasn't actively trying to hurt people but let's say he's just as bad for the sake of simpler argument) But this very fact --that they're no different-- is why they are hunted exactly like Jowan and other runaway mages. Because the trouble they can potentially cause are just too big to ignore.
edit: to maybe put it differently, to the Chantry a mage is a mage and it doesn't matter what shape their ears are. Because the ear shape doesn't matter any to the magic itself and by extension, to the demons from Fade who are drawn by it.
