*sigh* This game I'm playing started out fantastic and then floundered midway. Now I'm stuck playing heroes I hope lose because they're that annoying and uncharismatic.

Heroes of Might and Magic V it's an older game.  The heroes at the begining are hilarious and interesting.  Now I'm stuck playing some wannabe Prince of Persia mage (turbin and all) riding an elephant.  If that doesn't scream douchebag I don't know what does.

Ugh, the Fraps video problem is driving me crazy.  It appears to stop and start on its own without any help from me.  Especially frustrating since I paid for the full version.

Eh, I like that game. But yes, Zehir and the Academy faction is just boring (despite their really cool Arabian / Islamic motiff in their cities and names).
My favorite character was Markal, the Necromancer. Nicolai as undead is very meeh.

Keep in mind that this is an RTS and not an RPG, so yes characters are mostly meeh. Although Starcraft and Warcraft had some brilliant characters.

So, for the experts here, I'm having a strange problem with Fraps video.  On that swooping kiss, I start the video capture and end it as I normally would.  However, when I go to shut down, I get an error message which I think means it's still recording, and when I look at the video it starts at the fade-to-black rather than the actual beginning of the conversation.  It did it before and I finally got it to work after 6 or 7 tries.  Now I want to re-do the video in a more scenic place, without the dog barking, but I'm having the same problem and it's making me tear my hair out.  Any ideas?  I've tried closing and re-opening Fraps, changing the key etc.

No, virtually nil CPU usage.  It's like it's set on a one-minute delay.  I push the capture hotkey, but it doesn't start recording til one minute later.  Then I push the capture key to stop recording, and if I don't wait a while to log off, it's still running when I do.

I don't know enough about it. Searching, it looks like they used to have a problem with delay between the keyboard and the video starting, but that was several versions ago, so that shouldn't be the problem. I do see where it says if it's over 3.9 GB, it'll break it into 2 videos, but that shouldn't be the problem either. I just don't know enough about it.

I can tell you that I have my video capture settings on 30 fps at Full size, have checked 'record sound' and chosen 'detect best sound input', and checked "hide mouse".

Does it happen no matter what key you map it to? I set fraps to use just Delete key, it's simple enough and seems to work... though obviously, not very good idea to have it running while doing anything but playing a game.

If i recall right it's mapped to one of the F-keys by default and some keyboards (or their software) like to do funny things to the F-keys, or switch their function depending if another key is toggled on, stuff like that. Maybe that's what is causing the issues

I couldn't bring myself to do anything romantic, so I just commissioned a simpler full-body portait of my character.

Maybe this is dumb, but have you tried a restart?  Fixes all sorts of problems usually...maybe your RAM is filling up, causing the computer to run slow?

Those are my settings, as well.  It does seem like it's a delay with the keyboard, but on an experiment I tried re-doing that swooping kiss video and hit the capture key, waited a while, then started the dialogue with Alistair.  It started recording at exactly the same spot, during the fade-out before the PC's stumble.  But the same delay happens with other scenes, too.

Yes, I did.  I know that fixes a lot of ills, and I was thinking maybe Fraps needed a good kick in the pants.  It didn't help.
