Laissez faire and do unto others covers a lot of ills. The funny thing is that the people who say they just want equal rights are just as keen as everyone else to force their views on other people. This is not something that can ever be decided in the public sphere in a pluralistic country, and it shouldn't be. When we had a large social consensus, family law made some sense, but now that our society is fragmented, it will always be ****** for tat jockeying for legal control. Someone's rights will always be infringed. The state should just mind its own business completely.

Gay marriage isn't allowed in Australia either which is ridiculous IMO. Who does it hurt? No one at all! So why prevent it? Makes my mind boggle.
You have no idea how infuriating it is as a history major to try and explain to people that, yes, the Founding Fathers knew damn well what they were doing. No, the country is not based on the 10 Commandments. No, they weren't hard core christians, they were deists for the most part. Etc...
I've been reading Sarah Vowell lately - so I'm just starting to realise that. I suspect most Australians think America was founded by puritans. I was pleasantly surprised by how much character the founding fathers had actually. Maybe it's just the way Sarah Vowell writes them though

I just don't agree with the intelligent design idea, nor believe it should be taught in a science class.
Nor should it be dismissed as false, as science cannot prove or disprove it. No real scientist today would go and say it's fact intelligent design never happened. There are theories on the issue and they remain theories, not fact. So science classes should not have to deal with this at all as it's beyond its scope.
I am a strong believer in intelligent design, but I do not expect a science class to prove it (nor disprove it). This remains in the field of metaphysics. And quite frankly, I don't really understand the science / religion supposed divide that many claim exists. I am proud to say that I belong to a civilisation that strongly embraced both a long time ago (and now we only embraced one *sigh*. Many argue that we invented modern science at it is today known. The first real scientist is Hassan Ibn Al Haytham).

The Pilgrims and Puritans (they were different) did have a fairly big influence, especially up here in New England. It's only recently that NE has become known as a wretched hive of sin and debauchery. For a long time it was incredibly straight-laced and proper.
But the Founding Fathers were very intelligent. They knew what they were doing and it makes me want to cry to see how wrongly most people see them.

I've been married for 17 years, And I'm proud of it. I certainly don't see it as the state recognizing it or not. It was me, and the man I love swearing before our families, or pastor, and our friends, and the church to love, honor, and cherish each other for life. Having that piece of paper that says we did such, it's a promise, sworn and signed by both of us, is something I will treasure for the rest of my life, a keepsake of sorts, much like the birth certificates of my children. It makes me sad to see marriage scrutinized and poked at and prodded like a lab rat. I see all the time marriages treated like trying on a pair of shoes. At the first blister, tossed aside and trashed.
I don't care who gets the right to marry, as long as they treat it with respect when they do.

I just wish templar armor didn't look so strange on my females. I'd have to use it with mods that allow all spells to be cast with weapons though, or find a matching Staff.

Defense, treaties and infrastructure, minimally. Family law is the most invasive and therefore the state should be the absolute last resort, not the up-front arbiter.Herr Uhl wrote...

But I agree with others that religion and politics never goes down well unless there's beer involved. Alistair squee can even be contentious, let alone the dreaded R & P.
So to give people something else to fight about, here's Maricstair looking all kingly and manly and stuff.

I never can get into AW. As far as blood mage, I usually only use the blood boiling spell thingie *can't think of the name* but it is very usefull if you have a high constitution and run out of mana.Lady Jess wrote...

I was mostly agreeing with the post I quoted in that a science class should not talk about intelligent design as fact. I also said it should not dismiss it as a fallacy either.
I don't see how that would get anyone emotional, unless my belief in intelligent design is going to make people hate me. It's not my intention to offend anyone.

Ok, I just wanted to know whether you argued for the dissolving of the state. I don't know how family law works wherever you live so I don't know.
And who says that there isn't beer involved?
