Oh good, less winter forging for me...I hate that mod. I'm still not sure how to BE an AW. so basically I wear plate, and ****** things with pointy objects between spells. It has potential but to get any use out of it it's almost like you're forced to use mods to add extra skills and skill points.

I built my AW/BM's destructo-spells mostly around those that could be cast with weapon drawn.  But a mod does allow you to override that so that all spells can be cast with weapon drawn.  Mostly I stuck to being a spellcaster.  I would wield a staff, fight from range, and sometimes switch to melee when enemies got close.  My freezy mage could get her own shatters this way, casting Cone of Cold and then switching to dagger to finish them off.  She got shatters a lot, in fact, more than the others did for some reason.

I just see it as adding an extra element to both your gameplay versatility and RP-wise since you can wear armor.  It's a battlemage setup.  You get to sit around the fire grunting and polishing your weapon with Oghren, while still being a spellcaster.

Does anyone else hate those fanfics where a female Warden turns down Morrigan's ritual but survives because she's pregnant (by Alistair even though the odds of that are ridiculous and they haven't been trying) and so she has the God baby?

LOL  The idea had never occurred to me.  Your PC also knows Flemeth's blood magic ritual to appropriate the taint?  <-- highly doubtful

Yes, it's shameless promotion of a friend's fic....but it's so right.

You know, it's well-written, but I hate endings like that.  It basically invalidates Alistair's sacrifice.  Posted Image

Yeah, but that's the risk you run when you do something like sacrifice yourself when the woman who loves you is also willing to die. I'm of the mind that yeah, it's sweet that he can't see the PC he loves die, but it's also sort of selfish.

And he still saves the world. So there is that.

Not saying I disagree, but I also don't think the PC's also in the best frame of mind at the time.  Were it one of mine (I haven't been able to do this ending, just can't bring myself to do it) I could see her doing something similar precisely because no one in her party seems to care.  It would be a knee-jerk "If they won't celebrate the hero worth celebrating then maybe they shouldn't have the one they want either" sort of reaction.

I've got a Surana planned who will do this ending and will hang on long enough to get to Amaranthine.  I actually don't think I'll let her romance Alistair all the way, because I want her to be sort of with Anders - a guy who will remind her of her love for Alistair and let her move on.

I think the story does illustrate, however, what a crappy ending Warden Commander is.

It seems complex when you first dive into it but it's actually ridiculously simple.  I would pick up Moonwing's Ivory Tower plus his weapon/shield set.  You can go dw but I went s&s.  Fireball from a distance to get agro than run in and Fireball on yourself.  You should end up with 80% resistance to all magic in Moonwing's armor.  Pick things off with your weapon when they're low on life.  You should when fully buffed be doing around 70-90 a swing in white damage.

The advantage to melee as a mage is you will never get Misdirection Hex cast on you.  The AI just doesn't cast it on mages.

My fireballs always knock me over:(

I think my problem is stats and "want it all" I do dual wield, and I have the ivory tower set, but it's soooo bright and...templary, I was thinikng about winter forging a set with the same stats actually but regular massive. Anyhow, I don't really know what stats to pick, I want to basically toss fireballs and freeze/shatter while swinging a sword and dagger. And heal of course. And spells, I know to get the Mana Clash line, and the line with mind blast. I have awakening in the OC and the battlemage spec available, but I only go as far as hand of winter in that line, and I don't think I've filled the AW line.

Maybe they just don't want to dwell on it at the coronation and 'we saved Ferelden' party. How long after Alistair died is this, anyway? For all we know they've already tried to comfort the PC and are now trying to enjoy their victory and the PC is the one who is still 'Alistair's dead so I have to be miserable' even a month later. It certainly explains why Wynne briefly addresses Alistair's sacrifice and then tries to move forward. And how quickly could certain people - like Fergus or Rica - make it to Denerim, anyway?

Hear, hear.

Speaking of Anders, he's staring at my mage in this game like Nathaniel usually does.  Makes her feel like Alistair is watching over her, in that getup.

...theeen, he opens his mouth. :innocent:   This was actually a cute dialogue, though, about what Grey Wardens do when there aren't darkspawn around.  Doesn't help his manliness that he suggests he'd sit around knitting socks. LOL  He must not have liked Esra's snark back, however, since I got a -3.

I do have that mod. It drove me nuts to have to sheath to cast or carry a staff, I want decaps and shatters dangit! I also added the mod to get the dual wield talents, but only to get momentum. And a mod that gives me a bunch of skill/talent/stat books. I don't want to go crazy adding every talent, I just want her built and leveled from the start, so I can play and focus on story.

Agreed.

Which is a shame, because there was so much potential there.

The fact that Arl Eamon isn't even in court for you to talk to... gah!

I liked that fic though.

But if it's a "we saved Ferelden" party, then Alistair should have a prominent place in everyone's mind in that instance.  And if they were really your friends, they would not expect you to "move forward" one or two months after your lover died in your place.

The ending is designed for the PC who didn't care much about Alistair, saw him as an expendable Warden, and wants his/her own glory to be undiminished.

Yeah, it knocked me over too but it didn't do any real damage to me.  I just got back up and cast another.  I've never been a fan of Mana Clash.  I just used Glyph of Neutralization.  I was using the Divine Tree mod so, I took Prayer to heal myself with.

I don't know, but I would guess you would set her up with some melee tactics for close range, and then she should switch weapon sets appropriately.

My tactics for her, of course, are Self-->Any-->Sit around camp and don't open your mouth  :D

My tactics with my anti-chantry mage were: make us dinner and set up camp. But her and my noble are BFF. Well I guess that is a toss up between her and Morrigan.

Especially not when you were going to marry him and then rule Ferelden together.  Oh hey, there's Anora standing where you should be and the love of your life isn't there because he sacrificed himself to save you and everyone else and we're just going to ignore that fact and hope you've forgotten all about it!

There are a lot of reasons why I haven't managed to do this ending yet...I think if I do, I might just not talk to anyone and run out the back door to the parade.

That was my thinking when I wrote it. I was so angry at that ending (and it was the second time I'd done it; why, I have no idea) that no one seemed to care that he was dead. There's no mention of him, except for Anora's brief statement and Wynne's semi-callous mention of live heroes being better than dead ones.

I really wish that they had done an Alistair funeral for the Warden Commander ending, to get a least some sense of closure.  I think I would have accepted the ending a little better had they celebrated his sacrifice though something like that instead of almost pretending that he didn't exist.
