Does Alistair actually say anything about feeling bad for refusing the ritual?
The dialog (almost word for word) is in my FF here, Cmessaz. He says something like "Be careful in there" and PC can respond "We both know how this ends" then he will say "I know, I will never forget you and I will make sure no one else does too."

You can talk him into it even without persuasion check. That discussion is bit like the Landsmeet where your choices increase or decrease a hidden score which (if high enough in the end) makes him accept the deal or refuse it.Miri1984 wrote...
I just played through with an unhardened Alistair (so as not to get the disapproval when I told him I was supporting Anora) and tried to convince him to do the ritual without the persuasion check and he flat out refused. Does this happen with him if he's unhardened no matter what the dialogue options? Or is there an option that will work for him?
I've basically dangled the prospect in front of him then rushed him so he wouldn't have time to get cold feet -- started with 'i may have way to avoid dying' then when he asked told him it's some old magic, probably Flemeth's. Then just hit him with "we don't have time for this, just agree" and boom, one semi-convinced Alistair. If you start getting into details like children or whatever that all counts against you because it piles on his doubts it's a good idea.
This is true - if you bring up the fact that it will produce a bastard child, it is MUCH harder to convince not-in-love Alistair than it is if you just go with "you have to do the nasty with Morrigan".

I did like the line where he says "Just because I have the proper... bits..." though. Very cute.
I'm pretty sure his affection rating matters more than hardened/unhardened. If you are in the friend zone, he will only agree if you use the persuade option (If you loved me, etc.). If he is in love/still in love (probably needs to be at 100) he will agree no matter what, unless you yourself say "No, I can't do this".
No, he'll reject the proposal even if he is in love if you choose the right (or wrong, in this case?) options.

He didn't refuse it, I just chose "You're right I cna't make you do this" And OMG poor boy is SO relieved when you tell him that too!

Yep, he'll do it with "you know I love you right?"
Ahh I never use that one. I use you know I love you, tell him everything, then "do you really want to risk dying tomorrow?"

I always tell him 'You know I love you, right?' (well, when I'm romancing him) and I don't feel bad about that. But I never tell him 'if you loved me you'd do it'. Ugh. Cannot do that. I for with 'Trust me' persuade option.

Are you sure? This is how I figured out my "still in love" flag was bugged on my PS3 version - Alistair refused the ritual. When the flag was properly in place, I used none of the persuade options and he agreed to do the ritual "if it might save you or Riordan".
The other ladies I was talking with at the time were shocked that he flat out refused when he was supposed to be "still in love".

He was in love with Brand when I just got him to reject her. If you don't soften it, if you tell him that Morrigan wants an Old God Baby and if you don't persuade, he can refuse.

Oh, I've tried it multiple times, I always have to tell him the absolute truth (as far as I or my PC knows). Unless I pick the "You know I love you" option at the beginning he refuses when I'm honest. I am guessing I lose more points than I get in that conversation or something.

That might be the difference, I think I always go with the "You know I love you" to start things off, and then nothing afterwards seems to matter all that much. The other options make sense to get refusal, since you're kind of negating the "still in love" flag by not telling him you still love him too, I guess.

Hey so cmes, I made another PC through the toolset last night. I was impressed cause I didn't have to ask for help until I um. Well I went to save it just like the first 1, did everything you told me to, even got it into the chargenmorph thing, put it in with my female's n went to load it n my game kept on crashing to the desktop on me. I thought maybe it was a mod I had installed or something new I had added.

This is what I do, except that I choose 'I'd do it myself if I could' instead of the last. I always avoid the 'persude' choices, or the emotional blackmail of 'you'd do it if you loved me. Neither seem to be necessary and feel icky.Lady Jess wrote...

Yeah, I always start with the "you know I love you line" but I was checking out the other dialogue options and had it refused every time I didn't choose that and went the honest route.

It worked after I figured out the HM/HF thing lol, in fact I made a new PC with her even though I had to do some touch-ups in the CC.
Edit: Top of page, sorry I don't have any new Alistair pics yet.
