Sparing the Anvil is a completely viable "whatever it takes" choice.  It makes a lot more sense than killing the Dalish or spoiling the ashes, which are just prat things to do.

Are you calling Alistair a prat?  In the Alistair thread?!  On Ritual Dismemberment Tuesday?!?!

That's blasphemous!

And then the King wanted to turn everybody into golems to fight the darkspawn. I could see that if it were in the right hands (aka, NOT BRANKA) then I could see it being a good weapon against the darkspawn. But you know Branka wouldn't be satisfied with just the volunteers, so who would be the first to fall? The casteless? Maybe the merchent caste? They don't matter, as long as the dwarves have the nobles and warriors.

That is my problem. I don't know any dwarves who would use it responsibly.

So the dwarves die one way or another.  At least they die fighting, and potentially winning if they can gain an upper hand, and saving the rest of the world in the process.

I'm just playing Branka's advocate here.  I've only spared the Anvil once, on my HNM character, and I hated the epilogue so I probably wouldn't do it again.  Bhelen does force people to become golems.

I will admit to thinking that DC's Alistair is a prat.

I totally am. I don't actually feel anger or anything towards her, I just refuse to believe she is a poor mother who was tricked by the ebul Loghain and apostate and that none of it is her fault. Besides Branka, nothing in this game has really angered me. But Branka....I'll personally punch somebody in the face if they say she has any sort of good point.:pinched:

Branka has a good point.  *ducks*

She does, though.  The world would have ended had it not been for the Anvil.  That was how they defeated the first Blight, which probably was before there were any Grey Wardens and before people realized the archdemon was resurrecting itself again and again.  Without the golems, Thedas would have been toast.  Now they are facing another Blight and Ferelden is without Grey Wardens.  Sparing the Anvil is a completely viable "whatever it takes" choice.  It makes a lot more sense than killing the Dalish or spoiling the ashes, which are just prat things to do.

I never said Isolde was without blame, though.

Hate to say it, but yes, Branka has a good point. But I still kill her because she is crazy evil. I also love saying to Morrigan that I'll turn her into a golem - I actually think you should get approval from her if you do that, she backflips pretty darn quick as soon as she realises it could be her on the chopping block. (BTW, I really like Morrigan, we're always best buds by the end of my playthroughs).

Its moot anyway - they end up making a new golem without the anvil - the bag of nasties has been opened again. Still, it would make more sense to have the golems for the final battle.

BTW if you side with Branka do you get golems AND dwarves? It's not an either/or thing like with the Dalish is it?

What is blasphemous is to suggest that the impostor in that DLC has anything to do with His Majesty.

We pardon you, this time.

Her good point is that the anvil is the best chance for the dwarves to actually becoming able to fight an offensive war. Yes, Bhelen reclaims a few Thaigs, but the Deep Roads are all over Thedas, and they're fighting an enemy that corrupts all food and doesn't need to eat. Having soldiers that neither eat, sleep nor can be corrupted and is about as strong as 10 dwarves is a huge advantage.

Remember that Bhelen also reclaims the Thaigs as the near vicinity of Orzammar has been drained of darkspawn by them going to the surface.

See my previous post.

So, Branka becoming bonkers makes all of that faulty?

Her reasoning is that it is a good weapon, which I agree with. I do not agree with her being the best one to use it.

Edit: Not only a good weapon, I see it as necessary. But then again, I see the dwarven situation as worse than most do.

Good point about it being moot.  If you spare the Anvil (you can spare Branka and still make her destroy the Anvil, BTW- she then kills herself), you only get golems.  They're pretty tough, though.

It's not a competition.  I Posted Image Zevran mightily and also Posted Image Team Zevran, who provided us with the Alicorn, ZDF and various other morsels of goodness.

Who would use it? Bhelen would turn Orzammar into a bloodbath, Harrowmont would steal humans from the surface, potentially starting a war with the humans. If you keep the Anvil, the dwarves will die from the lack of control over it. They'll be golems, but they won't be dwarves. If there were one person, even if it were that one person who could control the Anvil and could tell Bhelen and Branka to f off when they said they wanted to sacrifice more people, then I could understand. I would even support it.

Besides, what happened with Cairidin? They wanted to turn everybody and their mother into golems and they killed Caridin because he would let them. And hey, if Bhelen or Harrowmont would just stick to volunteers, I'd be all for it, but they won't.

Yes, you do get them. There is no reason for them not to appear.
In addition, the cutscene about the army you assembled shows Dwarves marching.

From dragon age wikia:
"
[*]Caridin - Caridin will commit suicide, Branka will die, a King will be crowned, and dwarven warriors will join the fight against the Blight. You will get Liberator achievement.
[*]Branka - Caridin will be killed, Branka will live, a King will be crowned, dwarven warriors and golems will join the fight against the Blight. You will get Pragmatist achievement. "
