Bananas being able to be peeled AND even fitting in hands and ...elsewhere...

I see this a little differently. Parents are ultimately in control of a child's formation. The rights of a family are more sacred than that of a state, within limits (I'm a bit of a libertarian). And both sides are mired in narrow dogmas, whether they acknowledge it or not. I would actually prefer a classical education where students have a firm grasp of the philosophical basis for science, in addition to the systems and ways of thinking of modern science. That philosophical basis includes religious ideas, however, not just rationalistic ones, and if you politicize the educational institutions so much that it becomes impossible to talk about them without lawsuits cropping up, our civilization is headed for dark days. Thankfully I think postmodernism has loosened things up a bit even among the science eggheads.Xandurpein wrote...
That's pretty much it. It's up to everybody to decide for themselves what they believe, but I personally feel that the day government allows parents to control what their kids learn in school, that is a very sad day. School should be a place where kids learn science, not have their mind closed by narrow dogmas. But I guess I'm derailing the thread. Please go back to posting all those snapshots of hunky al instead.

Oh I agree, the ID people are as caught up in modernism as the rationalists. They're both fighting over the same patch of ground without realizing the playing field is larger and more important. And both have become so political that their integrity has gone out the window. That hurts everyone.yukidama wrote...

The problem is that modern science has become so political that it has overstepped itself. If people remembered that it was all based on natural philosophy, there wouldn't be these silly debates. Well, there would still be debates because that is the nature of intellectual inquiry, but they wouldn't be so fruitless. As it is, the "science only" crowd postures and the "intelligent design" crowd reacts and no one gets anywhere because they're trying to win stupid legal battles for control of institutions.yukidama wrote...
Many Americans, such as myself, would agree with you.
Then again I went to a very liberal school where someone actually cried during a faux debate where they were forced to argue for "intelligent" design.
I'm biased because history of science is one of my hobby interests, though. I like all the metaphysical stuff in between the hard science. These work profitably together or else we wouldn't have made the advances we have.
I actually agree with you, especially after reading about the history of psychiatry and medicine I see things a bit differently than I used to. I just don't agree with the intelligent design idea, nor believe it should be taught in a science class. In my high school we were taught about both but while both were addressed in our philosophy and literature classes, only one was addressed in the science classrooms. I just want more than "a banana fits perfectly in our hands and is able to be peeled, that is evidence of intelligent design."

@LadyD: Do you happen to have some free FF-writing time coming up? I'd kind of like to pick your creative brain about something. :>

In my sophomore year of high school two of my friends and I were forced to argue against gay marriage and we were big supporters so we basically just said 'yeah, the bible said it's evil' and we won. It was pathetic.yukidama wrote...

They're not twins, her sister is like a year or two younger than her. But I guess you haven't watched the Disney Channel within the last 5 years or so. There are kids in my house so I am unfortunately subjected to all the teen bimbos they create.
Hahaha, yeah, that's the way it tends to work out. They're on my sh!tlist after this interview of theirs where they were trashing evolution because (direct quote) "Evolution is silly. Monkeys? Um, no."
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but come on...
This NOT a silly attempt by a European to bash USA, as there are so many admirable things about the U.S. but personally I think that the way schools in many places in USA no longer teach evolution as the only theory with a scientific backing is deplorable.

Hi Merilsell, thanks. It took a lot of fiddling to get them how I wanted. Grrr that you can't control your followers once you get into Redcliffe castle, to do armor and weapon changes. It meant I had to fight that stupid ogre alpha about five times. But I just love that there's something more than just Alistair walking off at the gates. That always felt odd.Merilsell wrote...

I come bearing Alistair-elf kisses. Gate kisses, to be precise. Without the clipping from his pauldrons (if he's wearing massive armor), they are super squee.
Happy gates kiss #1- I love you
Happy gates kiss #2- No goodbyes
Sad gates kiss- I'll never forget you
I think the "no goodbyes" one is my favorite. On the sad kiss, the look in Alistair's eyes during the kiss just kills me.
D'aaaaw I wanted to see them ...since...forever. So Addai, I love you for those vid's <3
Hey I wrote up another bit for my Mahariel character. I'm reading yours, too, in chunks. Hurrah for the Dalish.

You've never done this before?? I always look forward to that, weirdly enough. Though the first time it happened, I just stood there not willing to fight at first. Until he took down half my health with one blow.

Yes, there was. <_< I've never used ffnet before, so I'm stumbling around a bit.LadyDamodred wrote...
Quick review for ya. I really it so far. Though I must ask, was there supposed to be a line break between past/present events? ff.net sucks if you use *** for breaks b/c it doesn't recognize them.

Heh, I have this pleasure with my console version. Sigh. But oh well, there is always my imagination recreating this scene or to extend it. Pity I can't ram mods into the xbox, lol. So all the more thx for the vids, I really appreciate your effort <3Addai67 wrote...

I used to do a line with "- -" centered to show breaks but recently that has completely vanished and now I'm getting all these reviews saying 'why don't you have story breaks? It's confusing.' Stupid ff.net.Addai67 wrote...

If it's such a common problem then people should realize what's going on.Sarah1281 wrote...

Oh, right. Yes all good points, and I recognized the problem with perspective changes. If I was going to do it right, I would probably write the scene first from my PC's perspective, then switch to Alistair. I was trying to be economical, I suppose.LadyDamodred wrote...
Yeah, I didn't realize it til I saw someone else mention it. I felt like such a twit. There's --- button that you can use to insert a line to show breaks.
Edit: Also, the longer review is not me. They do make good points, though. But since I know you here, I would probably send those along through PM.

why do people always moan about the line breaks with ff.net? I just write the story and use three asterixes, then manually put the breaks in myself with the editor. Gives you a chance to flick through the story again and check for any errors too.
