I posted something about this yesterday, but basically I see it as a completely visceral, emotional wig-out and thus he's not really thinking clearly. Wait, I'll go dig out what I said, even though it's obnoxious to quote thyself.cmessaz wrote...
I can almost understand why people get a little annoyed with Alistair now. I understand that he is upset about Isolde/Connor, but in this case the circle was anulled so one had to die. So I choose HIS suggestion and he reams my ass about it. Sort of ticked me off.
I still love him though!Oh? Well that's something. Alistair does talk about "slaying a child," he really should back off. Though I actually don't mind how it goes, since he does back off with the Persuade check. Sometimes you wig out for reasons you don't fully understand yourself. I was thinking about his situation after Ostagar. He literally has no place in the world. He can't even be who he is publicly, he has no home base, no family, and no order to belong to any longer. It must be so hard for him to go to Redcliffe, which is what he does call home when pressed to it, and see it devastated.
I'm reminded of Jon Snow from the Song of Ice and Fire novels, if anyone's familiar. Jon is a bastard who is more protective of his "trueborn" brothers and sisters than they are of each other, even though the lady of the house is horrible to him. I was wondering if Alistair felt a bit like that towards Connor. He can experience Eamon's love of a son vicariously and tries to protect their family bonds because it's what he would want, if someone would have offered it to him. Now I'm tearing up and I really should be working.Edit: I picture a co-worker asking "oh, why are you crying?" and I answer "well there's this video game character..." Co-worker backs away, slowly.
You mean a lot of people just see it as him being pissy? Well I have to say, thinking of Jon Snow (my favorite character from that series) really brought it together in my mind.

I think the biggest problem is that he says 'I wouldn't normally condone killing a child but...' and implies that he thinks it's the most sensible course to take. He might not like it at all but he doesn't feel blood magic should ever be an option and the Circle is really risky. Then if you end up agreeing with him and taking his advice fo the same reasons he gives it he makes you out to be some sort of monster. You mean a lot of people just see it as him being pissy? Awesome tmp is working on the dwarf models now the same way he did with the human and elf bodies and has shared his progress here: http://social.biowar...005/250#2749269
GO LOOK AT IT AND GIVE FEEDBACK. Some of you can't get your dwarves out of Lothering because the arms bother you. Would this address your issues nicely?

I guess that is what sort of got me, the whole "I can't believe you killed a little boy" thing, not to mention I had Isolde do it. Then he said something basically implying that she only did it because of me, and that is not the impression I got.Sarah1281 wrote...

But that's my point, I think it's supposed to be an irrational reaction and an over-reaction. So I get why people are angry about it, but it's one of those times when I'm glad the writers took risks with the NPCs. You might not like them at certain points, but it's true to their character and works out to a better story.Sarah1281 wrote...

So he's mad about the unfairness of the entire situation and how Connor can't be held fully responsible for the events leading up to his/his mother's death and he wanted you to be able to find that miracle happy ending even though it was a huge risk?Addai67 wrote...

Aye, I have a ton of dwarves and one human character and two elves. Even though I don't play humans, I benefit immensely from tmp's human mod because Leliana has never looked better. I want her in my party all the time now -- LELIANA SING A SONG FOR MEEE!AnniLau wrote...

yes. I love that he has a few flaws in his character. Makes him much more "human" to me instead of just agreeing with everything I do like an automaton.

*nods* Again, irrational. It's a very visceral reaction, as I see it. I suppose it would have been better constructed if he would have put up more of a fight before the deed, though maybe the full impact didn't hit him until later on when he thought "Eamon's going to wake up and see me, and think I killed his son." And he panics. That's how I interpret it.cmessaz wrote...

I think this is a writer's fail for me, I had annuled the circle and without metagaming I had no way of knowing what was going to happen in Redcliffe. There should be a little more there for that. This time through he did not disapprove of wiping out the mages, so he KNOWS that either Isolde or Connor has to die. I suck at expressing myself, I hope you get what I am trying to say.Axekix wrote...

I have a really hard time playing elves because I can't make their faces stop looking pinchy (especially on the console where there is less ability to customize and no mods) and the humans share the elf problem of being too stick-like. It's like they'll fall over with a strong breeze.
Well, I've never thought my elves' faces looked 'pinchy,' even with just the standard CC options, but I do like tmp's mod to give them a little booty...they're pretty scrawny otherwise.

The elven faces do have a tendency to be pixie-like or pinchy, as you say. One of the reasons I picked my current PC's preset is it was the only one with a broader, longer face. Tmp's mods help with the scrawniness factor by giving them fuller hips and stronger arms.Sarah1281 wrote...

In order to do that, I would have to reduce myself to playing a sub-human character. You know, one with that broken y chromosone thingy.
So I stand by my earlier sentiments.

This.
I agree that it's very irrational. I see it as him really really wanting there to be some other way, some other path that could've been correct. Once it's all over and he has time to think of it he feels awfully guilty, he's mad both at himself and in general that there wasn't some other way out. Since the PC is the leader, he directs the anger at her. Yes, it's like a child getting angry at a parent for something unfair, but I like it -- it's human nature and makes him more like a real person to me.

The snuggle factor, I think. It's the only reason I've come up with. He has to pull her up to him a little. (Edit: Or lean down. And also because he's so much bulkier than she is so it's like a bearhug. Gots to love bearhugs.)cmessaz wrote...
