Wow, that thing is huge! We really don't have anything like that off our coast. Jellyfish and seaweed are about our only excitments. And I was out on a board with a guy once (trying to learn to surf... FAIL) when a whale surfaced not too far from where we were. That was pretty amazing.
Our biggest problem in the waters now is pollution! You just know not to go in the water after it rains. But since I was born in Huntington Beach, I think I learned to walk and swim about the same time. I was an overimaginative kid, but I really thought that maybe one day, if I stayed in the ocean long enough, I would turn into a mermaid. But darn it, all hopes were dashed when I turned 8 and realized if there was not a Santa, there probably weren't mermaids, either!!
